  1. I weigh once a week now but I used to weigh everyday and that would drive me insane. Nothing irritated me more than to see a new low and not see that number again for another week or 2 because the scale went back up. For my sanity I have to weigh once a week.
  2. I was wondering if anyone planned on getting a nose job or has had a nose job? I've been really looking into it and have always been insecure about how wide it is. I don't plan on getting a nose job for at least another year or 2 and the size has went down a little since I've started losing weight but I highly doubt it will ever shrink to the size that I want it to. In my culture a nose job is controversial but I'm going to do whats right for me and not worry about what anyone else thinks. Just wondering if there are others who are considering having a nose job once they reach goal. Thanks.
  3. I haven't lost any hair and I will be 6 months post op on the 2nd of April! I get in all my protein and eat a well balanced diet with carbs. I probably get in about 90+ grams of protein a day, usually 80 is the minimum but I mostly end up a little over 100g. I haven't noticed any difference in thickness and I continue to get my hair thinned when I go to the stylist because it's so thick and heavy. I'm not saying that it wont happen eventually but it hasn't happened so far and I still get tons of compliments on it. I also relax and color it every 6-10 weeks.

    shocked

I couldn't imagine living in the spot light and being open about my weight struggles and surgeries. She's very brave to continue to let people into her daily life and struggle but I think unfortunately people use her as an example of why wls is a waste. I feel bad that she is still struggling but I never understood why she went with the lap band. I think she's a spokes person for them. If I was her I would of revised to a DS and not the lap band. It's sad that she's only managed to lose 30 pounds in the year that she's had it in :/

    (considering) Nose job anyone?

I watched this video of this girls recovery and her eyes were black and swollen. I'm not sure if her nose was packed but her after results looked great. A lot of black celebs have had nose jobs and I love the after results particularly the singer Amerie! I love how natural her nose job look. I do not want my nose to look like lil Kim, Michael Jackson, and Latoya Jackson!

    (considering) Nose job anyone?

My father is black and mother is cuban. I feel like it overwhelms my face and if I do get a nose job I wouldn't mention it to my family at all because then they would make assumptions like saying that I want to look white. If I do go through with getting a nose job in a couple of years, then I plan to see a plastic surgeon who specializes in ethnic nose jobs.

    (considering) Nose job anyone?

How was the recovery? I'm sure it was very difficult to breath through your nose until healed. How long for the swelling to go down?

    (considering) Nose job anyone?

My husband told me that I don't need one also lol. To me it's my fathers nose (wide, sorta flat, large nostrils, bulbous), the nose looks perfect on him but I'm not a 6'4 husky dude lol. I took a picture of my hair from above because I wanted to show my highlights and the thing that stood out to me the most was my large nose. A nose job does scare me because it can drastically change your look, especially if it's done wrong and I don't want the pinched look.

    Any regrets

My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner! I wish I would of been open to the idea and possibly had it done at a lower BMI.

    Wings & Spice?

I've been eating hot wings since 1 month post op and haven't had any problems with spicy food. I ate hot wings last night and didn't have any problems
  11. My understanding is the diarrhea comes from getting rid of the fat. The fat doesn't just disappear into mid-air, so we mostly poop or pee it out. Usually around ovulation I get constipated and after ovulation I get very loose stool for a couple of days. I usually see a woosh when the loose stool happens and it stays off. I don't have IBS but going from constipation to having the opposite problem has started happening now that I've been sleeved. I've always had constipation problems before surgery since a very young age and surgery has only made it worse. I now mix fiber powder in my protein shakes to keep me regular and I go every day or two. I drink lots of water

To diet pill or not to diet pill....

If the diet pill worked so well in the past, then why did you need the surgery? Diet pills don't work and there is always bound to be weight gain after stopping them. You know what you have to do to get the weight moving again in the right direction. Eat protein first, drink lots of water, moderate exercise, etc. Maybe start tracking your food intake again. Don't waste your time with diet pills. My sister took those pills and lost 50 pounds and guess what? she gained it all back and then some. My friend was taking another diet pill and now has heart problems from years of using them. She lost a lot of weight while taking them but guess what? Now she's gained back all the weight and then some. She's heavier than ever now. Diet pills don't work, hell if they did I wouldn't of needed weight loss surgery.

    14 months out

Great job on maintaining for the last 3 months Now that you're ready to start losing again, you will need to go back to the basics of Protein first, drink lots of Water, moderate exercise, limiting carbs, etc. Sometimes it's good to take a mental break because usually this allows us time to relax and usually once we start up again we are very motivated. I also need mental breaks every now and then and it recharges my battery and then I usually welcome back the structure of dieting, instead of feeling like I'm in a power struggle with myself. *sorry if that didn't make sense lol* You've done great with your weight loss and this shows that you know what you have to do, in order to get the scale moving. I started using MFP and have been logging my food but not weighing myself. Old habits die hard, and I'm a professional at sabotaging myself. For example: if I see the scale move down, I will feel that I've earned the right to eat ice cream or junk food in general. I have no idea why I do this so I stay away from the scale and now only weigh once a week and not everyday. Get back on the wagon.
  14. Isopure makes some fruity clear protein drinks and they might taste pretty good with some sprite. You can purchase them at GNC or online.
  15. I use chocolate protein powder and the thought of mixing that with sprite makes me want to barf! I personally don't think it would taste good at all to mix protein and a carbonation beverage. I was never a soda drinker and haven't had any soda and I'm almost 6 months post op (not saying that to scold you). I'm one of the rare people who doesn't like the taste of soda and carbonated drinks. I mix my protein powder with skim milk or water........... but soda? BLEH! Drink the diet soda by itself and do the same with the protein shake but I personally would never mix them.

