    Sleeve Experiences - Negative?

I was sleeved almost 2 weeks ago and I haven't had any complications *knock on wood*. I did have regrets soon after surgery because I was in so much pain and couldn't stop vomiting but the 2nd day after surgery was when I started feeling back to normal. I'm eating soft foods and I did feel a little sad when I couldn't finish my plate but I knew if I did attempt to shove one more bite in my mouth I would of puked. Today I haven't felt sad about not being able to eat a lot and I'm doing what a lot of the veterans said which is to work on the head stuff now. I made a small can of tuna with 2 whole eggs and light mayo and I was only able to eat 1/4 of it over the course of a day. Once I'm satisfied I wrap it up and put it in the frig. It's weird being able to walk away from food but it's getting better everyday I have zero regrets.
  2. Maybe try some regular gatorade, your electrolytes might be out of balance. I had the same symptoms but I'm breastfeeding and I needed something with calories. Hopefully you will feel better soon. Also what are you eating? Protein shakes?
  3. I'm only drinking water but right after surgery I was drinking gatorade because I needed to electrolytes to keep my milk supply up
  4. I just noticed that you're only a couple of days post op. It will get easier over time. I was struggling to get in fluids also but now it's gotten easier. Just give it time
  5. I'm wondering if I read that correctly also :/ OP what is your height?
  6. What are you drinking Tiffani? Have you tried broth or something with electrolytes like gatorade? Water tends to be so hard for me to drink for some reason but I've been forcing myself to drink it.
  7. I'm dealing with a flood of emotions but I'm remaining calm. I'm gonna miss my kids and husband but I told them this is my long overdue mini vacation lol. Keep me in your prayers plz I will try to update you all on how I'm feeling after the surgery but I'm expecting for it to be a fairly easy recovery. Have a good day everyone.

    Ketosis & Carbs

I guess I should add that my applesauce isnt sugar free, mine is the cinammon kind Motts brand.
  10. Sounds yummy So happy to see I'm not the only person eating regular food. My friend told me that I wouldn't be able to eat ground beef and chicken because my sleeve wouldn't like it but both of them went down fine. I was very worried when I was pre-op about not being able to eat red meat because I didn't want my Iron to go low and I've had nothing but horrible experience with iron pills in the past. I ate a baked drumstick last night and it took me about 3 hrs to eat it all but it felt good to be able to eat my Protein and I didn't have any stomach issues.

    Ketosis & Carbs

I've been eating apple sauce since i was in the hospital. They told me to take my nexium with it. OP I'm the same as you, if my carbs are too low then I start to feel very faint and break out into a cold sweat. Some people are able to do very low carb 10g or less and I can't. Yesterday I had about 47g of carbs and I tend to feel good around that level. My NUT says to eat protein first and to eat a well balanced diet of carbs, fats, and protein.
  12. I've been eating soft foods since 6 days post op. Some consider it cheating but Protein shakes were making my side hurt. I just chew my food up very well and haven't had any problems. I eat 1 egg for Breakfast and focus on eating protein first. I'm getting in about 400-600 cals a day. My food didn't hurt when it went down and I haven't had any pain.

    Donate Excess Skin

I wasn't even worried about the free surgery because I would donate my excess skin even if I had to pay full price for the surgery. I figure they are going to throw it away anyways, so if they can put it to good use then that would be great.
  14. Ashley-I'm so sorry to hear that. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that you feel better soon.

Which Way Do I Go? Sleeve Or Bypass

The deciding factor for me when I had to choose between RNY or the sleeve, was the pyloric valve. With the RNY they have a man made stoma that can stretch and food can become stuck if not chewed to a puree, plus the stoma can stretch out if you overeat too often. I don't trust the man made stoma because it can never mimic what the natural pyloric valve could. Also I don't want to deal with dumping and hyperglycemia. Plus having to take tons of vitamins is not something I want to deal with for the rest of my life. Malabsorption doesn't sound appealing at all to me. Good Luck with your decision.

I would definitely donate my excess skin if I were given the choice.

    Does Vsg=Lactose Intolerance?

I drink whole milk and haven't had any problems. I plan to buy skim milk or 1% milk when I go grocery shopping again. I haven't had any problems with milk

    Muscle Milk

I'm breastfeeding so I have to make sure I get in the protein and calories or else I start to feel very lethargic.

    Very Cold

My blood work is fine also and I'm cold. My husband said that I'm burning up the house because I turned the heat up to 76 degrees instead of the normal 74. I used to sleep with only a thin sheet over me and the fan blowing on me. NOW I sleep buried under the comforter and snuggled up against my husband so that he can keep me warm. I used to always be hot and sweaty but not now. I'm so happy not to be sweaty like I used to be.
  20. Loving my sleeve and I was able to continue to breastfeed :)

    Muscle Milk

Muscle milk is the only protein shake that I will drink. I buy it in powder form because the pre-made drinks tend to taste different and not as good. They also have a light version and it's very good also. I buy the regular MM and add 1 scoop to 8 oz of milk. It's by far the best tasting protein shake I've ever tasted and I've tasted several different kinds.

    Scared To Weigh

I don't own a scale but sometimes I do want to know the number but I figured this is less stressful than obsessing over every single pound lost or temporarily gained.
  23. I wish I could drink 12 oz at a time. I'm breastfeeding and can only get in small amounts of fluid at a time and I miss being able to drink 15 oz of water in 5 mins. I also have to wake up and drink water at night to get in more fluids :/
  24. Are you able to drink 12 oz at a time? I was able to drink 1 cup of water in a hour but when I tried to do it again I was only able to drink about 1/2 cup in a hour. I've been able to eat eggs cooked with cheese and ham (lunch meat) and haven't had any problems. It took me all day to eat 2 scrambled eggs. I'm definitely feeling the restriction. I can't drink anymore protein shakes because they make the left side of my stomach hurt. It's getting easier to get my fluids in but I can only sip or take small gulps and then wait a minute or two before drinking more.
