    I Feel So Hungry!

I thought we could not have corn, unless you are talking about cream of corn. If you notice that corn comes out in tact when you go to the bathroom and I heard it could clog your small opening in you band.

    I Feel So Hungry!

Hormels makes 97% fat free chill with turkey and vegstables and it tastes good. You can put cold greek vanilla yogurt on top to simulate sour cream on top. You can do the same for refried beans with rocotta cheese as well.

    I Feel So Hungry!

I start purees on Monday, Aug 20th. I just bought Hormels turkey Chili with beans 97% fat free and it has 19 proteins 1 fat, 1 sugar and I also got the Chili with veggies 97% fat free and Chili without beans which is lower in protein. I was told to try it with a little of little cold greek yogurt for that sour cream effect and it will add more protein. Or even wit ricotta heated on top. The fat free refried beans is another protein dish that you can add greek yogurt or ricotta. I looked for canned fat free soups and could not find any without pasta or potato or barley.for my stage 4 puree. So my husband and I decided to buy kidney, lentel, black beans and black eye peas and we are going to make a bean soup with carrotts, cabbage with chicken thighs no skin because chicken breast would be too dry in a soup. I will use low sodium bouiline cubes (spelling?) and chicken broth in the box and of course many non salt seasonings. I will cook it and freeze it. I bought fish in lemon sause that can be microwave in 3 minutes and it very good, which I had on my prediet. Can anyone tell me on your stage 4 with puree, can you have snacks between the 3 meals and is your protein 2oz.
  4. Not sure what your dr wants to do, but I told to do 3 protein shakes a day, with no sugar no carb, called Isopure no carb version. I also could have non fat cottage cheese (22 gr protein) and greek yogurt (17gr protein). and sugar free pudding (added protein powder to the skim milk and then added it to the pudding mix for protein extra) I only loss 5 because the nutrionist had cream soups low fat by mistake when it should of said low fat or fat free soups broth. So it brought their attention and they are going to change the brochure. I;ve loss 34 pounds since my journey on May 22nd which is 3 months on Aug 22nd.
  5. gas x, my hospital gave me warm adult wipes, a little mirror. I wore a large dress/darcheeci so there would not be any bands on my stomach. Everything I bought I did not have time to use because when you got up you only went to the bathroom and the nurse had to stay with you. They gave me lemon large qtips to wipe my mouth because of dryness. I went in to surgery 12:30 and was out the next day at 4:30pm. I would say to get the nausea patch to save yourself nausea that worked out so well and one of the nurses gave me that tip and she said if they ask you if you ever experience motion sickness say yes and they will give you the patch. I did need nausea meds, on my first walk, but I think the nurse was walking me too fast and again when I got my upper GI the next day and the barium drink made me feel nausious. a wash cloth to put on the end of the band they have you put on your stomach because the velco gets stuck and is hard to separate from the stomach band. Because the stomach band is layed under when you are in laying down, and at the hospital they strap you up with the stomach support band while you are laying down, so when you open the support band you can put a wash cloth on the end to avoid the hassle of the velco sticking to the support band. You will see how strong the velco is and what a hassle it can be.

    I Feel So Hungry!

Yes what you cook and taste is the same pureed. Say you made a chicken in tomatoe sauce, once it is made you blend it to make it mushy. how much are you suppose to have on your mushy stage. My nutrionist has a sample meal and she has 2oz of protein and 2-4oz of chili. I will be going on my mushy food on Monday the 20th. I plan on buying the chili in the which is low fat and that will be one of my meals. Also refried low fat beans, sugar free fruit cup, butternut squash which is cubed ready to cook, brocolli, cabbage and puree all of these. you can just get fruit and puree it. I read someone say they tried refried beans with ricotta or any low fat cheese over it and melt it and add salsa on that and it sounded good. Hope I am not making you sick. Also cauliflower can be cooked and mashed like mash potatoe. some people just get baby food. Just throwing out some ideas

    Decision

I have learned so much about nutrition which helped me lose 20 pounds in 2 months which was a great incentive. But I know I can not continue that trend which I know from all the failures. I weighed 282, when I started on May 22nd. I was banded on Aug 6th and I am now 34 pounds down. I am so happy I had this done. This is the best thing you could do for yourself. Just to not have that feeling of the bottom pit in your stomach where you can not stop eating. No more for me. There are restrictive items that they recommend not to eat, but those things are the white carbs which are the things that are my enemies. I am not a junk eater as much as I am a carb eater.

