    Single Incision Question

I'm glad I found this post because the single incision is exactly what I plan to get. My torso is short so I doubt he will have any problems. I am worried about the increased risk of hernia but he also said that I could get a hernia with the regular 5 incisions also. My surgery is in 2 weeks

    October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

I don't have a pre-op diet but 2 days before surgery I will have to drink clear liquids but if I get too hungry they said I can have a protein shake. The magnesium that I have to take the day before surgery will make me crap my brains out. I'm not looking forward to the magnesium and I heard it taste awful. My surgeon has been asking me what type of incision (5 incisions or 1 incision through the belly button). I plan to just have them go through my belly button because then I will only have to worry about 1 incision healing. He says it's mostly about anesthetics but he says the decision is up to me.

Not too much longer. I meet with the surgeon and the anesthesiologist next week. I'm sure they will give me the magnesium to drink and the soap to bathe with the day of and before surgery. I know the day of I will be extremely nervous but I'm sure it will be so worth it in the end.

    Sleevers With Small Kids

I haven't been sleeved yet but I had 3 kids and my youngest will be 12 months old the day I get sleeved. My husband will be helping me that first week. I gave birth to our 3rd child was he was deployed and while the recovery sucked I learned that I can handle anything if I just take my time. A month after I get my surgery my husband will be leaving for training for about 6 weeks. I'm sure you will be fine just don't over work yourself
  5. My husband has been very supportive so he was the first person to know that I was considering VSG. I told my mom who at the time seemed supportive, she in turn told my sister and I'm sure the whole family knows by now. I actually feel a huge relief because theres nothing to hide. I haven't really told anyone that I live around because it just never came up but if they ask me what I've done to lose the weight I will more than likely tell. I have made friends with others who are having wls and that's great because if we all go out to eat there wont be any pressure to finish our plate or order dessert.

I'm nervous also lol but I'm just so ready to get it over with. I'm wondering how much my sex life will change after the surgery, heck my husband can't keep his hands off of me now lol

Skinnieminnie-I can't believe those people said that. I've also experienced the pain of words when it comes to my weight and it sucks so bad. My mom made a comment about my weight when I was about 17yrs old and it cut me to the core. People don't realize how hurtful words can be. I've been struggling with my weight for almost 10yrs. I'e cried on my husband shoulders many nights and I always hated being the fat wife in a group of friends. I'm really looking forward to this surgery also. I think my mom is a little jealous because she hasn't been texting me since I told her about me getting surgery and the one day that we did text she started unnecessary drama between me and my sister :/ I just know that I can't please everyone and I can no longer put my needs on the back burner

I also have tons of size 14s in my closet that I haven't worn in years lol. I'm currently a size 18. I'm looking forward to getting back into my skinny clothes and I'm praying even those will become big at some point. I would love to be a size 4/6.

    Time is finally speeding up
  11. I've experienced hair loss around the 4 month mark after giving birth to all 3 of my kids. It did suck and it mostly happened around my face but it did eventually grow back. I'm expecting the same type of hair loss after surgery and it's completely normal. The thing that worked for me was getting a shoulder length bob haircut with side swept bangs. No one even noticed that my hair was thinning a little and when I pointed it out most would shrug their shoulders like they couldn't even tell because they couldn't. You will notice the hair loss but most others wont. I have very thick hair and it was weird being able to see my scalp but it really wasn't that big of a deal looking back. You will be fine

Why Must This Be So Hard With Tricare?

I'm at Fort Carson and they have been performing sleeves on the base for a couple of years now. On post we dont have to worry about tricare because the surgeon decideds the requirements. Also I didn't have to worry about the 6 month surpervised diet and didn't have any hoops to jump through. The process has taken a little under 2 1/2 months total. I started the process late July and will be having surgery in a couple of days. Good Luck

I'm 100% ready for the surgery and I'm going through the normal pre-surgery jitters. I'm just thinking way too much into things I'm gonna look into the other stuff that you posted about dry mouth. I'm the type of person who sleeps with a glass of water next to my bed and I tend to drink it through out the night, so it's gonna be kind of weird not being allowed to drink for 24hrs but I know I will be fine. Also there is this active private group on FB called "achieving through sleeving". It's private and none of your comments will appear on your timeline and none of your friends will be able to see your post. It's a great group and it has lots of before and after pics, very inspiring.

