  1. Hey just so you know...I am financing' date=' and I went thru the MedToGo international financing site. It specifically approves for surgeries in Mexico. I was approved in 5 days....here are the terms they gave me Specific to Mexico: must pay 24% of total requested as down payment, then 4 years at 16% interest....enough to pay over the minimal payment to cut some of the interest off. They were very quick in response, and of the 24% you put down, you get about 80% of it back via check when the loan is paid off.

worth looking into to. Just do some research for Lenders that Specifically do surgeries in Mexico and you can find something that will work for you. :-)[/quote']

Thanks for d info....I'm actually in d process of getting more info from them as well. At first Mr Robert Page was quick to respond to my emails but now he's taking a bit longer. Anyways I haven't made d actual application but this information sure does come in handy. I will surely continue this process, thanks again. R u having the surgery w Dr Alvarez? Also if u don't mind, r u having contact w Robert Page as well from Med to go international?

  2. I found another medical finance lender yesterday' date=' that specifies international surgeries with Mexico bariatric on the list. I should hear back from them today. Surgery is in just over 1 month so I want to make sure everything's all set.[/quote']

Would u mind sharing d site to have as a backup. Im getting very excited in making this decision a reality.

  3. Getting SO excited! Flight is booked' date=' hotel (since we have to go down a day early due to flight times) is all booked, and ensured a few days off extra from work to heal a bit more before heading back. And financing went thru, so they will send my papers to sign on September 8th, and we are all set!! Yay!

How does the payment to Dr Alvarez work? Since I'm doing it partial cash and partial financing, do I bring a cashiers check for the balance with me??[/quote']

If u don't mind me asking, who did u finance with? Just looking at my options my credit is not that great

  4. I bought them right at my dr's office but if you look online you can find the website and the places you can order from online or at locations. I tried seeing if i could find them cheaper online and i couldnt..they were actually more expensive (go figure). I had to buy 4 boxes at 33.99 a piece..but i figure if thats all im eating for the next two weeks i probably would have spent more on trips to supermarket/take out.

Thanks for d info....I will look into it....to be honest that is what is my biggest fear is what d heck am I going to drink at that particular stage since my taste buds for Protein shakes is like uuuugh! N that's bc I haven't even try any, I guess now would b d perfect time to start experimenting :)....anyways thanks again for ur help.

  5. So i start my liquid diet today. My surgeon has me on HMR 800 shakes (comes in vanilla and chocolate) at 5 a day but they want me to have 1 shake at one meal and 2 shakes at the other meals. I made 2 packets of the chocolate this morning in the blender with ice and it comes out super creamy and looks like a milkshake. I was kind of scared of not liking this Protein drink but so far so good the choolate is really good' date=' no weird after taste and its not super sweet. Now i just have to try the vanilla (i brought that for lunch) and they gave me a bunch of recipes to give variety. If the vanilla tastes as good as the chocolate then i dont see why i will have a problem sticking to the two week liquid diet. Wish me luck!

    Starting weight: 263,9

Goal to reach : 255 (surgeon wants me down to that for surgery)[/quote']

Best of luck w ur pre-op adventure...by the way where do u purchase those Protein Shakes?

  6. I've been overweight my entire life' date=' so now that I've lost 29 pounds since my preop about two months ago and my sleeve on July 7, I feel in denial, like I keep questioning myself if I really lost 29 pounds after struggling for years to lose on my own. I'm sure this is normal but I feel like I'm doubting myself and sometimes wonder if I'm going to be fat my whole life. Does this make any sense ? Then I feel like a slow loser, I'm happy I'm losing and I know everyone loses at different paces but I always wonder. I know my SW was 250 which may be lower than some, but I still wonder and would love opinions so I can feel better.[/quote']

Hi Susie, ur a great inspiration n very knowledgeable on this process which I know since u were one of my first contacts in regards to this process. I myself haven't gone thru with d surgery not bc I dont want to but bc of financial reasons. Hang in there I think it's amazing what ur doing, stay positive n message me or post whenever u need someone. This forum is awesome, full of information n virtual friends :) have a good night, rest n tomorrow will be another great n blessed day.

  7. My recovery is going great! I could not ask for an easier surgery. Dr. A. truly has some gifted hands. I experienced no pain' date=' and would have thought I didn't have surgery at all if I hadn't lifted my gown to check the incisions. No surgical gas pains, no nausea, no hunger, it was like getting waited on for luxury purposes.

However as some know, I also had some dental work done. I had 10 teeth pulled. I can handle tooth extractions but it turned out that the problem wasn't with my gums, that i had deteriorating bones and they had to scrape them and that was excruciating pain. Happened to be the only pain I had from my travels.

I am a week out from surgery and things are great. I do get tummy gas every now and then but as long as I continue taking the acid medicine he prescribed as directed I am good. I am down 21lbs total from pre-op until now. I weighed 310 day of surgery, gained up to 318 from fluids and today for weigh in I came in at 301.

Sweetsusie is doing fine. I talked to her today as she was checking in on me. She says she still has a hard time believing her restriction..and can barely get down 3 ounces. Of course Dr. A. says its all going to take time.[/quote']

Im so happy for u w ur recovery ....as for ur extractions all I can say is WOW :) u r a brave woman! Do u have any follow up visits w Dr A?

  8. You can swim only if you haven't had surgery yet. Every doctor is different but most say no swimming or tub bathing after surgery for 14 days or until all incisions are completely healed.