    Nutritionist

I loss 10lbs in 1 month on a diet of high protein, low carb. I was directed to have 100gr of protein, no more than 120gr of carbs, 50gr of fat per day and I loss wait. I sometimes use the meal replacement protein for a meal if it is too hot to cook with frozen fruit which makes it like a frosty and is very delicious. I was banded on Aug 6th and have loss a total of 34 pounds. I started my nutrition diet on May 22nd and was banded Aug 6th.

    It's Been A Week Already!?

I can't get all of my fluid in, but I have been eating non fat yogurt, cottage cheese and sr chocolate pudding which I added protein powder to. I am only at 35oz of water at 4:30pm. I have a bloated feeling and my followup appt yesterday the doctor said I am still a little swollen and healing. I am trying not to be too hard on myself about exercising, Dr. said take it slow with the exercise, so I have been walking every other day on the treadmill at a very low speed for 15 mins on the days that I have not done something around the abouts. I already decided if I start my mushies and it does not satify me, I will do a shake as one or 2 of my meals because I know they fill me up. I rather do that than to gain weight.
  10. My first visit to the surgeon was May 9th, my diet started on May 22nd, I reached my 5% weight loss was required for me with BCBS and by July 14th I reached that goal. My surgery was on Aug 6th and in between these dates, I had the various appts. Some were on the same day, so if you can make all the appts when they ask you to come, I would say 3 months.

Is Coffee Going To Ruin My Weight Loss?

I miss my coffee as well. I know you have a problem with substitue sugar, so it was me I would skip the sugar and use more of the non fat cream like coffeemate with flavors because that will cut the bitterness and that way you can really count your carbs and sugar. Coffee mates are sweet so you can make it as sweet as you want. The sugar will cause you to want more carbs. I found this information on line which will give an idea of what are on the label: this is not fat free so the numbers may be lower. Carbohydrates and Protein A single serving of Nestlé Original Coffee-Mate creamer has 2 g of total carbohydrates, less than 1 g of sugars and no protein. Peppermint Mocha liquid has 5 g carbohydrates, 5 g sugars and no protein. Nestlé Coffee-Mate creamer in Gingerbread has 8 g carbohydrates, 7 g sugars and no protein. The Nestlé Reduced Fat Original creamer has 2 g carbohydrates, less than 1 g sugars and no protein. 12. If your BMI Body Mass Index is between 35-40 and you have a underlining condition, like High blood pressure, diabetes or sleep apnea, you are qualified. I could not find a BMI calculator, but I believe your BMI is 36. Just your high blood pressure is enough with the weight. You can call your insurance company and see if they cover weight loss surgery. When I call my insuance company, they said if I qualify then they will cover it. I started this journey asking my doctor for pills to assist in weight loss and my doctor said no way, that will create heart problems. So I asked for a referral for weight loss surgery and I got it that day. There are a lot of dr appts. to go through. Good luck, I am on m 8th day of recovery still on liquids but I am not sorry at all.
  13. Be thankful you get the lean cruise. I had only 3 shakes a day and then 3 days of Clear liquids and that was the hardest and I knew I could not mess up the 3 day clear liquids because they will not operate if your bowels are not empty. What I did to help myself is to do my first shake late in the morning. I had problems with constipation and I had to take a few laxative during that week. I say do what you are suppose to do and it will pay off on recovery. I feel my recovery is speedy. I am on my 8 day post op and after day 3 I could get up on my own with out using my husband or a near by chair. Today, my stiches are still a little soar and itchy, but my stomach muscle are ok now. I only loss 10 pounds on the pre opt liquid diet for 14 days and after surgery I gained 7 pounds from Fluid ans swelling and by the 5th day I was back at surgery weight and today on day 8, I am 4.3 more pounds since surgery. I am on this liquid diet now with strained cream Soups, sf pudding which I add Protein powder for added protein, non fat cottage cheese, non fat greek yogurt. and 70-80 grams of protein and I am using Isopure which is 2 scoops have 50 grams of protein which is very filling after surgery. I have to put it in 1/2 of warm Water to get it to disolve and of course the 64 ouces of water. So after surgery, you will have a hard time getting it all in.