    Every damn morning!

I would wake up puking and gagging also if my last meal was at 6pm. My blood sugar would get low and I would have tons of dizzy spells. Depending on how recently you had surgery, you may need a PPI. I took Nexium for the first month and a half after surgery. I used to wake up nauseous a lot but thankfully I don't anymore.
  17. Alvarez is pretty cute lol. I'm 5 months post op and haven't had any gallbladder issues.
  18. I drink before my meals, so that I'm not thirsty during the meal. It does suck sometimes to drink about 15 oz of water on a empty stomach but I'm able to stay full longer after eating. Also on the rare occasion when I do accidentally drink water during a meal, I feel as if I'm going to barf or get very sick to my stomach. I no longer slip up and if I'm out at a restaurant I drink the glass of water before eating.

    Breastfeeding Post-Op

I had surgery in Oct. 2012 and I'm still nursing several times a day but my milk supply has definitely decreased. I'm having to switch breast. I may look into ways to increase my milk supply but my baby is 17 months old now and I plan to have her fully weaned when she turns 2 yrs old. I've never had supply issues before surgery. Also make sure that getting in fluids is your number one priority. I was thirsty a lot and had to wake up during the night to stay hydrated. Hell I even drank gatorade during the liquid phase because I needed the cals and electrolytes. I know this is a old post but if you have any questions feel free to message me Good Luck

    Breastfeeding mommas!?

I'm still nursing my 17 month old. I was sleeved in October and was trying to wean her before surgery but I only got her down to 4 feedings a day. She turned 1 when I got my surgery and was eating regular food. When I was in the hospital I didn't have any desire to breastfeed and I didn't while I was in there for 2 days but as soon as I came home and was around her my boobs started leaking lol. The whole time in the hospital I didn't become engorged or anything after not nursing for 2 days. I'm still nursing her about 8 times a day (4 times on each breast). My milk supply has definitely decreased because now I have to switch boobs, whereas before surgery I could nurse her on one boob and she'd be stuffed. I do plan to try and make an appt with the NUT to discuss how many cals I should be eating but I doubt my milk supply will pick back up. I never had supply issues before surgery and I'm nursed all 3 of my kids for over a year. I do plan to wean her in the next couple of months and the low supply doesn't bother me because she eats a lot of table food and mostly just nurses for comfort or soothing. If you don't mind your supply decreasing and having to supplement, then definitely get the surgery but I'm glad my baby was 1 when I had the surgery. Good Luck.

    Hair Loss

I haven't lost any hair yet and I'm almost 5 1/2 months post op. I get in my protein, vitamins, water, and carbs. Maybe it will start some day but it hasn't yet. I also don't take biotin but it is in my vitamin that I take about every other day. My weight loss hasn't been super fast either, so maybe that's why.

Hungry or not at all hungry after surgery

I'm 5 months post op and I get hungry especially a week before my period. When my period is over I don't feel hungry but I can tell when I need to eat because I start to feel dizzy or very tired. I eat every 2-3 hours even if I'm not hungry but it only takes a couple of bites before I'm satisfied.
  23. I've had my wisdom teeth removed also but this was my first real surgery and I was freaking out! I rarely have panic attacks but when I was sitting on the bed being hooked up to IV's and they were coming in and out asking me questions before surgery I started to feel anxious. My arms started going numb (this never happened before), I felt like I couldn't breath, etc. I stayed calm but I couldn't stop moving and squirming in the bed. My surgeon said that I was having a panic attack and that he's talk to the anesthesiologist to quickly give me some meds. I felt like I wanted to get out and breath some fresh air but I knew I couldn't because I needed this surgery. Once they gave me the calming meds I was fine. It was like night and day and I was no longer nervous but I was still fully conscious and aware of what was going on. I remember a lot more than my friends did. I remember climbing onto the operating table and them asking if I want my arms strapped down ( I said no and for them to wait until I was knocked out). I remember the mask and the cold air and then drifting off to sleep. The worst part for me is when I woke up soon after surgery and was in a lot of pain. I couldn't stop coughing. I felt like someone had punched me extremely hard in the stomach and it took my breath away. I do feel traumatized by it and I don't EVER want to get surgery again. I know that I will definitely get a breast lift and tummy tuck but I will ONLY do it if I can have them both done at the same time. I don't want to get one procedure and then come back 3 months later and get the other one. If I ever need surgery in the future I will think long and hard and try to find alternative treatments but I don't regret my sleeve surgery because it was the best thing I've ever done.
  24. I go back and forth about being open. There are a lot of people that know and I was open with people on facebook. I got rid of my facebook about 2 months ago (not related to wls), I just got tired of it. My family knows but they live way in Maryland and I live in Colorado. I do get annoyed when people ask how much have I lost, especially since my weight loss is at a healthy rate and no one would ever suspect that I've had wls. I do have a close friend who probably weighs about 350 pounds and she's struggling health wise but I'm trying to figure out how to bring up surgery without me feeling like I'm being judged negatively. I could mention it next time she brings up her weight but it just never seemed appropriate and she doesn't know that I've had surgery. I've only known her for about a month but she's really nice. I always feel that when I tell people they are constantly watching me and judging and I don't like to stand out. Like I said earlier I go back and forth and only talk about it when I feel comfortable but most of the time it just doesn't seem appropriate to announce and now that I'm 5 months post op, I feel like a normal person who is slowly losing weight
  25. I suck at math and have no idea how to figure out the percentage but I started at 260 lbs and today I weighed 213, I want to get down to 145. Oh and I'm 5'3. Great job OP
