  1. I was sleeved on May 21st. My doctor did not require a pre-op diet so I am just starting from that point but I am down 27 pounds. However, I am not certain it is going that well. I am nauseous a lot of the time and have had almost constant bouts of diarrhea. Eating has become a drama - I am definitely not getting enough Protein but the more I drink the sicker I feel.

Anyone else have anything like this?

  2. I am only two weeks out so this is not from my own experience but I spoke to a number of sleevers and bypass friends who had the surgery years ago and this was their biggest complaint - not being able to eat as much as they used to. Even ten years out, one friend cannot get an entire appetizer down in one sitting. However, not anyone of them would go back. This is what got us in trouble before.

  3. When I had my gall bladder removed 5 years ago I remember feeling anxiety as they wheeled me into the operating room. However when I was sleeved two weeks ago they had me walk into the operating room. There were also others walking into their operating rooms. We wished each other good luck!! Once in the operating room I stepped up onto the operating table and was out within a few minutes.

I think we feel lack of control in hospitals because we are told what to do all the time. Make certain you speak to your doctor and the anesthesiologist about your fears. They may be able to make small changes that help you feel less helpless.

    Good luck.

  4. I am in my fifties. My family is very supportive because I think they were afraid I would die at 58 of a heart attack as my father did. I have been very lucky.

Don't let them wear you down. You need to do what is right for you. Some of us cannot keep the weight off without assistance.

  5. Please do not take this as any kind of criticism - I am a week post op and still trying to absorb all of the information. My doctor and the hospital gave me very specific instructions about what to eat. At six weeks I will still be on pureed foods. I will be able to eat eggs but bacon and hash browns would have to be pureed. I am not allowed any solid food for at least eight weeks.

Maybe they are overly cautious and maybe I will not stick to this. You may need to take a step back to softer food if this continues.

  6. I am a week post surgery and I had many of the same issues -

A headache for 4 days - I was a diet coke addict and kept drinking up to the day before my surgery. I think I was having a caffeine headache. I took some tylenol and bullied my way through it. By day 4 the headache was gone.

I had diarrhea for the first 5 days. The nurse at the hospital said that happens to a lot of people. If it went more than a week then make certain to call the doctor. Bowel movements are still not pre surgery but they are better.

The scaping of your throat may be correct. I have post nasal drip and everything I coughed up was bloody. It took a few days to get through that also. Give it a few more days. Bring it up with the doctor if it does not go away.

  7. The psych eval was very simple but there may be some things you want to think about before you go. Why are you doing this? For your health, to make you happy, to solve all your problems (correct answer - for your health). What are you going to do instead when you want to eat? During the psych eval, the evaluator told me she knows people who started smoking and drinking because they needed to replace eating. Not the way to go!! Do you have something to keep your hands occupied - knitting, video games, etc? How are you going to handle the urge to snack?

There are no right or wrong answers to any of these but, they got me thinking about what I was going to do.

    Good luck.

  8. Sorry if you got a partial message from me - I wanted to look up a price for you.

I have found something called WonderSlim online. 7 packets are 12.99. I have the Cran-Grape and the the berry Blend. They have been going down very well.

I have been having bouts of nausea since my surgery 6 days ago. I have found I need to sip very slowly. No more than a small sip every two minutes or so. As long as I do that I have been keeping the nausea at bay.

  9. To the Jersey City Member,

I live in Orange County New York but after research chose Dr, Edward Pucci. He has offices in Ridgewood NJ. I had my surgery at Englewood Hospital. They were wonderful, he was wonderful, his staff are wonderful. I feel lucky to have found him.

He is in a practice with his two brothers, Anthony and Richard. I have met them all and they are all very nice and helpful.

It may be worth checking them out.