New To The Boards, Not Yet Banded

I researched months prior to making my appt. with the surgeon. I can tell you why I chose the band. I was concerned with the malabsortion, rapid weight loss, elastisity in you skin, hair loss and rapid ageing due to rapid weight loss and loss of nutrition issues with the sleave an bypass. Alos with the sleeve and bypass, you do eat less volume there are no real restrictions to your diet. However if you eat too much sugar or fat there is the dumping of diarehea and if you can not control your test buds then you are stuck in a rut. People meaning nurses in the various testing appts I have struck up conversations with and they favored the band. I wanted the band because I want the restriction of the carbs (my enemy) and I wnat to acheive this weight loss because of my life I have dieted and met goal (when I only had 40lbs to lose) but could not keep it off. Looking back I could say that when I would go off of my diet, I was still eating the right things, but in volume and then once I started gaining weight I would give up. I also know that alot of the diets I was on were not nutrionally stable so my body would go into starvation mode because my body would not cooperative. Once I got on a diet with my nutritionist and I learned more about how much Protein, carb, fat and sugar intake per day, and saw results and realize I can continue that diet plan and to know that I will be healthy and maybe do things other than hiding in my home not being social. That did it for me. Nothing easy ends up good. I am always going to go off and on diets, so at least I am doing it with my tool. Also it is reversable and if you feel it is not working you could take the drastic plung to the sleave. Hope this helped, and this is my option from the research I've done. Oh I started my journey on May 22nd at 282 and 8 days post op, weighing 250, loss 18 pounds before surgery and feeling so excited of the corner I turned in my life.
  15. When you arrive in the hospital tomorrow let them know you are anxious and they will give you something to relax before hand. Good luck tomorrow and take a walk to make you tired.

    Liquids After Getting A Fill.

Yes, your stomach will swell and if you eat, you will have a stuck eposode. You need to give your stomach time to adjust, and you may lose a few pounds in the process.
  17. We all eat badly because we are stressed. Did you have a 10 daypre opt liquid diet and 3 day clear liquids before surgery. If you went through that process you may realize that nothing is worth cheating after that process. I say you eat correctly and drink 2 no sugar, no carb Protein Shakes a day and you will not be as hungry. Stop the sugar and carbs. Make the decision to do it and don't make the operation a waste. Good lunch
  18. I am seven days post op. I had 10 days of Protein shakes and 3 days of Clear liquids before surgery. I hated it, but was not as hungry as I thought I would be. I have heard a lot of the banded hell once the swelling goes away and before your first fill. I have decided if I get to that point, I will convert to the 3 shakes a day and only eat green veggies if I must chew, like brocolli and cut out all carbs except the carbs that are in my shake. If I survived for 10 days on the shakes and survived the 3 days of clear liquid, I can go back to that. I know from being a career dieter, that if you cut your carbs out you will not be as hungry. Just my therory. I will see when it happens to me if this theory works.

    August 13Th...anyone Else?

I forgot to mention that the dry mouth is very bad, but the nurses gave me these fat q-tips with lemon liquid on it that really helped. I would rub it on my tougue gums, sides of mouth etc. and it really helped. Once I had my upper GI they gave me 1/2 cup of fruit juice 2 twice and then waiting and 3 hours later they let me go home.

    August 13Th...anyone Else?

