  1. Wow, I have not been banded yet , but I would think you need to put some grains in your diet, not a lot just a few times a week. Cream of Wheat, oatmeal, etc; they are important for health especially cardiovascular.

Also how is your exercise are you at least walking daily?

Consider the fact that some people don't respond to diet and exercise and need meds.

Vitamin E is a natural suppliment that is good for cardiovascular health, my doctor has me on it.

I don't know if that helps, but those are my thoughts.

    Good luck

  2. I go in tomorrow @ 7 to be banded surgery is @ 8. I feeling quite queasy right now. Normally things don't get me upset. I don't know if this nerves or one of my "episodes".

About once every 1.5-3 months I hit a weekend(yes always a weekend...?????) Usually a Sunday that I just get queasy. about 80% of the time I end up throwing up bile despite the fact I have been eating during the day. I just have to deal with it and try to get some promethazine down after and keep it down. By if I can do that I'm fine and its over.

I'm just hoping I can keep things together so I can have surgery. I don't want to stop my surgery or cause further complications... any suggestions????

  3. My paperwork for FMLA is all finalized thank god. Since Surgery is Monday. Nervous, excited, scared, hoping my 3 week pre-op diet did the trick and my liver is small when I try to feel just under my ribs I feel a solid object but I don't know if its my liver. I admitted I cheated once, it has me scared, I don't think it was enough to delay my surgery. I'm not trying to justify it I shouldn't have it was a bean/cheese burrito and a chicken taco. I've been better following the diet since and cutting my calories, my fingers are crossed I'm ok.

  4. I have a hiatal hernia and its being fixed when my band is being placed. Get a 2nd opinion.

I'm just getting ready to start my journey. I know your scared. I'm scared too. If they say no as well, you already have the tools to help you the small portions the exercise, just follow those steps. Now that you've already taught yourselve you don't need to depend on the band anymore. It was just a step in your life, you can do this, you are strong enough and smart enough to overcome this. I can't say I've been through what you have we all have our own stories and challenges, but I have faith you can do this.

    Best of luck.

  5. I've received my approval after denial appeal now the dr just need to submit my fmla paperwork. I'm scheduled for 8-13 1 week to go. I've been on my presurgery diet since July 19th no weight loss and definetly tired of it but I'm being good I have not broken. I think I'm more scared of the 2 week post-op diet Protein no carbs blended.

  6. I happen to be a coder/biller and the truth is technically yes. Its an extra code that can be billed. If you have insurance, its important to know what your portion should be do you have a deductible, cosinsurance (80/20%), and what is your out of pocket max.

*************example only****************you have a $1000 deductible, then coinsurance of 80/20 with a $3500 max out of pocket. Surgery cost say $15,000 $10000 for band and 5000 for the repair: insurance contract adjusts $6000 and pay $7200 your coinsurance =$1800+your deductible =$2800 with a $3500 out of pocket max you still have 700 before you are no longer responsible for any medical bills for you medical calendar year.

Again this in no way is a real life estimate. This is just an example of how the breakdown works.

If you are self pay get the estimates ahead of time. They may not be exact but unless there are complications they should be close and you should get a discount for self pay.

  7. I have Mirena I've never had kids I wouldn't say it was fun being placed, but I've had cramps that hurt worse, I have a high pain pain tolerance though. My cycles stopped after 6 months now they rarely show up, but when they do its just spotting and cramping for 3-4 days.

  8. I talked with my dietician regarding my weight gain, she said as long as I follow the diet shes not worried. I lost in my 6 month doctor supervised diet. because of that they are only concerned with shrinking my liver. My Dr.'s office gives everone the same plan you just stay between 800-1200 calories. She has actually advised me to stay at the 1200 range. Adding an extra dairy or meat serving. since I've been in the 1000 range the last week. Especially since there's a chance I might have to stay on the diet until the 16th instead of the 2nd with my Insurance denial.

  9. 1 week till surgery and I get denied. because I'm not mentally stable.

Well I've had a stroke already. I've been being treated for depression for 7 years Its been 8 since my stroke, and I continue to be seen monthly. I'm medicated and I will provide you with a letter from a Psychatrist and LCSW indicating I am stable and will be successful.

I've done 6 months of nutrition classes I didn't have to do in which time I lost weight which was not required.

Insurance won't let us request auth unltil 1-2 weeks prior to surgery.

Oh what a pain. very upset but still sticking to my diet.

Dr. Office said if we don't get the approval by Aug 1 we will have to post pone 2 weeks which would mean a month of the semi-liquid diet argh.

    trying to take deep breaths.

  10. Hi, I really doubt you are feeling your liver shrinking. I don't think that is possible. If you have pain on the right side under your ribs I think it might be your gall bladder. I have trouble with mine and that is where I get my pain.

Eating healthier should never make you feel sick or in pain. You are improving your life by eating healthy. I would absolutely talk to your Dr. and Dietitian about your problem and do not change your mind on having the surgery, yet.

I had my surgery in June and it has only improved my health and well-being. The diet my Dr. has me on is all Protein (meats, cheese, eggs etc.) and only healthy carbs (vegetables, green leafy). I also drink lots of Water or Crystal Light daily.

The pre-op diet sucks and I am the first to admit it. I could only have Clear Liquids for two weeks, but on the up-side I lost 12 lbs.

Be positive, talk with your medical professionals and keep trying to get healthy by getting the lap-band.

    Good Luck to you! :)

I agree this sounds like your gallbladder. I'm on the pre-op diet and and I can't feel my liver shrinking.

You also need to prepare your family that those fatty foods are not a fix, and will be off limits. Give them the diet packet you "should" get so they know what to expect.
