  1. Allie- how old is your son that you are nursing? I'm still breastfeeding but I'm weaning my baby girl before the surgery because I was having a hard time finding others who are nursing and having wls. I didn't think I'd be able to get in enough fluids and would dry up quickly from the surgery. My 11 1/2 month old is down to 4 feedings a day but today she's only nursed once. I haven't told my surgeon because I planned to have her weaned by this weekend. Let me know what your experience has been when it comes to nursing and the sleeve. I would love to continue but since I wasn't able to find anyone who has done it' date=' I just assumed that it wasn't possible. Thanks[/quote']

Hey! My son will be a year old on the 27th. I nurse twice a day now because I did lose a little of my supply. Who is your surgeon??? My surgeon fully supported my nursing. I have had an amazing experience and nursing really helped me through my recovery. My son kicked me once in a while, but the boppy was heaven sent! If you want to still nurse tell your surgeon!

  2. No matter how many posts you read about having the surgery when you have small children, you will always here the good and bad. I recommend talking to your doctor about your concerns. I also recommend that if you have the surgery make sure you have help. My husband took a week off of work with FMLA and took over watching the kids so I had as much time to heal as possible before I started caring for them by myself. I would not have been able to do it without him. Almost 5 weeks post op my husband still asks if I need a nap when he gets home from work. It comes down to your comfort level. Everyone heals differently and experience post op differently. I am so happy I had the surgery. I am a nursing mom and I had things planned so well that I was nursing my son at the hospital and had my home set up so I was careful with stairs, lifting, bending, and even getting out of bed. We put a recliner in the bedroom so I could get up easier and also nurse my son. My doctor gave me great advice and realistic expectations. I wish you luck. This is a life changing surgery and is a hard decision when you have little ones depending on you.

  3. Wow! You do have looong days!! Yikes! And all that at 4 weeks out? How did you handle the exhaustion after surgery?

    Thanks!

I napped as much as I could. I was burnt out a lot the first couple of weeks. I was dehydrated and only getting in 30-40 oz of liquids, which was a killer when I was nursing 3x a day. Now is sooooo much easier to get my Water down. As long as I am hydrated and I remember to eat I notice I am not as tired. I also make sure I get as much sleep at night as possible. I have fallen asleep with my laptop in bed with me while doing homework. I finally had to remind myself I needed to go to bed the same time every night. So I picked a bed time and I stay to it for the most part. No more waking up to my computer tipped over next to me!

  4. When I started my journey in nov '11 I was 347. I know I weighed more, but didn't weigh myself till after two weeks of dieting. I was scared to see the scale. I started my preop aug 3rd and was at 311. Aug 14 was my surgery date and I was 296. Today I am at 269!! I am down 78 lbs since I started and down 27 since day of surgery. I still have a ways to go, but I am thrilled with the results so far!

  5. I have two kids. 5 and 11 months. I was sleeved on 8/14. I am still nursing my infant, I even nursed him at the hospital. I don't pick him up by bending down still. If I have to pick him up I have him crawl up the stairs and then I lift him. When I changed his diaper I kept "diaper stations" through the house and would have him crawl on the couch or I would get on the floor. I avoided lifting him and I used my umbrella stroller more than I thought I would lol. I had to nap when he did. By mid day I was exhausted. Some days I still need to nap, but I am going to school full time since 2 weeks after surgery. It's crazy here lol. My husband is a big help when he can be, but he works nights and sleeps during the day. I recommend not going out of the house unless you are walking or have to. I had my groceries delivered for 2 weeks (king soopers offers it in my area) and kept housework to a minimum. My 5 year old has had a fat allowance for several weeks now lol. Good luck to you! If you have any questions you are welcome to message me,

  6. Alliemm' date=' understandably frustrating!! How is your energy level at one month. I feel weak as a mouse. Wonder how you heal with so little nourishment.[/quote']

It is different day to day. I needed a nap today because I was so drained. My Nut has me on three meals a day and one Protein shake. No snacking and when I'm not eating I have my Water on hand. I notice the days I don't drink enough Water I am sluggish. The first two weeks I napped every day. The third week I was taking my kids swimming. As long as I drink my water and eat enough protein/carb I am good to go. With only being 4 days out, I recommend planning a nap in your schedule when you can. It will help your healing along with fluids.

  7. I am about to hit one month out and I am on my second period. I haven't had one in over a year with my iud, then I get 2 back to back. My doc said its because of the estrogen being released from the fat cells. All I know is that I have an iud for a reason, and I want it to stop! Lol

  8. Thanks I'm willing to try anything. As of now I can get about two 16 oz bottled waters down each day. I worry I'm hurting myself on the nutrition side. Take 2 chewable multis a day.

