  1. My weight loss has been a stair step pattern and sometimes I gain. After being on these forums for a while I've learned that it's normal and to be patient and that's what I've always done. You will start to lose again. I've kept track of my carbs for the past couple of days and I'm eating around 100-140g of carbs and I need that so I can continue to have a productive workout. Are you exercising? If not then start, if so then switch it up! I don't agree with starving yourself in order to lose the weight or that you need to cut out a whole food group. I don't plan on eating low carb for the rest of my life, so why do it to lose weight. I'd much rather learn to eat a balanced diet and continue to lose at the rate I am, than to crash diet to the finish line and then panic once I realize that I can't maintain my very strict "diet" that helped me lose the weight. Carbs aren't bad and they do much better at fueling a workout. I actually found a really good article on obesityhelp.com http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/fitness/Weight-Loss-Surgery-Carbohydrate-and-Exercise.html I'm very thankful that my NUT believes in a balanced diet.

    New Shoes

I went to REI and picked out some trail shoes but I have no idea what brand they are. They give me a lot of grip and cushion from rocks

    24 hour fitness group classes

I take a indoor cycling (spinning) class twice a week and boy do my legs burn after lol. I think the hardest part was finding a instructor that I liked, too many of them seem to be like Jillian Michaels and I can't stand that woman and all the yelling. I wear padded capris to my class and that seems to help but towards the end I start to feel a little sore in the crotch area. You can also buy those special seats. I purchased indoor cycling shoes also and it makes it so much easier to sprint and stand up. I do want to try zumba one of these days

where to get the best sports bra

I have LARGE breast and I've been using the enell sports bra for the past several years! It's the best sports bra for women with large breast. Thank goodness I was watching Oprah that day and she endorsed this bra and they sold out within a few days lol. I refuse to exercise without it. I used to wear about 3 of those cheap sports bras and they still bounced. Enell is definitely the way to go.....oh and they last for years! My first enell bra lasted about 2 years before the hooks started straightening out but my boobs were a 36i. I've had my current enell bra for about 2 yrs now and I still get support and containment I'm a 36K now and the enell hasn't let me down

When do u get to work out?

I started walking around 3 weeks post op. I started with just walking 1 mile and that kicked my butt and I slowly added on another mile and now I'm up to walking 3 miles, 3 times a week and taking 2 spinning classes. I've always loved workout and I was a obese runner for a while before surgery but now that the weight is coming off it's so much easier. My advice is to start slow and then slowly add on. I also had to up my carbs once I added on more exercise, so that I don't hit a wall halfway through the workout. I keep my carbs around 100g and that seems to be the happy medium where I still lose weight and I can have the energy to kick butt during my workouts

    Hair Loss

I haven't lost any hair yet (knock on wood) and I was sleeved Oct. 2nd. Since my sleeve surgery I've dyed it three times, relaxed it twice, and had highlights put in. I've always done a lot to my hair when it comes to chemicals and my hair is so thick that most people think it's fake. My hair is the healthiest its ever been.....thick, shiny, soft, etc. I eat a lot of protein and still drink about 2 protein shakes a day. I get about 100+ grams (sometimes 150 grams) of protein a day and I eat about 100g of carbs a day. I take my vitamins when I remember which is about twice a week and I just added a iron pill and take that about once a week or whenever I start to feel a little tired. I may start losing in a month or 2 but so far I haven't noticed a difference in my hair at all. I've been reaching my protein goals since 1 month post op. Sixty grams of protein is the minimum but I think most people need around 90 grams or more, depending on how active you are. I also refuse to take biotin because supposedly it makes you grow more unwanted hair all over your body and I'm dealing with that enough lol. My advice is to up your protein, possibly aim for 100 grams.
  7. I've noticed the same thing with myself and my hair looks very healthy also. I've been meeting my protein goals since 1 month post op and I'm almost 4 months post op. I haven't lost any hair and haven't experienced any thinning (knock on wood). I still drink 2 protein shakes a day and get around 100+g of protein a day. Oh and I don't take biotin because I heard it will make you grow some unwanted hair and I already see an electrolysis every 2 weeks to get rid of the couple of strands on my chin :/

    Lighten up a little...

Not wanting to keep the Nazi thing going but I've heard it used in other context such as "breastfeeding nazi". I don't use the term but I never associated it with the holocaust but maybe this is a generational thing since I'm 28 yrs old and born long after the holocaust. I also play a lot of video games and I've heard every racial slur out there and over the years I've become used to them. Most people are surprised to learn that I'm Jewish because I'm half black and cuban lol. I do think OP topic has morphed into a huge deflection over the use of the word "nazi". *shrugs* I actually agreed with a lot of what Mason had to stay and I hope he or she stays around longer
  9. I drink 2 isopure protein shakes a day and have less cravings when I do that. I've realized a while ago that I will probably drink at least 1 protein shake for the rest of my life I mix my protein shakes with milk so that I can get in my calcium also. I do continue to eat protein throughout the day. Yesterday I got around 150g of protein, which is kind of high but I also workout, lift weights, and breastfeed.

    Lighten up a little...

OP I so agree! and that's probably one of the main reasons why I don't visit VST as often as I used to. The all or nothing approach has never worked for me in the past and it wont work for me now but I don't feel like dealing with the judgement so I keep my thoughts and daily diet to myself. On most diet forums there always seems to be the type who preach all or nothing and then several people chime in about how perfect they are yada yada and it seems to be the same on this site also. I don't get involved in the drama on any site because it's pointless. I've also been private messaged about certain things that people don't want to get flamed about. I also find myself smh when people imply that you will die if you eat a piece of cake a month after surgery. Some places start you back on regular food while in the hospital. I tend not to vent my frustration because it's pointless.

