  1. I was also sleeved 7/17 and started losing hair after maybe 5 or 6 weeks. Still losing it, despite taking Biotin and using Nioxin. Luckily I have thick hair and lots of it, but at this rate, I'm bound to run out of hair at some point! As much as it sucks, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one where the hairloss started that early - seems like everyone else's didn't start until 3-4 months post-op.

  2. You'd be amazed at how little food 500-600 calories is. I'd suggest using MYFitnessPal now to track how many calories you're taking in pre-VSG so you have a good idea how much it takes to make you full. I would never have been able to limit myself to that pre-sleeve - I take in about that much now, post-VSG, and the quantities are very small.

As for foods - I'm 9 weeks out and can pretty much eat anything except salad and raw veggies. I eat steak - good source of Protein - and stick with leaner cuts and avoid sauces and toppings. I can only eat about 1/3 of a 6 oz. steak, though, whereas in the past I would have eaten the whole thing plus the sides. My dog is very happy that I've had this surgery, since she gets my leftovers.

The first few weeks are miserable, but it really does get better.

  3. With the band, healthier foods weren't going down for me - like vegetables. Carbs, otoh, went down easily. Not great for a weight loss tool. My port shifted, then the area got infected. They removed my band and did my sleeve in the same surgery. I only had the band for 2 years and lost weight at first, but after a while it did nothing and just made me throw up a lot. Glad it's out.

It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one! I'll definitely have to give the nectar caribbean cooler a try. I also love my Propel strawberry Kiwi waters, so I thought I'd try the nectar in that flavor as well. I'm so hoping to find something I can live with & not gag every time I think about having to drink it!

TennJenn...be careful with propel Water...check the calories...I went to a nutrition class on Saturday, and the instructor was drinking that until her trainer called it "adult koolaid" and looked at the label...25 calories per serving and 2 serving per bottle!!!! She was consuming 300 extra calories just from Propel water!!! Crystal Light has a strawberry kiwi...you may want to try that[/quote']

The only Propel I've seen lately is Propel Zero - no calories. Since they changed it, I've found it's actually too sweet.

  5. I have a little diet soda now and then I can not drink more then a couple of swallows and I really don't sem to care for it like I did pre op.

I still love my diet coke and my doctor knows I have some on occasion. He's fine with it as long as I don't overdo it - of all the vices one can have, he sees this as the least offensive (since I could be smoking or drinking alcohol instead).

  6. You are just as critical as anybody here' date=' but not about food choices. You are critical because people wont encourage or support other people's bad choices. Why can't tough love be part of the "encourage and support" equation? I expect people who support me to tell me when I'm doing something wrong, like wanting to drink a milkshake. I know I'm far from perfect, but I don't expect anyone to validate my bad choices.[/quote']

You're absolutely right - and I'm going to keep being critical of people who use this forum as a way to mock, ridicule and judge those who come here for support and encouragement.

And I call bull on your "tough love" -- you don't know these people, and I'm pretty sure you don't care whether people succeed or not. I think you, and some other people here, just like to spout your info and beliefs because you're positive you're right and everyone else is wrong - it gives you validation.

Me? I just want people to feel good about the choice they made having this miserable surgery and help them get through the rough Patches, of which there are many. To me, at least, that's far more supportive than criticizing what someone puts in their mouth.

  7. Wait aren't you the same guy that was telling everyone a few weeks ago that you were drinking soda????????????

    First, I'm not a guy.

Second, yes and that's exactly why I can relate to the OP. That day I had about 2 oz of flat, watered down, caffeine free Diet Coke and people jumped on me like I had a gallon of ice cream. In this thread the OP asked a simple question and wanted a simple answer. Doubt she was looking for the hyper judgmental and alarmist responses she ended up with. Unfortunately, those responses have a chilling effect on others posting - I've seen a few responses in various threads of people seeing how people react when someone posts something others would perceive as "bad" and saying they'd never say anything for fear of generating those types of responses.

