  1. I don't think I'm technically a vet but I'm 10 months out so I'll try to help. You all are less than a week out from major surgery. Your nutrition is not what your body is used to. I'm sure you aren't taking in all the carbs you're used to so you're body has to find a new source of energy. That will be fat soon but you have shocked your system and your body doesn't know that yet. It's not uncommon to be exhausted after a shower with any surgery. Grocery shopping may be a bit much too. I was like a baby the first week. Drink, sleep, pee, pass gas (no BM) for a week. By week 2 my energy was better. Could get through a basic shower, not shaving and all that fancy stuff. Give yourselves and your bodies some time. Enjoy your time off work near the holidays. By week 4-6 you're body will have figured out what the heck is going on and you'll be up and running good as new.

    No regrets?

Who's to say you can't have plastics later? Surgery is certainly not easy. But as others have said, fat with health problems with tight skin or thin and healthy with loose skin?

    Registered Nurse Sleevers!

I honestly had no incisional pain, actually didn't have pain at all. But I certainly didn't want to lift someone and do any damage inside. We don't have any form of light duty either. I would recommend staying home and learning the new you.

    Registered Nurse Sleevers!

I'm an ER nurse. My doctor had me on a 20lb lifting restriction for 6 weeks so I stayed out of work that whole time. He said CPR was an absolute no also. I was glad I was off for the 6 weeks. It gave me time to work thought the food stages and come up with an eating plan for work. I don't know if I would have had the stamina to work 12 hr shifts on a liquid or soft diet. Hope this helps.
  5. That "excess weight" is a funny phrase. My doc says statistics say it's whatever the high end of a normal BMI is but he views it as whatever your goal weight is (within reason). And that the "average sleever" loses 50-60% of that excess body weight. So I started at 260 and my goal is 160. If I fall into statistics I would end up at 200lbs. I decided before my surgery that there is no way in hell I'm going to be a statistic and have my stomach cut out to still weigh 200lbs. I don't really know if there is a true definition of "excess body weight"
  6. Just give your doc a call to clarify. There is a wide variety of preop instructions out there. Personally I didn't have a preop diet, just nothing after midnight the night before. Your dr may not think you need it. Just ask. You'll feel better.

3 weeks post-op: Pizza and Pasta?!

My apologies. I just realized the OP is from 2 months ago.
  9. Just focus in staying hydrated right now. Also try warming you liquids including your protein shake. Yuck, I know. But sometime warm feels better than cold. Keep up the good work. You're doing great!

3 weeks post-op: Pizza and Pasta?!

Regardless of what each of our drs post diet orders are NONE of them are pasta or pizza. Bread and pasta is the last thing to add back to your diet. At 3 weeks post op it is not just sabotaging your weight loss but possibly sabotaging your health. You need to take ownership of this. It doesn't matter what your friends/family think or do. Don't do it with them. Don't go out to eat with them until you can control yourself. I'm not trying to sound mean. There is just no reason to endanger yourself.
  11. Barring any complications and depending on what activities you will be doing on board you should be ok. You will need to bring you protein shakes with you so check with the cruise line about how that works. The "big name" cruise lines have the capabilities to have a mini ICU On board until the either get to a port or fly a patient out. I would see what their protocol is and what your insurance covers in case of a complication simply because you will be outside the US. other than that you should be fine.

    In Need Of Support

Coming from an ER nurse, unfortunately there are more incompetent and arrogant employees in the hospital than I would like to admit. Hopefully your CT comes back negative, your IV fluids give you a little boost and you can go home. Then you can work with your Dr to see if this is just an intolerance to milk or whey and go from there to find a protein you can tolerate. This will get better, you will get better. 6 months from now you'll look back and see how much better you feel. Good luck and best wishes!

    Oh The Holiday Treats....

