  2. As I write this you have already been in surgery. Hope you heal fast and that you enjoy the new you!
  3. I too am tall. The Drs. office recorded 6 ft. but I was always 5'11" before. I am having surgery on 9-6 and have set a goal of 190 lbs. for myself. I started at 388 and am now at 291 pre surgery. When I went below 300 I was doing the happy dance! I can't wait to go below 250 now and I hope we can celebrate each others successes.

  5. You look FAN-TAS-TIC, you are one pretty lady! Do not beat yourself up over a .6 weight gain, you know that as soon as you are able to get up and move you will continue to lose. There will be times in all of our lives where we won't be able to exercise for whatever reason but as long as we get back at it as soon as possible all will be well. I have never had any previous bariatric surgery but have lost large amount of weight before only to gain it right back so I kind of know where you have been and the fear that you have. I just have to believe that we learn from our mistakes and that everyone has battles they are struggling with in their lives it is just that those of us with weight issues have a very visible struggle and it is easier for people to judge us then to look within themselves and face their own weaknesses/failures.

  7. I am scheduled for Sept 6th and the Dr. has me on 3 wks. of phase 1 of the South Beach Diet. I am SO THANKFUL that it wasn't a liquid diet for that period of time.
  8. I too am scheduled for Sept. 6th. I am not nervous (yet) more of a "bring it on" attitude. I am 51 yr old but have lost 91 lbs. on my own so far and feel younger then I have in yrs. I am hoping that as I continue to lose I will continue feeling younger and healthier. I have chosen to be somewhat open about my decsion to have surgery. My close friends and relatives are aware and fully supportive. I have always had a strong personality and like to face things head on so when I run into someone I will mention that I decided to have surgery to use as a tool to assist me with the rest of my journey. I kind of figure that in a short period of time the rumor mills will be at work and that if I talk about my choice there will be less people gossiping and maybe my progress will help someone else make a choice to better themselves in whatever way that may be.
  9. I am having my surgery on Sept. 6th. when I initially went to a dr. I went to a satelitte for the surgeon in the county I live in (about 75 + miles from hospital). I weighed 388 lbs. I was told to follow the South Beach Diet and that was the last time I was weighed in or saw a Dr. for 6 mos. I myself went and got the psych eval when I learned my ins. required one but by that time I was 4 mos in and also learned that I needed monthly weigh ins with my PCP. oops I continued dieting and called the surgeons office and was given an appt to see him. That day was 5 mos. after my initial weigh in and I had lost 80lbs. My ins comp. waived the 6 mos weigh ins since I had wrote down everything I had ate and proved that I could lose weight and follow a plan. t has been a month since that weigh in and I know I have lost another 8lbs. So keep positive and talk to your surgeon!

  11. I have BCBS of WNY and am scheduled for surgery on Aug 24th at Buffalo General. I started my process by seeing a Dr. (P.A) at a satellite office in Mayville in Feb. I was told to follow the South Beach Diet and to write down everything I ate. I saw the PA once again in March and then I didn't see anyone until I saw the Surgeon on July 11th. I asked the surgeon if he thought that would fufill the ins. companies 6 mos. diet stipulation and he said that there would be no problem because of the "paper trail" I had recorded while following the South Beach Diet. Hope that helps.

  13. Six months ago I started the process to have bariatric surgery. At 388 lbs. I knew I had to do something to save my life so I started following the South Beach diet as directed by my Dr. and excerising. My goal was to lose some weight (10 to 15 lbs.) and have gastric bypass done to help me with the rest of the weight. I have surpassed that goal and have lost 80 lbs. so far (yay me!!) On July 11th I finally had a meeting with a surgeon and have decided to have the Gastric Sleeve done to help as a tool with the rest of my weight loss. I was given a surgery date of August 24th and am very excited to start this next step of my journey. I am setting a goal of 200 lbs. for myself and with some work and determination I plan on achieving this and enjoying a healthier life.
