  1. This is why I never even thought about WLS until now. I know several people who did the bypass, and they looked like they aged twenty years before my eyes. I did not want to look like that.

I considered the band, but my Dr told me about the sleeve. I have looked at everyone's pics, and haven't seen one drawn out face yet, so I feel better about the sleeve. Now, if I can only feel better about loose skin...

  2. I'm 5;3, 260 pounds hippy and curvy

I am three inches shorter than you, but about the same weight. My doctor looked me in the eye, before I said anything, and flat out said if I was looking to be 120 or so to forget it . It is not reasonable- too hippy and curvy and it wouldn't look healthy. I agreed with him. He said a realistic target would be 150ish .

  3. I live my fat moment every day. I commute to and from work on a bus, 45 minutes each way. I started noticing that I always seemed to have a seat to myself on the bus, even when crowded. Once or twice, people have even stood rather than sit by me. I finally realized that it is because people see me and keep walking because they don't want to sit next to the fat lady. :( It's not like I spill over either, it's just that it looks like I do because of my big upper arms (I keep them on my side by hooking them on my purse straps).

  4. really? no one told me about any options. you have a modified liquid diet for 90 days? wow! think once they get you below a certain BMI they can refuse to give you the surgery? that's what I wonder.

No worries with that here- I am 5 feet tall but weigh 270! My BMI is over 50, and am prediabetic but probably diabetic (waiting for the test results).

  5. I have Aetna now , I've submitted paperwork and now have hoops to jump through. I'm 5' 7", weigh 253 now (Just lost 10 lbs) and have to go through a 6 month Dr. monitored diet first. I've seen her twice, had a bunch of lab work done, including drug testing. Frustrating, as once you decide this is the best choice, you've probablyl already been through many diets as I have and gained and lost the same 35 lbs over and over again. Hopefully by Nov. I'll be qualified to have the sleeve. Wondering whether the pliation or the full sleeve is the better choice. Still have to meet with the actual Dr. This is the 2nd time I'm trying to qualify. UHC turned me down 3 years ago.

Just curious, I have Aetna as well, but I am doing the 3 month option instead of the 6month. Is that not an option for you? I have to visit with the Dr, NUT and Psych a set amount of times within the 90 days. The NUT put me on the modified liquid diet after the first visit. I am currently on day 31 of the 90 day plan.

  6. Hi, I am in the first stages of my journey, currently at 275. I had my first Dr visit and NUT visit. We are going for the 90 day plan for my insurance. My NUT has put me on a modified pre-op diet as of now. Funny thing, she did it before she realized that I was doing the 90 day as opposed to 6 months. Was she going to have me do it for that long? Is that normal? I get three low fat, low carb Protein Drinks, a small meal, and a snack per day. I know they want to shrink the liver, but this seems likes it's going to be really long time.

  7. I love reading this thread. It is very open, honest & informative. I am 5 flat and am at my highest weight of 270. My doctor straight out told me that, no matter what the medcal chart says, I am not one to weigh less than 140, and that might be a stretch. He says realistically I should expect 155 or so. I will be happy to get to that! I must admit my biggest fear is the loose skin, but I will deal with that when I get there!
