  1. Hello Christy

I'm currently going to montefiore as well not sure if my surgeon is going to be Dr Choi or vemulapalli...I'm switched from Harlem hospital to montefiore I did most of my appointments at Harlem hospital but was told I would have to redo them for montefiore because they like their own records but I will find out Thursday when I go to the seminar..I hope I don't have to redo them but if I do o well..how was the seminar when u went to it were u able to pick which Dr you wanted or was one just assigned to you?

Hope to here from you soon

Dr. VEMULAPALLI is the best bariatric surgeon at montefiore. I had gastric bypass with her on Aug.21 2012 and no complications at all. While recovering from surgery i seen alot of Dr. Choi and Dr. Camacho patients come in with lots of complications. Not to scare you but i would do research on each surgeon. My cousin also had surgey with Vemulapalli without any complicqtions after.

  2. One of the most difficult things I've had to deal with so far is losing my hair... My weight always made me really self conscious about the way I looked but my hair...is something I dedicate a lot of effort into because I feel wonderful when it's done. Now 5 months after my surgery I've lost almost all of it. It's thin and weak and comes out in huge clumps.

I could deal with the torture of not being able to eat a lot of the things I loved, I could deal with the pain I get occasionally even throwing up what my stomach rejects... I've lost 95 lbs and cant wait for what is to come...But losing my hair has me feeling terrible. I don't know how to deal with it. :(

Try taking Biotin 5000mcg once a day, i had the same problem before surgery. My hair was so thin you could see my scalp, now its getting really thick.

  3. Hi

I just noticed you said your insurance was Affinity. Is that the Affinity Eden Medical Group with United Healthcare? I am asking because that is my medical group and I would like to compare requirements:) I hope you got approved for surgery!

No, my insurance is affinity health care.

  4. My surgery is tomorrow and my insurance says that authorization is still pending. I haven't had anything solid to eat since last week. Dr. Wants me to take citroma to cleanse my bowels, does this make sense? What if I'm not approved. I think the hospital should have been sent in my forms for approval. So frustrated.

  5. I signed consent today for rny and my insurance received all my documents again. I called them and they say it will take up to 72hrs to find out if I'm approved. I have surgery date on 8/21. My doctor seems to think I will get approved I'm not so sure. Sweating bullets!!!

  7. Not starting any thing ( I don't vote for Presedent) your vote is wasted.

Vote for Your local and state reps are the ones that screw up your life.

And I Belive that if you don't have proof that you are a American citizen you should not be allowed to vote. For example we can't go to Mexico and vote or England' date=' Spain why should it be allowed here. (answer = so Politician can keep their gravy jobs) just my opinion[/quote']

    I totally agree with you.

  8. Hey there! Good luck making your decision. I recently had my band removed in an urgent surgery due to slippage of the band and herniation of my stomach. I won't say don't get a band. I will say I wish I hadn't gotten a band :/ I did get my BMI from 50 to 36 and keep it there' date=' but I've had a couple years of problems as well. I will be getting RNY sometime next year, after removing my band the surgeon discovered I had a significant amount of damage from the band that needs time to heal.

Take time to research and be comfortable with your choice, ont just rush in because you ate redy to do something now....

    Good luck!!!!.[/quote']

Wow sorry to hear you had such bad experience with the band. Lap band wasn't an option for me, I just wouldn't like something hanging around in my stomach. I wish you better luck with the rny. Thanks to all for the advice.

  9. I jumped through all the hoops that my insurance (Affinity) required, the same day that the coordinator sent in my documents I was denied. Denied because after all that I did they do not cover gastric sleeve. So now I have a choice says my surgeon either do the band or roux en y which my insurance do cover. I don’t know what to do.

  10. Okay so I got a surgery date for Aug 21 but no approval yet. Why do they do that? now I'm thinking the worst. Shouldn't they get the approval beforehand? At the pace I was going I thought that my surgery would he in Sept or Oct they suprised me. I'm just rambling.. mad nervous...

  11. Hi my name is Chris and I’m from the Bronx(NY) I will be having my surgery(hopefully) at Montefiore with Dr. Vemulapalli, so many things are running through my head and so many questions I want to ask. For all the women that can answer this; is the sleeve more painful than having a c-section?

I have had 3 c-sections and I remember that the pain from the first one was horrible but the second and third were a breeze. Lol…

    Thanks
