    And The Wait Begins

My surgeon doesn't require a pre-op diet but I think the day before surgery you are required to drink some clear liquid that will clear out your system. I might try a 1 week pre-op diet but protein shakes give me horrible constipation so I might have to reconsider.

    Telling People

I told my mom a couple of weeks ago that I was having surgery because I wanted her to fly here and take care of me. Yesterday I found out that my mom had told my sister and I'm very pissed about it. I'm a very private person and when people tell me their secrets, I don't talk about it with anyone else. I'm extremely loyal and trust is a huge thing with me. My family is extremely gossipy and they just can't keep their mouths shut and I had to set my mom straight yesterday about the fact that I HATE how she feels the need to share my business with our family members. Nothing is ever sacred between me and her, I just let her know how hurt I was and the fact that I can't confide in her and this has hurt me deeply. It took a while for her to understand where I was coming from but I'm pretty sure my whole family knows by now. My family knowing doesn't even bother me but it's the fact that I trusted my mom to keep this between me and her. She has a history of sharing everything with my sister and this caused a huge blow up yesterday and I suspect my sister is a little jealous because she struggles with her weight also, even though she is about 30 lbs lighter than me. *sorry about my vent*

    Smokeranalyzer Test

My surgeon does a blood test right before surgery to see if you've been smoking. I was never a smoker and the last time I tried a cig was way back in 2001, I was about 16yrs old. OP good luck on quitting. The surgeon is looking out for your best interest because it's not safe to operate on a person who smokes. My uncle was a smoker for probably 30+ yrs and he passed away from lung cancer a couple of months ago. They did offer him surgery but unfortunately the cigs had a hold of him and he just couldn't stop, even when he knew that the surgery could possibly save his life. I never realized how addictive cigs could be until then
  11. Met with the psych on Saturday! I officially have 4 more appts before I get my surgery date :)

Revised Goal Or Giving Up? W/ Pics

I was worried about being honest until I read this post. I skipped straight to what I thought was the after pic (3rd pic) and I was like huh lol. Then I looke at the 1st pic and realized that more than likely the 1st pic was the after pic and you look FABULOUS! I think you will ultimately have to decide whether or not you want to keep going but you look AMAZING.

    I Want To Cry... :(

Since my husband is in the Army I can have surgery on the Army base (MTF) and the MTF can set up it's own requirements. If I were to have my surgery done outside of the military base then I would have to do the 6 month supervised diet because Tricare is making it a requirement. Usually the process on the military base where we are stationed takes about 3 months from the time of the referral to actual surgery. I'm only 1 week into the process and tomorrow I will be attending my 4th appt. and the only thing that's not been easy is scheduling the appt with the psychiatrist, they've been horrible and saying that they will call back and not doing so. If everything goes as planned I should be done with all the appts. by early to mid Sept. I'm hoping I can have surgery in October.

    I Want To Cry... :(

I'm sorry to hear that your insurance requires 6 month diet, that would suck so bad. My surgeon doesn't require the supervised diet because he believes that most people who seek wls do so as a last resort and they've mostly tried every single diet out there.

    Caring For Child After Surgery

I can so relate to your anxiety. I have a 8yo, 5yo, and soon to be 10 month old. Thankfully my 2 oldest will be in full day school and that will allow me to rest but my doc said that he wants me up and moving after surgery. He doesn't want me to lay around because he fears blood clots. I do plan on taking his advice and staying active while listening to my body. My husband works about 12-13 hrs a day, 5 days a week so he wont be that much help but I'm just gonna do my best. Good luck
  16. Three appts this week! I meet with the NUT and I have 2 metabolic test this week :)

    Anybody In Their 20's

I will be 28 in Sept. and I'm hoping I can get sleeved sometime in Oct. My husband leaves for school at the end of Oct. and I don't want to wait 3 months for him to return. Most of my pre-op appts should be done by the middle of Sept. and I don't have to do the 6 month diet because my surgeon thinks it's pointless because most people have tried several weight loss plans and he doesn't see the point in putting obese patients through that stress again. My surgery will be on a military facility, so I dont have to deal with insurance (Tricare). I'm wishing all of you luck and add me as a friend if you want
  19. I meet with my NUT on Wednesday and I'm sure they will give me a goal weight of 140-150. I haven't weighed 140 since my freshmen year of high school. I would Love to get down to 125-130 but it all depends on what my body wants. I'm 5'3 1/4 and I doubt I would look unhealthy or too skinny at 125.
  20. I told my mom that I was having wls and it went really well, she's being very supportive

  22. Met with the surgeon today and I'm feeling great about my decision. The next few weeks will be hard but they said the process should take about 1.5 months to attend all of my appts.

  23. I weighed about 190-195 in my avatar pic. I think I was a size 36I or H in my avatar pic. I'm also breastfeeding right now so they tend to be a cup size larger, unfortunately, but once I stop they should shrink down to a J possibly.
  24. I was told that I was approved for surgery last week and since then I've been scared. I honestly don't understand why but I think mentally I've been heavy for so long that I'm kind of scared about what will happen to this (me) person I know once I'm smaller. I obviously want to lose weight and be healthy but I find myself fearful of the unknown. Heck I haven't been a healthy weight since 2000! My insurance moves very quickly and I guess I feel as if I haven't had enough time to mentally prepare myself for the new me. I guess this is why some psychiatrist stress the need for continued visits even after the surgery. I think my fear stems from the fact that for years I've been trying to lose weight and I'm feeling defeated, which I think is totally normal. Even though I'm scared of the unknown, I do plan to push forward with the surgery because I've read a lot of times on this board that a lot of the fears go away once the surgery is over and done with. Good Luck OP

My Hubby Keeps Eating My Food!

My husband eats food that i would normally eat and sometimes I eat his food. Usually we take a mental note of things that tend to get eaten up quickly and then we buy more of it. We also have 3 kids so everyone eats everyones food. I can't even eat the food off of my plate without my 9.5 month old wanting some, I'm lucky if I can eat every single bite on my plate without having to share it. This has been going on for 9yrs and I'm used to it but I'm sure in the beginning I hated it. My husband would much rather eat a salad that I cooked for myself, rather than make his own. He's that way with fruit also, I can probably count on 1 hand the amount of times that I've seen him get his own fruit from the frig but usually when he sees me with fruit he will ask can he have some or ask me to cut him up some watermelon while I'm getting mine. Sometimes it's annoying but over time I've become more tolerant and today when I was eating leftover hamburger with cheese and salsa, I asked him if he wanted some when he walked past and of course he takes 2 big spoonfuls lol. I've become so used to sharing that I usually ask him if he wants some of my food . Sorry for the endless rambling
