I have been drinking only half of my Protein shakes since that's all i've been able to get down but I drink the Atkins Protein Shakes and I don't get gas from them. What kind are you drinking?
I'm drinking the Bariatric Advantage that I got from my doctors office. I haven't gotten any of these Protein drinks in since surgery. I've been eating broths and those eat smart lentil Soups cuz they have a good amount of fiber( to unconstipate you) and Protein (cuz I lack that) and its pretty easy to go down.

@duckydoom & cassiem93 I know the healing part really sucks but it really will be over sooner than you think I'm on day 7 and I feel 85% now but if you would have asked me on Fri I think I would have just cried Hang in there ladies there is light at the end of that tunnel(smile)Gives me some hope cuz right now I'm about crying saying to myself why the hell did I do this!?!?

I felt a little better this morning. I ended up sleeping in a rocking chair last night and that helped. Having a hard time using the bathroom. I feel if I could just go I would be 100 xs better. Just taking my meds and relaxing as well as getting up and walking as much as I can. My husband is worried though because i'm sleeping alot and not hungry. The pain meds will constipated you and make you so tired so that is normal. I officially haven't taken any pain meds last night and so far this morning. I finally went to the restroom after 5 days of not being able to and it brought some relief but I'm still hurting. Your on the right path

I was on the 18th! Sticking to Clear Liquids. I tried a Protein Drink and got horrible gas. What is everyone else drinking?I feel you on that one. It's hard enough being gassy already from surgery but then the Protein drink makes u even more so. My sister tried it too and she said she was burping a lot after half of it

I've found that gentle massage of my lower belly(below belly button) generally helped just some gentle pressure back and forth in addition to walking. Oddly most came up' date=' but expelling the gas was the goal no matter the direction.[/quote']
Burping for me has been super painful. I don't know about you guys but this is my 5th post op day and I still feel really sore (more so in my upper left quadrant) and when I feel the need to burp, it's so painful that I have to smack my chest several times to make the pain go away. Is that normal for any of you?

So yesterday, I woke up at 4 to be at the hospital by 6... I live far from the hospital. My nurses and anesthesiologist were great! When game time came I felt so uncomfortable with the gas mask but then I was knocked out before I had time to complain. When I woke up the nurses said my surgery went really well and that I even had a hiatal hernia that the dr repaired at the same time so I got a 2 in 1 surgery. I wasn't in a lot of pain, but deep breathing is what hurts the most right now due to the gas. I'm debating in gettin the gas x strips like I've been hearing. Do they really work wonders? This gas is killin me!!! It's there.... It wants to come out.... But it won't. Any tips? Nonetheless it was nice to have broth for the first time yesterday!!!!

I find the chocolate shakes the only kind i like thru Bariatric Advantage. Other than that I drink lots of plain Water like there is no tomorrow. I made the mistake of gettin the vanilla shakes and I hate them with the passion. I gotta plug my nose as I drink it! Blahhh. Try to keep urself busy with something else and u won't notice the hunger pains. I do get tempted with French fries and cheesecake and funnel cakes but I always gotta take a second thought and ask myself, is it really worth it???

kpizzle' date=' I am August 20 also and on day 4 of my liquid pre-op diet.[/quote']That's great! I've lost so far 9 lbs just on my liquid diet. I find myself not even hungry at all and I even have to do the cooking in the house for everyone else. Hope it's this easy after surgery too! I have to force myself to drink these Protein shakes!

I'm on my third day pre-op, and I was told I can only drink the Meal Replacements 3 times a day and Water. Is everyone's pre-op different because I see people posting they are allowed more. Nonetheless the shakes have been filling me up as long as I drink a lot of water throughout the day. Does anyone else get the gurgles in their tummy?

Bust!!! You can do this!!! Just think of everything you will be able I accomplish, how ppl won't look at you any different because of ur size... How much more confidence you will have. I'm scared too! I have the same fears as you but I have a kid to keep up with and the fact that diabetes runs in my family and I've already lost 3 family members because of that disease. I don't want to leave my kid motherless. That's my reasoning. Journal all ur struggles and go back and read ur goals and remind urself why u are doing this. Good luck bust! You can do this!!!

I'll tell you my tricks. I lost 12 pounds in 1 month the healthy way. I've actually lost a total of 19 pounds from the beginning of my journey with this lap band approval waiting and all. If you have an iPhone, there is an app called Lose It. U enter in how much weight you want to lose and it gives you a timeline as to when u are going to lose that as well as a set caloric intake to maintain each day. U log in all the food you eat and it gives you the amount of calories u are ingesting. If you do any exercise that day you log it in as well and it reimburses you some calories. It really makes you se how much you are putting in your body. My second trick was downloading another app, Couch to 5K in 8 weeks... I love this app! I have a hard time doing excersize on my own but this app has a voice that tells you when to start running, stop, and start walking. I'm no runner, trust me! But I jog walk and it makes the difference! The more you exercise the longer the pounds stay off. Eating right is also another perk to keeping down the weight. Good luck!

I'm getting my band on the 20th as well. I survived my first day of Protein Shakes but omg do I crave real food sooo bad!!! And what sucks more is that I got my letter saying I passed my NCLEX test to become a nurse and I can't really go out and Celebrate because I can't eat or drink....I can dance tho! Lol but yea... The shakes are killin me! Anyone have any tips for the vanilla flavor? How to make it more appealing?

You need to call ur dr office every week and see where they are at with all your paperwork. Hound them!! They will get sick of it and want to put u first cuz u keep buggin hahah. That's what I did

I can totally relate! I've been a chubby bunny ever since I was little, and I am sooo looking forward to becoming a thin person for the first time in my life. Just be mentally prepared for the changes that are going to happen with your body. A lap band patient was talking at a support group and she was saying she got scared when she saw this skinny person in the mirror. So she started putting the weight back in cuz that's all she ever knew. Good luck to you, and we can do this!!