Is that really what this place is about? Getting down on others for their choices? Because frankly, I thought it was for support and encouragement.

Funny, it's always that same group of maybe 5 or 6 people who can't help but criticize other people for their food choices. The majority of people are incredibly kind and supportive, but those same 5 or 6 people ruin it for the rest of us with their holier than thou attitudes.

  8. Hi I take Meloxicam (generic Celebrex) every day with no problems. Am about 7 mths out' date=' was able to restart it about 4 weeks after surgery. Dr did have me continue with Omeprazole(?) which I think protects the lining of your stomach.[/quote']

Meloxicam is generic Mobic, not Celebrex. Mobic is an NSAID, but tends to be easier on the stomach - my wife's gastroenterologist suggested that when she was diagnosed with gastroparesis. I've been on it for a while and stopped pre-op, but was told by my surgeon that I could start again at week 5, but needed to stay on my PPI if I was going to take it again.

    Generic Celebrex is Celecoxib.

  9. I'm glad for you.

You can do the research yourself if you like. I have a great link in my sig that explains the same thing. The information is out there for anyone to find' date=' I was just pointing it out. The fact that your stall broke is purely anecdotal. Being a lawyer, I know you are familiar with that concept.

And not all of us are ignorant of nutritional concepts. Some of us have been overweight all our lives, and we've read everything there is about weightloss, exercise and nutrition and could probably put some nutritionists and personal trainers to shame. Where we have been lacking is having the will to use that knowledge.

My NUT told me to drink those New Whey Protein shots from Walmart. They are of no nutritional value whatsoever. That doesn't mean she is an idiot, it just means she was wrong about this one thing. I'm sure your nutritionist is also human and not perfect.

You don't have to be so defensive against me, I was only trying to help and inform (not just you but everyone).[/quote']

I appreciate the information. I'm sorry if I came off defensive, but if I told my nut, "sorry, Butterthebean on VST said you were wrong , so I won't listen to you anymore" she would probably kick me out of her office... once she was done laughing.

Whatever she's telling me to do is working, so if it ain't broke, I'm not fixing it.

  10. Are you a nutritionist?

I asked my nut how to break the stall and she suggested I increase my calories. I did and it worked. Some people carb cycle, some people do alternating high and low cal days. My nut is aware of what I'm eating and the calories I'm taking in, so if she suggests I increase my caloric intake, that's what I'll do. I'm 25 lbs down, so I think I'll stick with her advice.

  11. I started losing hair way earlier than everyone else has - it started at about 3 or 4 weeks and has gotten progressively worse. I just started taking Biotin and am trying to increase my Protein (though I'm having trouble fitting it all in). I ordered Nioxin from Amazon - there are a few different ones. I think I ordered series 6 for medium, thinning hair. Hope it works. I've always had great hair and would hate to lose it. :(

  12. My wife is pregnant and when she had bad morning sickness she went to an acupuncturist who is into all this holistic stuff. She gave her a small vial of a strong peppermint liquid to just take a sniff of to alleviate the nausea. After my surgery I tried it and it works! I keep it on my desk at work now for whenever I get queasy.

  13. Thanks. I see the doctor and nut next week and also made an appointment with my PCP to get some bloodwork done. I've been eating very limited carbs, and getting in as much Protein as I can. I could probably up my Water intake - I just started using Mio to make it taste better and that's got me drinking more. I think I'm just a slow loser - without the positive reinforcement of the scale going down, it's hard to be upbeat about living through this surgery.

  14. Six weeks out and f'in miserable. Not the food, or lack thereof, but the idea that I had part of my stomach removed and for what? I'm taking in a minuscule amount of calories a day, have little energy, and am very slow to lose the weight. I miss being normal. I dread mealtime. I dread weigh-ins. My hair is falling out. I feel like I should have just invested in therapy to make myself feel better about being overweight - I probably would have been okay with that, and at least my hair wouldn't have been coming out in handfuls. Too late now, so I just have to live with the consequences.
