  1. I lost weight while on night shift, not sure why, but here is what I did.

Ate a meal before going in or either took it with me to eat after report and rounds. Then I would eat a little something after midnight rounds. Then after I got off I would eat Breakfast (Light- fruit and or yogurt) and go to sleep.

I was always drinking something, which was good and bad. On slow nights going potty was something to do. On crazy nights (think full moon) I would think my eyes would float before I could get to potty. I tried to rotate between coffee and crytal light in very cold Water. To much caffine can make some people more hungry. For Snacks it was all fruit. Try adding flax seed and or wheat germ to meals, yougurt, cereal- this helps you stay full longer and has a lot of nutrients.

When I left the hospital and went to a "normal" job, I gained about 40 lbs. Go figure.

  2. Some people don't have any issues when they fly, other have major issues. I, fall in the ladder. I carry Protein powder so I can mix a Protein shake when I get where I am going. Not much aside from liquid or yogurt goes down after a flight with me. But, I am able to sip Water while on a flight. Last time I sipped on a hot cup of coffee and that really helped me from getting to tight when we landed.

    Have a safe trip

  3. I LOVE mexi food, I mean totally love it. The problem with US mexi resturants is the food tends to be loaded with salt, which is why the hubs and I don't go often. A friend of mine who is married to a great guy from Mexico, gave me the following recipe for a healthy fajita meal.

1 large chicken breast cut into strips

1 large onion cut into strips

1 large pepper cut into strips

    1 teaspoon of cumin

    dash of lime juice

    salt and pepper to taste

In a skilled I put a little canola oil let it get warm, add the onion and peppers - sprinkle with a little salt and pepper. When the the onion has begun to turn transluncent move the veggies to one side and add the chicken to the other. Cook for a min, then stir and add the cumin. Allow to cut until the chicken is almost done and add lime juice- a touch more salt/pepper if wanted.

Along with this I fixed refried Beans.

In a skilled with a touch of oil I cooked a diced onion and 3 cloves of grated garlic- when that was almost done I added a can of fat free, low sodium refried Beans and flated them down. Add a half a can of Water and stir. Once mixed well, sprinke with low fat cheese.

This recipe serves 4 people and is sooooo good. I just eat the faijta mixed on top of my beans and don't eat a shell- to cut the carbs.

If you try this let me know if you like.

  4. Do you still have your gallbladder? I ask because my BFF had the same issue- post bypass- during her 1st preg. They kept saying it was just the baby pushing on things. When her daughter was born by c-section they both stayed in the hopsital 4 days, then went home. The pain was worse- they said it was due to the surgery. The next day she had to be rushed to the ER and had emergency gallbladder removal- a stone had blocked off the bile duct.

  5. Greek yogurt is great for after healing. In phase 2, post op, you will need to avoid thick and creamy yogurts. Look for the light yogurts. They are thinner than greek and will go down easier. Once you are on regular food, you can transition to the thicker- thick and creamy and greek.

  6. My doctor said that a band could wear out, but it doesn't have to. He said just like any foreign object placed in your body may wear out, just like a knee or hip replacement, a band may have to be replaced; but it doesn't mean it will give out. He said it was something that I shouldn't worry about, it may last my life time and it might not - but the better I take care of it the longer it will last me.

  7. Here are some of my Breakfast, because like you I don't eat at home and I don't have a lot of time:

Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt with 2x Protein (only 80 calories) with a few blueberries and a sprinkle of granola

Special K Protein Cereal with 1% milk

Weight Watchers High Protein shake (20 g of protein)

High Fiber oatmeal with blueberries or banana or apple chopped up in it

All of these are fairly low cal, so if I get hungry mid morning I will have an apple with Peanut Butter or grapes with cheese, or a peach

What I try to do is eat a lot of protein, Fiber and fruit and veggies each day. I try to eat clean- nonprocessed- it has helped me not only feel better, but my body is more regulated.

  8. My doc said no, but I have a friend whose doc said it was ok after 6 months post. I have tasted one, honestly it made my stomach hurt so I don't drink them at all anymore. After finding out that Mt. Dew has oil in it (look it up it's in there) I can't think of drinking it. I mean yuck!!

I highly recommend trying the different flavors of crystal light and propel- they are excellent and allow you to change up the taste of Water. I drank Crystal Light peach mango green tea for a while, now I am on Propel grape, sometimes crystal light lemonade. All good stuff.

  9. You are still very early on. Likely your feelings are more surgery that sugar. While I do not have diabeties, I do have issues with my surgar droping, it just never goes up out of range. The days following surgery as the swelling decreased I felt that Sh*&. I wasn't getting much in and feeling low. Once I got back on mushies I started to feel better and it just got better from there.

Your body is adjusting not only to surgery, but to the far less food, it's trying to heal, so it's using up some energy for that, Give it a few more days before worrying to much. Best thing you can do is check your levels make sure they are ok, stay hydrated (very Important), walk as much as you can, and rest! Your body has to have time to heal and adjust.