Don't worry about the surgery, the nurses are very excited about the weight loss surgery. I had a tv, meds button, the hardest part was not being able to drink until I got my upper GI test the next morning. The liquid I had to drink for that test was awful and I did feel nausea when I got back to my room, so the nurse did give me additional nausea meds. I was given a tip by a nurse in the preopt room and she said if they as if you have had motion sickness in the past, say YES and they will give you a patch in the back of your ear. So I did just that and she was right, I did not have to worry about nausea but a few time which was after the upper GI, which I think it was from the liquid I drank and the wheelchair ride and elevator ride after the test. The first nausea was my first walk after surgery and I did feel very naustious. they gave me naustea med then. If you track some of my blogs on my journey 7 days later you will see more tips after you came home. You will definitely need someone home with you for the first 3 day. I could not get up without a chair near and that was on day 4 and the first 3 days, I needed my husband. I could not do stairs for the 4 days doctor's orders.
  22. I am on my sixth day post opt. I have been having lleft should disconfort and behind my left shoulder blade. I have been following my nutrionist program of 1/4-1/2 cup of non fat cottage cheese, greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, and 1 cup of protein shake 3 times a day and the other foods are for my choices for snacks. the first day I did that and my stomach was boated, shoulders hurt stomach was very heavy. Oh and Ihad to have at least 64 oz of water. I never reached the 64 oz of water. It has only been 2 day so far. Today, I am going to try to lower all the amount. Drink continuouly water very slowly. 1/2 cup of shake with water not skim milk, 1/4 cup of non fat cottage cheese, greek yogurt as my snacks. Yesterday I only had 1 snack all day and I was so full from the shakes and really wanted another snack but could not do it. I was so bloated with the shoulder pain. Getting up this morning I felt a little relief, but still feel full. I will start this morning with a 1/4 cup shake with water not milk. I suggest those of you after your clear liquids after surgery, you will want the 1/2 cup option but it is not worth the disconfort. So to the lowest options. Starting my second day of thick liquids, I am using isolate protein 1 scoop is 2grams of protein. I thinking I will putting 2 scoops and get 50grams in one serving so I do another shake with 1 scoop to avoid the bloated feeling and able to eat snacks between. I also have to trink the shake very slowly.
  23. If you have never had counseling it is an experience that will help you. I know you need to speed this up so I would suggest to let go of the the most private thing that you have been keeping in and after a few sessions you will feel better and you try to show the counselor that you feel so much better after letting go of that subject. Be honest. The reason why they want to give you counseling because they do not want to do the surgery and then you fail because of emotional eating for unresolved issues. I have not been to counseling for over 1 year and before I left I confided in my counselor about things I never told anyone and she knew that what I need to tell her all along. Insecurity was and is holding me back because of my weight. She knew after confiding in her that things in my past was the route of my weight issues. Think about what your issues are that make you depress. I know, I did 10 years of counseling off and on. When I told my counselor and doctor that I wanted to get surgery they knew it was a good idea because I let all my isssues out on the table and they knew my weight was holding me back from having the confidence to go forward. Try to get close appointments so you can get your surgery approved. Call your insurance company to see if you get approve before your coverage is over will they continue the services. Good Luck

    Being Banded 8/21/12

I know how you feel, after my 3rd day of Protein shake only 3 times a day, it got easier. I got a headache a few times and felt sick to my stomach and that is when I would do another shake. What I did do which helped, was I used the crystal light lemon tea flavor and I would heat that up like I was having tea and that help to change the pace of just drinking the flavored Water. I would drink the heated flavored water in the morning replacing my usual decaf coffee and I would wait as long as I could before I did my first shake. The first 5 days I could wait until 10am with the hot flavored water. Then after that it was 9am. then I would stretch out the time before my second shake and also tried to stretch out the third so it was 9-10pm. I became consitpated and my doctor said I could have once in a while hot broth with Mrs Dash and eat brocolli. I also took lettuce and use the I can't believe it's not butter spray and it taste very good. Now I am on my 3rd day on my clear liquid diet and I am starving and have hunger pangs. I am going to get through it and I keep in mind I will need this will power if I have hunger pangs while waiting for fills. I never thought I could do it. Only loss 9lbs on the liquid diet, but I am 25 pounds ahead of the game. Loss 16lbs on pre diet from May 22nd - July 14th. You can do it. Just keep busy. I stayed on this website the last 3 days.

    Liver Not Small Enough

I am on my 14th day of my liquid diet and I am on the 3rd of the 14th day of clear liquid diet. I had to do only 3 shakes of 27gram of whey protein and water. I became constipated half way through it and too a laxative before I got to my second week and the dr told me to eat a few cups of brocolli or something with no or low carb fiber also I could use very low sodium broth so I I did and I was better but I was worried about being binded still. I was surprised that I was not that hungry, and when I did feel hungry on the diet, drinking flavored water did help. I like the crystal light lemon and tea flavor and I would heat that up when I wanted to drink. I stayed away from caffine as well. I did drink decaf herbal tea. I am hungry now and I am allowed clear juices no surger not diet, but I have to drink diet cranberry juice. The juice have a lot of suger and calories and carbs, but they want that because your body needs those things. I have been tired on the and have not exercised on the 3 day liquid diet. No energy. the juices are 1/2 cup to 1/4 an I probably have had closer to 1/2 to a 1 cup and I am hoping that is not too much sugar. I only lose 9 pounds in 14 days probably because of the constipation. I will be measuring to see if I loss inches. Remember my liquid diet was very strick. I have loss 25 pounds since May 22, so I think my liver has sprunk by now. So if you have been losing weight during this process and you stick to your liquid diet you should be fine. Good luch.
