  1. Thanks MRSINTO, thing is, she's also struggled with her weight all my life pretty much. That's why I said she suprised me, I thought she would've been more understanding. But I guess being a mom myself I do understand her concern.
  2. I voted for you too, good luck on your weight loss journey!

    Pre Op Diet

My Dr puts his patients on a 2 weeks low carb diet. He said its like an Atkins diet. I have actually done this diet before and lost a lot of weight but got tired of eating the same things. He said its to shrink my liver, it makes it easier to get to your stomach since your liver sits on top of it. He also said he can tell when someone doesn't follow the pre-op diet b/c it takes him longer to their surgery. And believe me I ain't trying to be on that operating table any longer than I have to. :) Is there a low carb, decent tasting shake, that anyone can recommend?

    6 month dr supervised diet

I had to do the 6 month supervised diet. I have BCBS of AL. They were strict about having to go once a month without skipping any. I messed up on my 3rd month of weighing in and had to start over. Good thing I called my Dr office when I missed instead of waiting until the end of the six months to find out. They told me you have to weigh in with a Dr, not an RN, can be your regular doctor, gynecologist, etc. I chose to weigh in with my gyno, all I had to do was weigh in once a month and he signed my paper the bariatric Dr gave me, with "continue diet and exercise". I actually gained weight and they still approved me. I was told when I started the 6 month diet that I was pretty close to the BMI mark (41 with no comorbid conditions, yet) & I needed to stay about the same weight to get approved.
  6. I'm having surgery next month. I have been very open with my co-workers. I work in a small 911 communications center and we are all pretty open with one another. 2 of the other supervisors I work with had the surgery last year and have really inspired me to do it. They have done great with it and has been very open with me about their journey. I guess the only person that suprised me was my mother (we are very close). I even took her to a seminar and she doesn't like the idea of me having it and the band being inside my body for the rest of my life. She keeps telling me how I could do it on my own with diet and excercise. I appreciate her honesty about it, but I'm going ahead with the surgery. I know what's best for me. I think she'll come around when I start losing weight.

We are ALL in this together :-)

What an inspiring post. I haven't had my LBS yet I'm about a month out. I am going to take some advice a girl gave me on here and start eating slower, taking small bites, and eating healthier. The last few months I have been not been watching what I eat and have gained even more weight. So I'd like to lose a few pounds before surgery and try to get a jump start. I am also going to start walking when I can. I think it will help me to recover after my surgery. How much weight have you lost?

    NEWBIE

Welcome! I'm a newbie too, I just got approved for surgery yesterday. If all goes well I will be having the surgery on 5/24. My concerns are: being put to sleep, my body not accepting the band, not drinking while eating (that will be tough). There are more pros than cons for me though. So I'm going through with it!!!!
  9. Hey Y'all! I got approved today and I just wanted to say hello. I have been waiting a long time to have the surgery done. If all goes well I will being having surgery on 5/24/2013.
