  1. had my 2 week post-op today

I was nervous because I've only been able to get in avg 40gm of Protein today. and avg 4-5 8 oz cups of Water.< /p>

My weight loss has only been about 10lbs.

I was completely shocked. I was told they did not expect any weight loss the 1st 6 wks because its a time of healing Based on their scale it was 15lbs.

My diet numbers were above average so I graduate to mushies.

Oddly my doctor has a much more strict diet than I've read on here.

I was only on clears for 1 day.

Pureeds for 2 weeks: no veggies, no fruits, no grains.

Mushies: add cooked veggies and cooked/diced fruit no grains except cream of wheat/rice x1 a week. No starchy veggies(potatos, peas, corn)

6 wks: can finally introduce all foods and get back to "normal" foods

  2. Why is it people on the outside only focus on how much you lose and not that the time right after surgery is for healing not loosing weight? Its like they expect the weight to just disappear. Yeah I would like that to, but thats not realistic. It tales time and life style change.

  3. As good as the Bariatric Surgeons are you should always confirm their med orders etc. with your pcp. They know you better than anyone if you've been honest with them. This far out you should not have continious pain. I could understand a twinge here and there but thats it.

  4. Ugh. I can't believe it. In just a few short hours of sleep i "dream cheated" three times on this whole postop diet. Each time i woke up and had to make sure i hadn't slept walked and actually gone into my kitchen and ate something solid. If this keeps up then the rest of the week is gonna be a total trip. Anyone else dream of eating solids?

I dreamed of eatinghomemade pizza my first week, haven't had an issue since.

  5. Since you don't even have much of an urge to go and don't sound constipated, I would take a stool softner, not a laxative, daily until you go. It won't cramp you up or have you running to the bathroom but it will help that first BM pass easier. When I have surgery, I take Colace from the time I'm discharged from the hospital until I finally go.

take the stool softeners and make sure you push your fluids. They are very important. I didn't like I should have and I did get constipated, its painful, don't strain, just follow your diet as your suppose too, it will take care of things.

  6. I felt a little better this morning. I ended up sleeping in a rocking chair last night and that helped. Having a hard time using the bathroom. :( I feel if I could just go I would be 100 xs better. Just taking my meds and relaxing as well as getting up and walking as much as I can. My husband is worried though because i'm sleeping alot and not hungry.

I basically slept the first 2 days. I would fall asleep talking, the hunger will come trust me, drink your fluids they are way important I did not drink enough and it caused me severe Constipation, if they did not give you some liquid Colace see if you can get some but still push your fluids.

  7. we are all here for you hon, my close family doesn't struggle with weight but family I'm not close with does. People that have never truly struggled don't understand. they say they struggle but 5 -10 lbs. off/on within ideal weight is not struggling. this whole community is here to help you; but I will tell you you need someone to help you physically, you will be sore for a least the day of surgery, probably at least a week. So you need someone onboard. whether its your mom, bf, or your close girl friend.

  8. So yesterday, I woke up at 4 to be at the hospital by 6... I live far from the hospital. My nurses and anesthesiologist were great! When game time came I felt so uncomfortable with the gas mask but then I was knocked out before I had time to complain. When I woke up the nurses said my surgery went really well and that I even had a hiatal hernia that the dr repaired at the same time so I got a 2 in 1 surgery. I wasn't in a lot of pain, but deep breathing is what hurts the most right now due to the gas. I'm debating in gettin the gas x strips like I've been hearing. Do they really work wonders? This gas is killin me!!! It's there.... It wants to come out.... But it won't. Any tips? Nonetheless it was nice to have broth for the first time yesterday!!!!

I've found that gentle massage of my lower belly(below belly button) generally helped just some gentle pressure back and forth in addition to walking. Oddly most came up, but expelling the gas was the goal no matter the direction.

  10. Ok guys so I'm one week banded tomorrow and just want to make sure I'm on the right track.

I've notices people at a similar stage to me describe that they are still very sore and not able to consume much?