Thanks so much for helping calm my nerves I've given birth twice without pain meds and it wasn't that bad. I think my problem is that I've been reading up on the things that could go wrong and it's taking me out of my positive attitude. I guess the thing for me to do is not read post that are about complications because they really make me nervous and worried. Plus the fact that my surgeon doesn't allow any liquids after surgery for the first 24 hrs is kind of scary because I hate when my mouth is dry because it makes me feel like my throat is swelling and it just adds to my anxiety. It would be nice if they would allow me to swish water around my mouth but I'm sure after surgery I may be too busy just trying to sleep, rather than drink. IDK lol I'm just think way too much into things. I'm gonna take a long walk tomorrow to try and help calm my nerves, plus exercise helps keeps my anxiety down.
  15. the anxiety is finally setting in :/

  16. Also to answer your question, I've read that a lot of birth control isn't as effective as it was with the old stomach.
  17. My baby girl will be 2 days shy of 12 month old (1yr old) when I get my surgery. My surgeon didn't ask me how old my youngest was but he did ask me if I planned to have more kids, and I replied with a big "hell no" lol. My husband was snipped about a month ago. I do know this other lady whose baby will be about 7 months old when she gets gastric bypass. I guess it all depends on the insurance and the surgeons requirements.

Yesterday i was having doubts, I'm just worried about waking up in excruciating pain that isn't easily controlled with pain meds. I have a high tolerance when it comes to pain but I still find myself getting nervous.
  19. My process has taken about 9 weeks, a little under 2 1/2 months. I wasn't required to do the supervised diet because my surgeon doesn't think it's necessary.

    Couldnt Do Surgery-Liver Size

I agree with everyone who said that your surgeon is possibly inexperienced and doesn't feel comfortable operating when the person has a large liver. I can't believe that they wouldn't offer you any pain meds. I would definitely consider finding another surgeon because what if everything doesn't go text book perfect? Will he freak out and not know how to tackle simple obstacles. My surgeon doesn't require a preop diet, maybe it's because he's knows how to work around the "fatty liver" but from what I've read my surgeon has been a wls surgeon for the past 10+ yrs. Hopefully your liver will shrink to the size that your surgeon is asking. Good Luck

Was Anyone Not Put On Pre Op Diet?

I don't have to do a pre-op diet and i think my BMI is around 41. My surgeon has had tons of experience so I guess he's doesn't worry about liver size *shrugs*

I will get my surgery date and then the countdown begins 10/2-MY SURGERY DATE!!!!!! I'm so excited My checklist was fairly simple and I didn't have to do a sleep study or the endoscopy (sp?). My surgeon doesn't require the 6 month diet, so the process has been very quick.
  23. They will be performing my surgery at the bariatric clinic on the Army base where my husband works and it's part of the package for all people who undergo weight loss surgery. They will be performing a tummy tuck and breast lift on me after I get to my weight goal. My friend had a tummy tuck about 8 months after her sleeve surgery, she weighed about 123 lbs and in a couple of months she will have her boobs done. We don't have to get approval for plastics through our insurance company (Tricare), our Army base makes up the requirements and everyone who has underwent wls can get plastics if that's what they want. They also do other elective procedures like taking the excess skin off your bicep/arms. My surgeon understands the benefits of plastics and the fact that excess skin can cause issues such as infections and plus having excess skin can cause self esteem issues or the need to wear girdles (sp?) or spanks for the rest of your life. I think it would be great if all insurances covered plastics. I think my aunts insurance covered plastics also but this was back in 2003 and I think a lot of insurance companies covered it at the time

    Preop Diet Or Not?

I'm not required to do a pre-op diet either. We did get a huge binder that mentioned a 2 week liquid diet but at the support group meeting everyone says that it's not required and when I met with the surgeon he didn't mention me doing a diet either before surgery. Supposedly they have us drink a clear liquid the day before surgery and this will help flush out our intestines but that's pretty much it. I'm happy about not doing the liquid diet because my blood sugar dips a lot, plus I need energy from food in order to deal with my 3 crazy kiddos.
  25. I feel like a kid who is going to disneyland. I'm feeling very impatient and can't wait for it to be my turn. I do worry about how permanent it is to have part of my stomach removed and then tossed in the trash but I've read lots of bad things about the remnant stomach that is left over from the rny and I think it's a good thing that I don't have to worry about it causing problems. As you can tell I'm overly excited about having this surgery and the fact that plastics (cosmetic surgery) is part of the package, I'm stocked
