  1. Anyone have any problems with whey Protein? I only have 1 shake in the morning each day, Optimum Nutrition, but every afternoon I end up having a lot of gas and it's pretty bad, Gas X doesn't even help much. I'm thinking about trying Plantfusion protein, but was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions? I don't think I'm lactose intolerant as I can drink milk, eat cheese, etc. but something has to give and I know I can't get all my protein from food alone.

  2. Congratulations on your recent banding! I was banded 07/09 and like the previous poster said, it does get better! The best thing that helped me with the gas and my shoulders were tight as could be for the first 2 days, I thought it was the couch, lol, but walk, walk, walk. I also took gas-x, but walking somehow helps your body absorb it faster and this helps get rid of the pain. And the only pills you should be taking is if they prescribed you any, I only got some for nausea that were really small and I fortunately only needed once and the liquid pain killer was very helpful. I was told I could take Aleve also, but always ask your doctor, this is just what my doc said.

  3. Hi all, I was banded 07/09 and went for my check up 07/20 and I asked about the port pain and the nurse said that it's about 2 months before the port soreness goes away :(. My incision area is sort too, but I get the stinging sensation to the right of the incision, so I'm not sure if the port is stitched right under the incision or to the side of it, but it's painful at times. I also found that my pants rubbing against this area is not helping, but at least they are looser, 18 lbs down, woohoo :) Someone on here said they started wearing spanks like a week after their surgery, I have no clue how she does it, I'm all about loose undies and pants/capris. :) I started putting silicone scar strips on my incisions and that helps with the rubbing too. I'm amazed at the difference in wearing these things for 2 days and how the incisions are healing up.

  4. Anyone have any suggestions on an unflavored brand to mix into food? I went into GNC and they only had 2 options. One was Soy which supposedly can mess with your estrogen levels so I'm not even trying that one and the other one was not a whey isolate. I also found out that Optimum Nutrition says whey Isolate, but only has a little bit of the isolates so they are permitted to put this on their label, unfortunateli as I just put in a big order for this.

  5. I'm not sure what instructions your doctor gave you, but specific to Curry they breakdown pureed foods as being a separate phase from mushy foods. That is a lot of liquids, have fun with that. I don't believe you should be doing the ckn salad yet, but per my instructions, I should be, but the instructions are confusing to me. I checked out the lap band allergan web site (which is the one "installed" for lack of a better word :) and they even say 2 weeks liquids, so I'm really worried about why my doc is saying to do pureed already. Hopefully both of us can shed some light on this tomorrow, I decided to do all liquids today until I talk to the dietitian tomorrow. Good luck! :) But like you, I'm having a heck of a time drinking all this liquid, I'm not hungry and feel full easily right now, my stomach must still be swollen.

  6. It's not as bad as it is probably in your head, at least for me it was not. I was really nervous, scared, and hate needles, blood, and all that kind of fun stuff, so even getting the IV was hectic :) But you will get through it and the sooner you get up and walk after surgery the better you will feel. They had me in this chair right after and when I woke up I wanted to cry and then got mad and then cry again, but that's the anesthesia come to find out, I was wondering what in the world was wrong with me. :) I was sore, but not excruciating pain or anything, but when I got up and walked, I felt a hundred times better.

  7. Wtloss, yeah, they said that too. The directions are very confusing and I have stuck to the 20 minute rule because how the directions come across, guess I will have to stick to it until Monday when I contact them. Maybe it's this way since I could start pureed the day after surgery and did not have to do another 2 weeks liquids like I'm seeing others on here have had to do.

  8. Hi, I did struggle and even had the financial person at the office suggest that I do VSG because everyone keeps revising the surgery from lap band to VSG. Ultimately I went with lapband because it's removable. Both parents had stomach issues where surgery was needed and if you have VSG, there is so much scar tissue it's about impossible to get in there and fix what is wrong. I just did not feel comfortable with having my stomach cut out and it's a greater risk.

  9. I think it is meant as additional since they want you to get 60-80 grams of Protein a day because the table says to use Protein Drinks "as needed", the manual is a bit contradictory here and there. You probably have not seen this manual yet and only the little one they give you on the consult day, but make sure you request a copy of the 68 page Surgical Weight Loss Manual after you schedule for your surgery, which I think you have already done if you had your nutrition class. Erin is great! Rebecca is too, but I have always liked any suggestions Erin makes that I would never think of. Ricotta and spaghetti sauce is really good and the refried Beans and chicken broth is really good too, I was surprised, these were mentioned at my nutrition class to use a pureed items.
