  1. Welcome!

First, you can't fail a sleep study. It is done to see if you have Obstructive sleep Apnea (stop breathing during sleep). If you have it, they may or may not decide to prescribe you a CPap or BiPap machine to sleep with. I've heard that most docs don't bother because supposedly the surgery will cure the apnea, ie: weight loss fixes it.

For the insurance question... I'm not sure if it is physician preference but my doc made me do the requirements and THEN he sends to insurance. Once the surgery is approved I can get a date and start to do any Pre-op testing that may be required. (chest xray, ekg, medical clearance, etc.)

Best of luck to you. :)

  2. Who is your insurance through? I had to do all my insurance requirements first then when I get preapproved I have to do the surgeons requirements;( so maybe about 4-6 weeks I'll be in surgery!

I have QualCare and I guess my situation is about the same. I started the process in May: 4 WLS education meetings (1 per month), 3 Dietician meetings(1per month), psych eval.

I already had a sleep study years ago and have a BiPap machine at home; so, at least I got to skip that. I assume these requirements were for the insurance.

Now the surgeon submits all documentation to the company for authorization. Then the other appointments are per the surgeon's office for medical clearance (re: asthma etc.) I'm probably looking at at least your 4-6 weeks. :( But then we know who we're going in with right? :)

  3. My doc submitted my paperwork today too. :) But, they told me approx 2 weeks for an approval :(. Not to mention the fact that I thought it was ...Approval, pre-op diet, surgery. Apparently, with his office it is not. It's approval, appointment to get surgery date, appointment with next doc for surgical clearance then another appt with surgeon to go over test results before surgery. I was excited, right up until i made that last phone call. :(

Oh well, I've waited this long another month won't kill me I guess.

  4. I haven't had surgery yet so I'm no expert by far. However, my surgeon wouldn't even have me eating food at 4 weeks. I'm confused. I know I've posted this before at how we all seem to be getting different information on the same procedure. But, maybe try his plan: week 1 CLEAR liquid only. week 2 FULL liquid. week 3 puree. week 4 soft foods. week 5 (if you can tolerate it) regular diet in 2oz portions 5-6 per day. Also, 80grams Protein daily with 64oz Water. Good luck to you. :)

  5. yes, you should be able to return the unopened product to the store. Any chance you still have your receipt? They'd appreciate that. It's funny because I don't find them that disagreeable. only the apple melon and passion fruit. the others I find quite tolerable (at least pre-op). Sorry you had a bad experience. I do believe that Isopure puts out an unflavored powder that you can add to just about anything. Ask your GNC rep for a good alternative. :)

  6. A friend of mine has severe bone issue and is unable to do anything high impact. WIth that said, he tends to stick with swimming pool erobics. Very low impact but still affective. Some gyms actually offer workout classes. Check it out!

It's funny that you posted this; I was thinking that after surgery (once I'm cleared) I'll join my local YMCA and do just that. I used to love to swim; it might be nice to get back to.

    Thanks for the input! :)

  7. Does anybody know what the system or browser requirements are for the chat board? I click on the tab but nothing loads- it isn't even as if I've gotten to the board and nobody's on, there's just nothing- no chat room or anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

That's what happens for me from my work computer because I cannot upgrade my brower here. from home...try to download the most recent browser and you should be able to get in. When I go in from home all I see are posts that people have made going in but they aren't really there. The counter always shows ZERO people.

  8. UPDATE:

They will allow me to get my dentures from my new dentist! They are also starting an investigation into the other dentist for charging for work they didn't do.

That's awesome!! Hopefully those people get more than a slap on the wrist. But congrats to you, sounds like you deserve something good.

  9. I think that size isn't such a great way to judge success. When I was younger I weighed between 108-125 and wore a 3/4 forever..128 and a size 7...135-145 a 9. Now I'm at around 220 and I can go between a 14 & an 18 depending on my celiac bloating. I'm 5'5" but if you look at my sizes they don't much match up with some of the above posts.

Go by how you FEEL in your clothes...in your own skin...If you want to pursue an 8, go for it! If it's meant to be, you may find that you end up in an even lower size. However, if you end up in a 10 and you look and feel great...embrace your 10. :D

You sound like you've already succeeded and your picture proves you look amazing. CONGRATULATIONS!

  10. If they take payment for something that was not done, that's insurance fraud on their end. Your insurance company can just retract payment, even after the fact. I would be sure to take it up with the insurance. And then, perhaps an attorney. By the time you're done you can get uppers & lowers FREE.

Good luck to you on this and your sleeve. Prayers ~ well wishes ~ postive vibes.

  11. I used to love math until they came out with this calories in = calories out formula. I've been telling my Doc for YEARS that it can't be true because I only eat good for you stuff (NOT in mass quantities) so why the heck do I gain every year instead of losing? Well... my "super power" must be super strong. That's why I'm sleeving... ;) BTW, Danyelle, I'd trade this for invisibility any day. :D

  12. Not so much. If you eat 1800 calories a day, every day, you should start to lose weight if you excercise and burn 500 of those calories. Same for any caloric intake... 1800-500=1300 so 800-500 = 300. BTW you have to burn 3500 calories in order to lose 1 pound.

I can go on the stationary bike and near kill myself for 45 minutes and only burn 350 calories. kind of puts things in perspective.

  13. it's actually a PFT = Pulmonary function test. They aren't bad. You breathe into a tube while the technician tells you what to do. Usually they cheer for you ... blow blow blow ...deep breath in...yelling the whole time. LOL

I do them for asthma once a year. It measures how much air you take in versus how much air you expel when you breathe out.

    non-invasive and pain free.

  14. I have a host of other health issues and years ago my gastro doc told me no straws and no gum. (I can't burp ~ strange but true). Regardless, in regard to the styrofoam and take out cups I just tear a little notch on one side of the lid and drink from that. (Looks kind of like coffee lids do when you lift the notch) This way, no straw and I can go to movies, etc. without worry of what cup I'm getting and I don't have to remove the lid to drink.

  15. I just wanted to post and say that I'm not "really gay," but my brother, my aunt and several of my very close friends are. I think it's great that everyone is here to post and support each other. I'm sorry that no one ever finished the story, I was excited to see where it went. :)

Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS to all of you! Both in WLS & family, bear, etc. stuff. :D I'll be checking back for that story...

  16. @smb: That's funny. Don't cram too much, you want to be healthy enough for the procedure. My surgeon's office told me that they don't REQUIRE pre-surgical weight loss. It's a plus but not required. According to them, once you start the liquid pre-op prep it will happen on its own. Good luck.

@Dorrie: Technically my insurance should just go right through because I work for the facility where my surgery will be done and we are "self-insured." I only need them to pay the doc. According to him they do NOT require a prescribed amount of weight to be lost ahead of time. They only care about shrinking the liver (because it's laparoscopic) and that will happen during the liquid prep.

Thank GOD because I've been trying like heck to lose forever and even since April I've only lost 3lbs. I've counted every calorie, cut out sweets entirely, I'm practicing 3meals a day (which is more than I ever eat). there is NO WAY I could figure out how to lose 24lbs. This process is a complete eye opener, that's for sure.

I am in awe of the many that seem to have gone through like a breeze.

  17. Yup just achy! I didn't have any of the pain in arms and shoulder that I was told about the gas. Yup, all is good. Just a little sore, nothing I can't handle.

Thanks so much! You give me hope :) Congrats on your surgery and Wish you a speedy recovery. I'll look forward to your future posts.