I'm hitting week 3 and I'm still struggling. Not only with the liquids and Protein, but with my emotions as well. I take the Protein bullets and mix it with crystal light for the whole day. I have to keep it chilled though. I still can't stomach a Protein shake by itself. At week two I mixed my Protein Shake with low fat milk, half a banana, a small amount of oatmeal and 1/4 cup of chopped almonds. Then i blended it with ice. That made it so much better. I am doing better than I did at the end of my first week, but it's still a struggle. If your depression keeps hounding you, don't hesitate to call your surgeon. Mine gave me a temporary solution just to get me through these first few weeks. I'm so glad I told him what I was feeling, because I don't know how I would be if I didn't! Good luck to you!

  9. It only occurs at night time when I'm laying down. I think I'll def call my Dr. tomorrow. I hope it isn't something bad. My biggest fear is blood clots.

I have RLS (restless leg syndrome). I mainly feel it at night when I am laying down. It is the same as what you are describing. It just drives me crazy. I have to get up and walk around or lay on the floor. My doctor old me to get a massager that vibrates to add stimulation to my legs for the blood flow. It helps a little. He offered to give me medicine for the symptoms, but I can't take it till I am no longer nursing. I hope your doctor finds the answer for you. Good luck.

  10. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2004. My cycles were unpredictable and lasted 7-10 days. Ugh!! I was able to have two kids and my second one I became pregnant the first time we tried after I lost 50lbs. He will be a year old next month. I had the surgery in August and I have an iud. I still get large cysts and my surgeon even drained one while he did my sleeve and took out my appendix. The pain from the large cyst is gone and I started a cycle 3 days after surgery. which is unusual since I have an iud. I hope I don't become "too" fertile with all this weight loss. For anyone who is trying to get pregnant I highly recommend checking out "My days". You can track your cycle, intimate moments, etc. when you have tracked a couple cycles it shows you when you are most fertile. I was told I couldn't have kids without fertility treatments for years, but I guess I was out to prove them wrong lol. Good luck and I hope that anyone suffering from PCOS gets past it!

  11. I am not a huge fan of exercise myself. One thing I did fall in love with is zumba. I go with some friends once a week and it's a blast. I haven't been able to go for a few weeks because of surgery, but I can't wait to go again. They offer them for sure at 24 hour fitness and my YMCA offers them. My hour of exercise goes by fast and I was burning between 800-1000 calories.

  12. I'm 8 days post op and very emotional as well. I could cry at the drop of a hat. I've realized it is because I don't have my emotional coping mechanisms available (for me' date=' food and wine). They numb my emotions. While I haven't been hungry I have that learned behavior to eat my feelings away so there is a gap. It's like pooping your pants and having to sit in it....insert angst, anger, frustration, etc for poop and that's how I've been feeling.[/quote']

I used to smoke, then when I quit that I latched on to food. So I know exactly why you mean. I just wish I could find a new outlet.

  13. so as I understand they knew that you had surgery and what kind of surgery? If yes ' date=' I am not sure who is more disrespectful. Sorry about that... Just try to ignore. I usually if I don't want to eat take the glass of Water and seat at the table but if food bother me I will leave. ( I don't have a surgery yet.)[/quote']

They were aware of the surgery and I ate ice chips at the table. That's why I'm so confused about it !

  14. I am not quite 2 weeks post op and I feel worse than the short period of baby blues I went through after having my last kiddo. I cried like a spoiled brat when my husband said I couldn't buy a lotion for my dry skin. Then I cried my heart out when I didn't get a pedicure today. That's not the only things that have had the Water works working over time! I don't really have anyone to talk to about it and my kids and husband are walking around me like they are on egg shells. I made lunch for my in laws the other day and then asked why I wasn't eating it with them. Uh, really?? They told my husband I was disrespectful! I show them a video of the surgery days before the incident, I inform them of my lifestyle change and that's how they react? How the heck do I handle this? I just wish I could find the cause of all these emotions before they take over completely. Does anyone have any advice??

  15. My doc was fine with me having just my IUD, but still told me to be careful. He said the first year to 18 months is not the best time to get pregnant due to the quick weight loss. Check with obgyn and see what he/she recommends. I personally don't like condoms as well. Good luck!

  16. Congrats!! I had an irregular cycle since early childhood, and was told in 2004 I had PCOS. I was put on BC for the same reasons, but my oldest child still found his way into the world. That was a pregnancy test shocker!!

I have an IUD now and haven't had a period since November, which is normal for me. After my first child I didn't have a cycle for 5 years on my last IUD. Then I have surgery and now I'm on the 9th day of this cycle. It's driving my crazy and I'm going through the same thing! I dont know why it's correlated at all, but I can't tell which cramp is which. Take some midol, it helps. Also, get some heat packs. When you aren't used to having a cycle you aren't stocked up.

  17. I have battled anxiety for a while now. Before I was discharged from the hospital they gave me approval for all my meds, including my anxiety med. I am one week out and with the pain, unknown, and living with my in laws... I have not had one single panic attack since the day before surgery. I used to have one every other day or so. The only thing I can think of is that the pain meds are keeping relaxed. So I guess I will know if I need them still here soon when I no longer need the pain meds. Here's to positive thinking and no more anxiety!!
