What was your first pureed meal?
bmbrush413 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I jumped the gun a little and tried puree tonight instead of tomorrow morning... I pureed a can of white meat chicken with chicken broth until it was applesauce consistency, took a couple of spoonfuls and mixed it with taco sauce and a sprinkle of cheese. Microwaved it for a minute, topped with a tiny bit of sour cream and YUM!!!! I'll mix the rest of the chicken with other stuff over the next couple of days. -

6 days post op-newbie

Syntrax Nectar fruit flavored shakes were my savior - I just finished my last day of liquids yesterday. I couldn't take the thick, milky ones either. I mixed them with 16 oz of water and some ice. I ordered them from BJs Bariatrics - you can choose your own sample pack and they ship quickly. Hope this helps. http://www.bjsbariatrics.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=bjb&Product_Code=synSamplePack&Category_Code=syn -

bmbrush413 replied to kc82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two ideas - tried both today on my first day of purees! Taco chicken Puree canned chicken with broth until smooth. Add taco sauce (not salsa) to taste. Mix in a little shredded cheddar and microwave until hot. Top with a little sour cream. YUM! Inside Out Unlasagna 2 spoonfuls ricotta cheese, sprinkle of parmesan cheese, sprinkle of Italian seasoning, sprinkle of shredded mozzarella. Microwave 1 minute. Puree one meatball with marinara until smooth. Top ricotta mixture with "meat sauce" and microwave again until heated through. -

So far it's taken me almost an hour to eat my two spoonfuls of pureed chicken, but it tastes SOOOOOOO good after all those protein shakes!! LOL -
Good girl/Bad girl....grocery shopping

I totally did that! I had kind of a "last supper" mindset for about 2 weeks before. I had my last Ben & Jerry's, dinner at the Melting Pot (fondue), a burger with onion rings - but I didn't go nuts. In my mind, do what feels right to you - but know you have a long road ahead and eating healthy is going to be key in your recovery and future losses. -
Hi there! Glad you found us! I'm 3 weeks out (tomorrow) and this crew has been so great! Hope we can all be helpful to you. Best of luck on your surgery day - and make sure you post to let us know you made out okay!

Still feeling weak after 3 weeks
bmbrush413 replied to Sheraton1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also sleeved on 3/26. I still get tired pretty easily - usually take a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. Today was my first day back at work. I have a desk job, but I ran out of steam around 3:30 or so. I wasn't able to stomach my AM Protein shake (too thick) but got in my afternoon one (Syntrax nectar Caribbean Cooler). Supposed to start purees tomorrow, but I jumped the gun and started tonight. I'm really hoping this will help me get some energy back. Supposed to exercise more, but I just don't have the energy yet. -

Got mine the morning after...lasted a little longer than usual. Seems to be fairly typical. -
Recipe ideas for the puree stage...
bmbrush413 replied to kc82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't WAIT to start purées on Tuesday!!! My dietician said meats with broth or some kind of sauce, tuna or chicken salad, fish with sauce, fruit (all blended to applesauce consistency), cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, etc. I'm so excited! Silly, huh?? -
Issues with ursadiol/actigall medication?
bmbrush413 replied to bmbrush413's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That might be the next step... I don't start purees until Tuesday though and I hadn't taken it since my surgery. Didn't want to wind up with gallstones and another surgery!! -
Post op march sleevers

I've used these almost exclusively. I haven't tried the apple one, but I usually stick to the roadside lemonade, pink grapefruit, fuzzy navel and crystal sky. I mix a whole packet with 16 oz of water and ice. I can't tolerate the thicker shakes, and have found out (unfortunately by getting sick) that I'm having issues with lactose - that's a new one for me. I guess everyone is different! -
I bought some pre-op, tried them and threw them out. Plus, my dietician told me that you can't really absorb that much protein at once anyway. I have stuck with my Syntrax Nectar shakes and have been fine.

Is Cigna always a nightmare to get approval?
bmbrush413 replied to sissytx's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was approved the first time around. You are correct that they come back the first time saying they are missing paperwork. The scheduler at my surgeon's office said that letter is automatically triggered and not to panic - it goes to everyone even though the doctor had sent everything. I got another letter a few days later that I was approved. I followed all of their requirements to a T - their 6 months of supervised nutrition, all of the doctor visits... It wasn't that big of a deal. They even approved an extra night in the hospital since I wasn't able to get my liquids in to the doctor's satisfaction. -
2 Weeks Out - Anoyone else struggle with digestive issues?

I started having issues with milk/lactose which I never had before. You might want to check what you're eating/drinking... -
Constipation reason?
bmbrush413 replied to MrsGina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How far out are you? I know I had issues only one day - and I'll be 3 weeks on Tuesday. It was the morning after a day when I was low on fluids. I'd check with your doctor if it continues. There are lots of reasons that could cause it, but you want to make sure you don't have some kind of blockage. -
Constipation reason?

Make sure you're drinking enough liquids...dehydration can make it worse. -

bmbrush413 replied to petra1124's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't blend mine with ice - just put the ice cubes in after I give it a few good shakes in my Blender Bottle. I use 16 oz. of Water and about a cup of ice. -
