  1. I don't know that I think it's really them being selfish. It sounds like a couple of things from my perspective. It sounds like the first friend with the sleeve may just feel like it's too personal to talk about. Maybe there is a lot about their experience that you haven't heard about and she's not ready to explore that yet. Many people don't feel comfortable talking to the people they know about the surgery. This forum is a bit different because it's more anonymous, and you know everyone is accepting of it, since the forum is based around the sleeve. That's just my guess, it does not sound like it was supposed to be rude, although it may have come off that way. The second person it sounds like had an difficult post-op experience and is probably still struggling a lot with emotions and food addiction. So your wanting surgery sounds like it brought up a surge of emotions. At the very least, it sounds like she was trying to look out for you a little, not wanting you to go through the pain she did, although she definitely worded it poorly.
  2. My fingers are crossed for you! I'm not gonna lie, I would probably be one to call them every day and ask =p
  3. Yay =) You'll be in my thoughts, it will go great!
  4. Deep breaths and keeping busy! That's how I've been making it through the days. I go in for surgery tomorrow, so I can't give advice on what definitely works post-op, but I'm prepared with my gas x strips, my biotene mouth spray, and comfy pillows. I've got some other stuff too, but these have sounded like the most essential from many posts I've read =)
  5. Yayyyy!!!! =D You are kicking butt! You'll be in onederland in no time
  6. At this point I'm just echoing other, but it's just a stall =) Hang in there, it will start back up!!
  7. I haven't heard of it, but now I'm intrigued. I've always been a big fan of the beachbody video workouts. I'll have to check it out though, it's always fun to switch it up. .
  8. Awesome!! You are lookin' great =) Keep it up!
  9. It is almost here! I have surgery tomorrow morning. I'm the first patient of the day, so I've gotta be there at 6am. Getting so excited/nervous!! =)
  10. Welcome! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. It's such a pain to deal with insurance companies, that's for sure.
  11. Good luck! I'm sure it will go great =D
  12. My first meeting with my surgeon was immediately after my information session. During the appointment we talked over the procedure I'd decided on, what expectations he had for me, what required tests he wanted me to get with other facilities before approving surgery (i.e. psych eval, sleep study), and answered any questions that I had. After I didn't have much to do with his office until after I finished the requirements. I'm not sure if that's exactly how yours will go, but I assume that it will probably contain at least most of that, and maybe any additional requirements he has (like the weight loss some surgeons require pre-surgery).
  13. (((((HUGS))))) It's awfully frustrating when the scale moves the opposite way of what we want it to. I do not know your insurance company's specifics, but from what my insurance company and what I've read, it sounds like the pre-approval diet is for a few reasons 1) to give people time to possibly rethink it, I have a feeling many people feel it is a hurdle and give up 2) to have documentation that weight loss surgery is not the first option the person has turned to, they don't wanna fund it if there's a possibility that something else could help Whatever you do, don't give up! If this is really what you want, you can do it. Even if you gain the whole six months, at least at the end you will have that documentation.
  14. I am not a diabetic, but I do work in a pharmacy. There are so many different kinds/strengths/etc of diabetic medications that it's possible your doctor could lower your dose, depending on what you're taking. It would definitely be worth a call to them to make sure they realize how your blood sugar is spiking. I would contact both doctors, and let them know that you're concerned. Hopefully, even if they don't decide to prescribe anything, your mind will be put at ease that they are aware of the situation.
  15. It's a hard road. Be proud of yourself that you have the strength to start over =) You can do it!
  16. Welcome! You may wanna call your insurance and see if they can tell you what they cover/your requirements because they do take quite a while to move everything through. =)
  17. I think it really depends on your doctor. I have read many posts and it seems really varied. Some people have said their doctor postponed and some people have said their doctor went ahead. Though I know it's difficult, try not to worry too much, as you can't really change what it is at this point. (((hug))) I will keep my fingers crossed for you
  18. Woohoo! Good luck, you'll be in our thoughts
  19. This is just my 2cents, but my doctor stressed over and over at the consultation that he encourages his patients to look at percent lost instead of pounds (And on that note to try not to compare because everyone loses at a different rate). It's gonna be slower for a person who is smaller to begin with, because 20 pounds is 10% to someone 200 pounds, but to someone 300 pounds it is only 15%
  20. Yay! Congrats =) They will be here before you know it!
  21. Positive thoughts headed your way! =)
  22. Woohoo!! Congratulations =D
  23. I agree with this completely =) Hit those lunges and squats and you'll be good =D
