  1. It's normal to mourn the loss of our favorite foods or alcohol. I was miserable being obese. I felt like the weight was a handicap holding me back from life, having a big full life. I made a list of all the things I was missing out on. As we all know life is very difficult being obese. Today I have a new perspective about food. Those foods that I loved caused me harm and kept me fat, miserable and alone. A piece of cake won't make me happy or bring me joy. Eating clean is an act of self love and I want to start respecting my body instead of stuffing it with food that is harmful to me.
  2. The purpose of the liquid diet is for healing not losing weight. If you so concerned you drink more shakes, nothing will happen to you either way. Weight loss will come.
  3. I really wouldn't worry about losing weight right now as you are in the healing stage. Most of the weight we lose on liquid diets is water anyway and not fat. Try to get more protein in so you feel satiated, I don't know that you will be satisfied from a protein shake. Find one that tastes delicious. I suggest Chocolate Proto Whey BNRG. It tastes like a milkshake!
  4. It will only be like that for the first couple of days and then you will be able to drink more in less time! I couldn't drink more than 1 protein shake for the first 3 days.
  5. I had 2 week pre-op liquid diet and then 20 days post op liquid diet. I lost 19 lbs but its mostly water; thats what my doctor said. I don't really see much of a difference either. Perhaps if I were 300 or 400 lbs I would have lost more, so it really depends on your start weight. What I'm most concerned with is fat loss. I don't want to lose any muscle therefore the scale is misleading. You don't know if your losing fat, Water or muscle. From what I've heard/read the real fat loss comes after you've had fills. Right now you should try to walk as much as you can! Good Luck!

    Breakfast

My Dr. told me to stay away from bread however I've heard that toasted bread is ok. Flour/bread is a trigger for me so I'm going to avoid it. It has no nutritional value anyway.

    No Appetite .. Normal?

This is right on point! What a gift it is to NOT be hungry! I feel so desensitized to food!
  8. I agree with what everyone said. Drink tons of water, take a walk, do anything to get your mind off of food. Cravings pass and our thoughts are not commands. You can get through this, we all did! Good luck!
  9. Absolutely see a difference! You must FEEL lighter as well. I've lost 20 lbs and I don't really see a difference at all but I feel lighter and don't have this big stomach in the way anymore. Plus I have no more lower back pain when I walk!

    Need Help With Cravings!!

Sugar free pudding, popsicles and sugar free hot chocolate sound terrific. I don't think any of us should be eating chocolate after weight loss surgery. It's self sabotage.

    1 Day Post Op

Yes this is completely normal, I experienced the same thing. I'm 2 weeks post op and I still don't have an appetite. You need to stay hydrated and drink as much fluids as possible even if take a while. Sip sip sip!
  12. I was on clear liquids 24 hours after surgery and then 10 days on thin liquids and then 10 days on full liquids. I stuck to protein shakes and soups on my liquid diets.

    No Appetite .. Normal?

I'm 2 weeks post op and have no appetite as well. I eat 3 meals even though I'm not hungry. You need to eat and to get more protein in. I'm in the mushies phase too I eat plain fage greek yogurt, 1% whipped cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, and tilapia.
  14. Is 1 cup of food, 8 oz of food on a food scale? For example: 3 oz of Protein, 3 oz of veggies, 2 oz grain/starch? Or is it food that has been cut into small pieces and stuffed into a 1 cup measuring cup? Please don't tell me to ask the nutritionist at my surgeon's office. I did and her response was "meant as a guide or a rule of thumb – you don’t need to take”1 cup” too literally. You should listen to your body and stop eating when you feel full. The band helps us to feel full from less food (generally about a cup of food, volume wise)". Please advise. Thank you!

    Need Help With Cravings!!

Sugar is a drug for me. If I have a little one day, I want it the next day and the next day. I'm 4 weeks off sugar now and I find I have no cravings for it because its not in my body. Chocolate is empty calories and is preventing you from losing weight.

    Mushies :)

I'm in the soft/pureed food stage right now. I haven't been pureeing or blending any food nor eating baby food. I've pretty much been eating the same thing day in day out. I eat plain greek yogurt for breakfast, 2 scrambled eggs with 1 slice low fat cheese for lunch and grilled tilapia with mashed potatoes for dinner. I'm looking forward to eating solid food on Sunday! I would strongly suggest mashing carrots or spinach to help move your bowels. I've been really constipated since my surgery.
  17. You don't want to to lose weight so quickly then you will have loose skin. I've found lifting weights prevents loose skin and stretch marks.

yogurt parfait- 6 oz greek yogurt, 1/2 cup berries, 1/4 cup dry oatmeal mix all together! Quick, easy and decadent.

    Calorie Intake

I agree with everyone. I could barely drink anything the first 3 days after surgery, I called the doctor too. Try to get at least 2 protein shakes a day as you can take in more fluids. Protein is vital after surgery.

    Still Hungry

Drink tons of water! Sometimes we mistake hunger for thirst!

    Starting Mushys Today

I'm also on the pureed food stage. I tried pureed/blended food its nasty and looks like throw up. This is what I eat. Breakfast- 6 oz plain greek yogurt Lunch- 2 scrambled eggs with 1 slice low fat cheese Dinner- 2 oz of grilled tilapia with 1/2 cup of plain mashed potatoes. If I'm hungry hours after dinner I will have 1/2 cup of 1% whipped cottage cheese

Should I tell my OA food sponsor?

I've been struggling in OA for four years. I know that OA works it just hasn't worked for me yet. I broke up with my sponsor before I got banded a little less than two weeks ago. I'm apprehensive to tell any of my OA friends share at meetings for fear of judgement. I hope I can find a sponsor who will work with me knowing that I have the band.
  23. Hi Everyone! I'm currently on the pureed diet. I was told that rice, Pasta, bread, steak, and chicken breast does not work well with the band. Does that apply to after the first fill? Right now my band is open, I have little restriction. I really would like to have sushi when I enter the next phase of eating solid foods. Please advise. Thanks!
  24. Thanks guys! I'm going to avoid pasta and bread as they are high in calories and have little nutritional value. When I consume flour or sugar I want MORE so I'm going to abstain from flour and sugar. I really want sushi though!!!!
  25. Right after fills liquid for 2 days and pureed for 3 days. When my band is open like it is now will it tolerate the foods that are prohibited after fills?