    6wks Postop and obsessed sex

For some reason on my laptop I can't see your text or what you've typed and it looks like a blank space until I highlight it *shrugs* lol. Hopefully the naughty emails will work but just don't act on your feelings of wanting sex or to feel the embrace of a man. Stay strong

Also why are you using invisible text? I had to highlight it in order to see it.

    6wks Postop and obsessed sex

OP is this your first deployment? I've been on this military wife roller coaster for a little over 9 yrs. I haven't dealt with any addictions so I can't relate to you on that level. Also in my wild days before I became married I would have no strings attached sex and I always felt empty afterwards. Alcohol makes me black out and it sucks when you're still up and moving around but yet you don't remember a damn thing. One night this older guy (15 yrs older than me) took advantage of me during one of my black outs and I've never been the same when it comes to randomly hooking up with people. I have zero desire to be with anyone but my husband. When it comes to intercourse I need the man to actually love me and care about my needs and all that other mushy stuff and that's not something you can get from a one night stand. I'm glad I had my wild moments but now I don't even find it tempting at all. I burn off a lot of my energy through exercise, oh and I have 3 kiddos who kick my butt every day lol

    6wks Postop and obsessed sex

My husband is getting ready for our 4th deployment late Fall We've had 3-12 month long deployments and my sex drive always goes crazy as soon as he leaves. Vibrators are okay but like OP I love the touch and feel of the whole man and not just the penor part KWIM lol. Plus vibrators desensitize me and that sucks because once you have the real thing it maybe harder to orgasm. My husband went to the field today and wont be back until early February but we had sex last night, so I'm good for a while and ovulation was a couple of days ago and usually that makes me so frickin horny. Congrats on your weight loss

Soreness after workout, continue next day?

This is another reason why I lift weights on Friday because usually I'm very sore afterwards. I'm usually sore until Mon-Tuesday. I lift heavy and boy do my muscles burn but I love the way my body looks after lifting. I prefer to lift once a week and do a full body workout. I do cardio 4-5 days a week.
  16. My NUT doesn't want us doing low carb either, especially if you exercise on a regular basis. I can't exercise on low carb and from my google searches there seems to be a lot of other people who can't also. I need carbs for the energy and plus they help me sleep, whereas low carb gives me insomnia and I have 3 kids to deal with......... I need my sleep. My carbs are probably between 50-120g a day, I don't keep track of anything because it makes me obsessive. I do listen to my body and I've never been a binge eater and I'm rarely hungry now. You don't have to eat low carb in order to lose weight. I'm not saying to eat a ton of carbs but carbs aren't as evil as some try to make it out to be.

    Weight lifting questions

I think I waited until about 7-8 weeks but I'm not quite sure since it's been a while. I lift about once a week and lift heavy weights. I'm still sore from my Friday weight lifting session :/
  18. Fluffylibra- I'm gonna try upping my water to see what happens.

    alcohol

About to sip on some vodka and diet cranberry juice while playing halo 3 I'll usually make a tall glass and that's all I drink. I try to drink after a couple of hours after eating and not eat after but drink tons of water before I go to bed.

    Exercise?

I wog (jog/walk) 3 5k's a week and take 2 spinning classes a week, so I workout 5 days a week but yet I'm a slow loser. I do think it's because I'm not eating enough and plus I'm breastfeeding. It's hard to up your calories when you're not hungry at all. I need to start eating every 2 hours.

    October Sleevers-How Ya Doin?

No hair loss for me yet *knock on wood*. I haven't been doing anything special other than taking my vitamins, getting in protein, 60+ oz of fluids, and exercising. My weight loss has been so slooow though.

    Wavering...sleeve or plication?

I actually like being cold instead of hot and sweaty like I was in the past. My memory is about the same but sometimes it is hard to remember but that's why I have a calendar in my phone to keep track of important dates lol. *I had to go back and look at your other concerns lol*. I'm not sleep deprived and sleep fairly well but I have to eat a carb before I go to bed because I can't sleep if my body is in ketosis. Also my anxiety is under control because I exercise regularly. Exercise has always helped me not feel anxious and stressed. My memory has always been a little off but I've always made it a habit to write important things down, just like a shopping list for grocery shopping, I'd be lost without it lol. My advice is get the sleeve and not the plication
  23. I took my dog walking around the 3 week mark. She's my favorite walking buddy. She's 3.5 yrs old and doesn't pull on the leash but it took lots of training and trying different things to get her to walk beside me. I also used a couple of Cesar Milan's techniques. The thing that I've found to be most effective is a no pull harness that latches in front of her chest, below her neck. Whenever she tries to pull it turns her to where she is facing me. I also wrap the leash around me so that I can walk with my hands free. The more you take your dog for a walk the more they tend to become more calm. My dog is a great pyrenees. Labs are very hyper and I've heard of a lot of people having to ride bikes while their dog jogs beside them, this is the reason why I made sure to get a lazy dog lol but she loves to walk. My dog weighs about 85 lbs and the no pull harness works so well.
  24. When was your last shot with depo? It takes forever for that stuff to leave your system and more than likely that's the reason why you're not losing weight. I gained 40+ pounds on depo and so have countless others.