Me too! I still do holiday baking, but I package it up and give it away. I leave just a little for hubby I fill my cute holiday candy jars with peppermint candy because it doesn't interest me. I buy low cal holiday treats, such as sugar free Torini pumpkin pie syrup ( great in coffee with a splash of milk or soy milk!), sugar free hot cider, little cutie tangerines, small amounts of nuts in the shell ( slows me down because I have to shell them), turkey little smokies, and the laughing cow cinnamon cream cheese. I also buy scented candles because I love the holiday scents. I eat Protein first at holiday parties. I will NEVER be able to ignore my eating. Lynda Just a quick question and off topic. What do you eat the cinnamon cream cheese with? I eat LC all the time but want to try the cinnamon and can't figure out what to eat it with. Apples maybe?
  14. First of all, congratulations your loss! :-) What do you do about carbs? What kind of carbs do you eat? My carbs mainly come from my fruit and veggies and milk. Once in a while I'll have a couple bites of sweet potato but that's about it. Typically for Breakfast I have 1 egg and 2 pieces of bacon. If I don't feel like cooking I will eat a greek yogurt, but a real one. Like Fage or Chobani and add some fruit. I don't eat the Dannon or yoplait Greeks because they are very processed. banana and a nut butter for snack. Turkey and cheese for lunch and maybe a salad. Nuts for a snack. And dinner with the family. I eat the same as them but no starch. That's about it. Pretty simple.
  15. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT BIT: This is the time to teach yourself that food is just fuel. That it is NOT important to your success or your happiness. Try to not make your food cravings important, if you can. Remember, the real work will begin when you can eat anything BUT MUST CHOOSE NOT TOO! Control your head! Absolutely!! This is very true. Take this time to learn about yourself and fix whatever you need to. It's the beginning of your new life.
  16. I eat 1200-1500 cals a day. I'm 10 months out and 95lbs down. My Dr wanted me at 1000cals from the beginning. Part of my calories comes from me eating regular, sweetened, full fat food. I don't use artificial sweeteners or low fat dairy (except milk, don't like whole milk). I get my protein in my meals and fruits and veggies for a snack. I eat almost a completely clean diet and feel the best I ever have.
  17. Had to delete my app in order to upgrade my phone. I have reinstalled the app now and it's showing my last log was in Jan 2012??? I have lost 10 months of weekly weights and can't find it. I went to the online site and it's the same. Can anyone help??

Thank you! I emailed them from that link and the already emailed me back and the problem is fixed. Thank you!
  19. I was thinking that a good jaw wiring would be a good start.
  20. I agree with mckally. Also, keep in mind you have a baby stomach. Lentils may be too rough right now. I'm 10 months out and although I can tolerate anything, if I eat cereal, grits, cream of wheat, whatever, my stomach still makes all kinds of gurgling noise. Take it slow. Best of luck.
  21. If you're simply trying to increase calories nuts and healthy oils like EVOO or coconut are pretty calorie dense.
  22. My New Years resolution will NOT be to lose weight next year! I'm 10 months post op Down 95 lbs My eating seems natural now. No one questions my eating or portions now. I feel great. Can shop for normal size clothes. Am way more active than before. At 5 or 10 years out will I still be loving my sleeve? I don't know for sure but can't really see why not.
  23. I'm glad I found this thread again. I had been following it but lost it (and many others) in the upgrade :/ I was sleeved on 2/27/13. SW:260. CW:168. GW:160 (I think). Almost there. Hope to hit 160 by the New Year! 92lbs gone forever!

    Interested In A Mentor

Your body is dealing with a lot right now. You still have things, fluid shifts etc going on since surgery. Your body is getting far less calories than it used to not to mention not having food and only having liquids. Focus on getting your water and protein in the amounts your dr recommended. Don't focus on the scale, it'll drive you crazy with big drops then stalls. I have weighed myself once a week since surgery and that works for me. There's a person on here that weighs once a month and she says she never sees the ups and downs, only the downs. Figure what will work for you and go with. Congrats on the new sleeve!
