    Coffee After Surgery

Absolutely no coffee per my doctor. I was never a huge fan, so it's not a big deal, but it is an issue in causing dehydration. Don't push yourself if your doc says no. Maybe a nice warm cup of decaf tea is something you can try to start switching over to now so that you'll be prepared by the time surgery comes.

    Surgery

Sending good healing vibes your way for tomorrow =D I'm sure it will go great !
  4. I woke up in the recovery room with 2 nurses and I can remember telling them that it was hard to breathe. They told me that I was breathing fine and my O2 sat was 100%. I told them that I realized this but I just couldn't breathe well. They laughed and told me it was the CO2 and helped me sit up a bit so I could breathe better. I told them they were just so very nice =p Once I got back to my room I felt quite a bit better, though still in a ton of pain. The morphine helped tons and a few hours later they had me up and walking around. I think the hardest part was getting up from the bed, because it felt kind of like my insides were stretching. You'll do great =) The pain is totally worth it, and it is definitely manageable. Just don't be afraid to tell them if your pain is uncontrolled.

    Is It Just Me?

You are not being crazy, it's a huge deal. You're having a perfectly normal reaction =) I would have the surgery ASAP though. Having surgery the day after you start a school program and only a little under three weeks before starting a huge new job does not sound ideal to me. You wanna give yourself enough time to rest. The first couple days after surgery, I could barely keep myself awake through the day. I hope that the 15th ends up working out for you. =) Let us know how things play out.
  6. Straws give more air, which gives more gas. I've got enough gas to begin with! =p
  7. I bought some random brand whey Protein, but it was in vanilla. I actually like it better than the fruit flavors so far. I prefer chicken broth, but beef broth isn't bad. I had this idea that I was really gonna like vegetable broth (No idea where I got that idea), but I had it and it tasted like boiled mashed stinky carrots. I could barely get it down, and that was pre-surgery when I could stomach almost anything! All the broths I got were the reduced sodium. You could get broth and maybe add some unjury Protein Powder to it to add some protein, I think I'm gonna try that in the next week or so. Some places will have sample packs. I know my bariatric clinic sold nectar brand protein in many flavors in single use packets. I have grabbed a couple flavors and they've been alright so far.
  8. 3 weeks out I will be on puree foods, but call your NUT, they should be giving you more clear instructions. Better safe than sorry.

    Sleep Troubles

I have had trouble sleeping in my bed. I have had to sleep in the recliner or in the other bed, which is one of the sleep numbers that you can sit up a bit. I am used to sleeping on my side, but every time I do it feels like my stomach is hanging or something, even putting a pillow under it doesn't really help. And when I do sleep I can only go about 4-6 hours without waking up with pain. Did your physician okay anything to help sleep? If they say it's fine, maybe you could try some liquid benadryl? I hope you start sleepin soon!
  11. This might be kind of a newbie question, but do you have to continue this forever? Or is there a treatment that will remove it permanently?
  12. I like this idea, and this meal plan sounds yummy! I'm definitely bookmarking this thread for later use =) Plus I hate cooking, so if I can knock most of it out in a day or two for the whole week, I will be set!

    Bypass Or Sleeve

I just am seconding all the great reasons that were posted before me. I also wanted to say that the live to eat thing just is something you're going to have to be willing to change. Maybe I am reading the statement wrong, but it just sounds like you're giving up to that mindset. No surgery is 100% foolproof. They're tools and need the work behind them to sustain weight loss over time. That being said, sleeve seemed way more realistic for my life. Less restrictions. Fewer complications. I hope that you find what you're looking for and that it goes well =)

    Getting Sleeved Tomorrow

I'm so excited for youuu! Let us know how it goes!
  15. Oh, and contacts. I wear the kind you can wear for a month straight and I had to switch to glasses for the few days pre/post op.
  16. I have quite a few ear piercings and tongue ring and I was told to remove all body piercings before surgery. I would assume that your surgeon will most likely require the same. If they don't specifically tell you I'd pick the more cautious option.

    Preop Changes

Sounds like you're making some good progress. You've got a lot of time to continue to make good changes. I'm sorry to hear about your family member in the hospital. I hope that everything goes well for them. I don't know if you're religious, but even if you're not the hospitals usually employ chaplains who are happy to talk to family. Maybe just having some support and someone neutral to talk about your feelings with will help a little. I know in my clinicals there were patients that I had a hard time feeling like I could really help despite trying, but the chaplains could always seemed to provide a little more comfort. Do you think making a list of reasons you want this surgery would help? What if you made a goal to cut out one bad aspect per day for the next week? I dunno, but I know that you can do this! Sometimes it seems to me like if I can make it past the fast food place without turning in, I will be ok to get home safe. So I blast a song I like on the radio and sing along or I tell myself all the gross things I've ever heard about fast food (Or experienced! Working at McDonald's for a year kinda turned me off it for quite a while. You wouldn't believe how long that meat sits out...ick). Any pounds you can lose between now and surgery will only help lower risk and shrink your liver. Good surgery outcomes, yayy =) Keep us updated and whenever you're feeling like flying off the wagon, post! We're here for ya.

    Need Reassurance

It's been pretty warm here too. Not quite as warm as there, but I've been doing laps around my house when I don't feel like sweating it out around the block. Do you have any exercise videos? I used to love those and am looking forward to getting back to them eventually. It's hard to lose pre-op, but you can do it! Any pound you lose pre-op you don't have to worry about losing post-op =p
  19. Woohoo! The day is finally here for you =D It will fly by! That listerine swish sounds brutal, I have to buy the non-alcoholic listerine, the burning just kills my mouth. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers!
  20. It's normal and a bummer! I'm sorry to hear that you have to deal with both =( I'm crossing my fingers that I don't get mine soon, but I imagine I'm gonna. Hopefully it's a short one!
  21. Overall, I'm feeling alright. I'm kind of learning the dos and don'ts for my body. I made the mistake of letting my brain be on autopilot just a little bit ago and tried to stand up from my chair without putting my hands on the armrests and pushing up - big mistake! I freaked for a second when I got an inch of the chair and fell back down with abdominal pain, but I think I just strained myself a bit and it's down to a normal level of pain now. Getting used to not being hungry is kind of strange. I was a big portion eater pre-surgery and now it's taking me about an hour to get down like 4oz of yogurt. It's different, but good. I'm having a bit of trouble getting all my Water in, but it's on my list of things to work on tomorrow =) How many appointments have you had so far? Do they have you on a pre-op diet?
  22. This is a very vague question. It depends on your starting weight, your BMI, your goal, your surgeon's goal, how committed you are to post-op instructions. It would probably be best if you started off with some research about the sleeve and then talked to your surgeon.

    Feel Horrible

I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for your experience. That must have been very frightening and confusing, especially with everyone flocking to you after the surgery. I agree that it is unprofessional conduct, and I would let the clinic know that I felt uncomfortable about people coming up to me like that, despite their good intentions. I think it sounds like a good plan that you will refuse to go for further surgery until you have a plan in place and it is discussed. You deserve to be able to talk to your surgeon about what happened, and I don't think I would feel comfortable going back into surgery until I'd heard directly from him. I hope things go better this time and we're all here for you. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
  24. Welcome and congrats =) Sounds like you're doing awesome!
  25. I have a split level, and going up and down stairs was not a problem, just a little bit painful. My family members walked in front of me/behind just to make sure I was steady the first few times and now I'm fine, just keep a hand on the rail to make sure I'm steady. I'd suggest making sure that both feet are on the same step before advancing to another. It's tedious, but helps maintain balance.