I'm the opposite. I'm up and about my daily duties without much discomfort and quite hungry.

Whilst a Protein shake satisfies me during the day first thing in the morning I'm starving. It's 8.25 in the morning and so far I have had a coffee, tea and now on my second glass of a strawberry, banana, yougurt and skim milk smoothie!

Is it normal to be this hungry in the morning and is the smoothie the kind of thing I should be drinking?

Wow, I would be happy you've recovered so quickly. I'm 1 week tomorrow and still very sore. I'm struggling to get in my Protein and Water in. My hunger started returning yesterday, but I'm still limited to 4 TBLS a meal.

Have you been following your post-surgical diet plan? I'd talk to your doctor. If you are healed consider yourself lucky.

  11. I'm with you Roxygirl I'm still fighting the gas and pain and soreness. The pain is dropping and I'm lowering the amount I use. I'm down to about every 8 hrs for the pain meds. I think part of my pain/soreness is because a port site is on my left side and my left arm basically sits on it. I try to move it but its my paralyzed arm from my stroke so I can only do so much. I'm walking, drinking my Water, trying to get in my Protein. I've yet to have a bm. i'm taking my liquid Colace so I'm sure that is contributing to things. If things mellow out they just fill back up. grrrrrrrrrrr

  12. the shoulder pain could be from gas build up,

i don't have any suggestions for the breathing issues, I took my oxygen off within 2 hrs of surgery and have been fine ever since, I know a deep breath is painful because it goes to the bottom of my lungs and into my diaphram area.

There are many posts on here that just the diet changes are enough to change your cycle. things will mellow out once your body adjusts to the diet change which it hard with it constantly changing right after surgery. then about the time it adjusts to the diet it will need to adjust to the weight change so it could be a while. everyone is different.

Hopefully it just needs to adjust to the diet.

    I wish you luck.

  13. I'm in the same place banded Monday. Lots of gas mainly burping no bm yet been taking the liquid Colace to try to get things moving along with my dairy that usually helps. I notice lots of air with big drinks or little drinks. i've been burping myself by pushing gently on my lower abdomin. warm liquids are best room temp seem to upset my tummy.

The pain is improving; now its sitting up and bending over are my biggest challenges. i've been able to drop pain meds to only 1 and every 8 hour as long as I don't over do those 2 activities.

a few more days and we will all feel a lot better.

  14. Day 4 is going better. Still a lot of pain but nothing like yesterday, I'm figuring out how to move easier without causing as much pain.

I'm still only making it 6 hrs during the day between pain meds but I'm down two 1 instead of 2. At night I'm making it 8+ hours, but only if I take both pain meds. No shoulder pain, just a stiff. I have lower back bain worse than anything. I'm a side sleeper but that isnt an option.

I'm on thicker type foods. pureed chicken, cottage cheese, refried Beans, greek yogurt etc.4 TBL per meal plus Water of course.

  15. Well I was banded on Monday. No complications; it just took him extra time based on my circumstances.

My previous gallbladder and exploratory abdominal surgery had left scar tissue he had to dissect. My Hiatal Hernia was very easy to fix apparently 1 stitch in front 2 in back.

The odd part was the band placement. My Pancreas sits higher and closer to my stomach than is normal so he had to place the band higher and give me a smaller pouch so the band wouldn't interfere with my Pancreas.

Total time under was 2.5 hours.

I'm very sore though.; sitting up straight and bending r very painful. I'm trying to get in my liquids. Well off for another cat nap then to make a few phone calls.

  16. Could it be your gall bladder? I had the same issues before I had my gall bladder removed. And my surgery is in the morning also.

No I already had mine removed 4.5 years ago its mellowing out a little. A few more things to pack and I'm ready. Baby steps taking it easy anything more than 15 minutes standing sets off my tummy again so its a little at a time, since I can only use 1 arm.