How r u doing w ur recovery? I be been trying to find the thread w dr Alvarez patients but get a bit lost w all d great feedback everyone has to offer. I also havent seen posts by sweetsusie, last time I "heard" from her was that she was recovering from strep.

  9. Thanks so much for all the replies. I'm still on the fence about the procedure. Still not 100% on whether it's right for me or the right time. IF I decide that surgery is the right option' date=' it'll be the sleeve no doubt about that, just still trying to decide lol. Not an easy decision to make.[/quote']

I myself haven't decided yet since I'm faced w d self pay dilemma bc my insurance doesn't cover WLS. I'm glad to see BMI of Texas w good reviews... I was able to speak w dr d n was very professional n was able to answer all my questions n reassured me about d process of d procedure. Now my only problem is deciding either to pay 14000 w BMI of Texas or 8500 w dr Alvarez in Mexico? $ wise d answer is very obvious but I have heard so much positive feedback w dr alvarez that I really would love to go w him but then I get scared about any complications n how they can be handle.

  10. Oh I have 3 small incisions and a drain hole. I fully expect to be in my bikini by next summer and looking good finally by next year :)

Hi there, first of all congratulations on ur surgery n best of luck :).....I do have a question if u don't mind, I know about d three small incisions but what exactly is d drain hole that u mention.

  11. Out and alive thanks for all the well wishes! Woke up fast from a pain med malfunction in the IV but smooth since then without any real issues now just practicing drinking Water

Wishing u a fast recovery...so excited for u n hoping u can share ur experience w us that r in d beginning stages if this process.... Congratulations!!

  12. I originally posted this in another thread but I thought I would post here as well!!!

Im 23 and 5'3"....So I recently went shopping and found that I am finally in regular size clothes!!! WoooHooo!!! My sleeve date was May 1st. Starting weight 257-18w & 2x tops---today 199- ..........14 & 16 REGULAR JEANS & L tops!!!! Notice I also hit Onderland!!!!! I am currently in a stall and have been for at least a week or so! I try not to weigh my self everyday... for the last 2 days I've worn dresses! I never thought I would but they look amazing! As you can tell I'm very proud of my self. It wasn't but maybe 6 weeks ago I was on here crying thinking I wasn't going to drop anymore weight...I have stalled ALOT!!! But hey slow and steady is fine with me. I have noticed I'm starting to have extra skin in my breast area...SRY TMI!!!!! I will have plastics sometime in the near future after I hit my goal. I'm shooting for 160-----140 would be amazing----who knows... Im going to let my body decide. My husband loved the old me' date=' but is wild about the new me.... I do sometimes "miss" food....I hate the uncomfortable feeling when I take that 1 last bite (I still haven't learned)! I haven't conquered "head hunger" My enemy....chips (Pringles & Cheeto-Puffs)...in the last 3 months I have quit my job, went back to school(full-time), strengthened my relationship with my hubby and son! I'm trying to finish my basics so I can get into the Petrolleum Engineering program. Before the sleeve I was to tired to do anything... I worked full time 50+ hours...I wasn't in control of my life...I am now...What have I learned... No matter the size or shape I am...pretty or not...I love me for me and want to be healthy for me and my family!!! I do not regret my sleeve at all. At times when I ate to much and was in pain I would probably tell you different but it has been absolutely life changing!!!!! I'm sorry for all the extra info I have crammed in here I just felt like I had so much to share with the world and you guys, I knew, would be happy for me and listen!!! Future sleevers-don't second guess your self...And when you hit that stall get on here and talk to someone...there is so many motivational stories on here that will help you get through!!![/quote']

Congratulations on ur journey...make me look forward in this decision that I'm about to take. Do u mind sharing who performed ur surgery?

  13. I just got mine done from Dr. Alvarez... I adore him. They put you in a hotel beforehand' date=' you stay 2 days in the hospital and after they put you in another hotel... all included. They have such a great program and it was really great. I don't know the other doctor but I'm sure he is great too. I just felt so at ease with Dr. Alvarez and his program. I'd call both doctors and get all the information and decide. Not sure if you've already done that but I'd do that and see what you think. I'm almost a week out, yay![/quote']

Is ur stay for surgery two full days? Also what happens whenever there is an emergency? Do I have to go back n get treated by him or would ur primary pcp be able to take care of u? Sorry for all d questions but I'm also in d primary stages of this decision.

  14. Hello, well I went today to d informational session w d Bariatric surgeon n just like I suspected my insurance doesnt cover d surgery but I got to meet d dr. Very good information n got to meet w him one on one but honestly didn't give me much of options for d surgery except that I was a candidate n d cost of d surgery is 14000 including d post office yearly visits. This is d second surgeon that I visit n so far d one that has made an excellent impression has been Dr. Drupier. I'm now doing a third search by initializing a first contact w d office of Dr Alvarez n see what he has to offer, but I know I won't be dissapointed for I have heard so many positive comments.

  15. Sweetsusie, was d seminar in Houston? I live closer to San Antonio. Idk if also someone had mentioned he practiced in matamoros mx? Sorry for all d questions but I just feel overwhelmed w making d right decision medically n financially as well. Hope u don't mind ????

  16. I have been reading great reviews for dr Alvarez. Is his office only in eagle pass? Does he meet w u anywhere else? I'm really considering him. I go tomorrow to seminar w another surgeon. Trying to keep options open in case my insurance doesn't approve.
