    Out Of The 300

Way to go! That is wonderful! Keep up the great work. How do you feel? Any complications?

What are the Lovenox shots for?

    Did You All Know About

MIne was removed 4 years ago - so glad that I won't have to worry about that post-op - I know how much gallbladder issues can be a huge problem.
  4. Stool will be black not red if there is blood in it. Are you running a fever? Any other symptoms?

    Finally Approved!

Congrats! Wow, the hubby doesn't know you were considering WLS? I'm thinking you should tell him...

    Please Not A Leak!

AND, last but certainly not least - thank goodness it isn't a leak!

    Please Not A Leak!

Are you taking a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) like Prilosec or Nexium? If not, you should have them give you a prescription for that. It works wonders!!! You could try Pepcid A/C over the counter to give you some relief until you can talk to the surgeon's office in the morning.
  8. When you lose weight do you get taller? Considering you don't have excessive junk in the trunk now you can probably stand up straighter and closer to the wall giving you an inch or two advantage - right???

    5% of 1%?

Another proud atheist checking in.... I believe in science and until someone can prove to me their is a God and this is why, I am just not having any of it. Personally, I think most of the "believers" do so kind of like an insurance policy. They figure if it's true, I want to make sure I am paid up! Seems rather ridiculous to me. I live a good life, I am honest and quite frankly I don't need to go to a church every 7 days to be reminded how to live and be a good person. If you have to be reminded every 7 days how to be a good person, you truly are the weakest link of the bunch! Glad to have found this group. I personally think we need to start us a group of "Non-Believer Sleevers!" Anybody with me???

    Why Do I Do It?

No, I have not been sleeved yet. I am expecting to have surgery in late September/early October. I just can't imagine why I would do such a thing. I know it is not right and I am trying to change my ways. Ay yi yi - what a process! Old habits really do die hard!

Got My Yonanas Machine For 4$

I personally don't have a Yonanas machine so I can't speak for it; however, I love the Ninja b/c it is so versatile. You can make ice cream in it, you can chop, you can dice, you can puree, you can liquify, etc. I bought the Ninja b/c I figured it would come in super handy during the liquids and purees portion of the post-op diet. If you are going to purchase one QVC has the best price! Good Luck and let me know what you choose.
  12. My consult is August 14th. I have Psych Eval Sept 10th - blood work, EKG, chest x-ray, etc. between those two appointments. Shooting for late September/early October surgery date.
  13. I think that is really great! That is more than 1 pound a day - actually it is 1.28 pounds per day! Maybe if you look at it that way it will help you view it differently. I saw great work and keep it up!
  14. Anyone had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy done by Dr. Blaine Nease out of Cabell Huntington Hospital? If so, what was your experience? Also, if you have had Dr. Nease perform other procedures (i.e. lap band revision to sleeve, gastric bypass, etc.) Any feedback is appreciated. Strongly considering VSG in the next few months.
  15. I have a 4 year old, rambunctious son who drives me nuts on a daily basis as is! I can't imagine tending to his needs post-op and surviving on liquids and very few calories. Anyone have any tips to make that transition a bit easier??? I love the boy but not looking forward to tough recovery days coupled with a small child.

    Greek Yogurt Question

Apparently, Greek yogurt has a higher protein count b/c there is more milk involved in the straining process. I will take you up on that drink offer though!

    Greek Yogurt Question

Here is the answer to your question: http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/fitness/yogurt-smackdown-greek-vs-regular.html Unfortunately, the answer is NO - straining regular yogurt will not up the Protein count. Greek yogurt is strained 3 times versus 2 times like regular yogurt and has more milk which ups the protein count. Sorry!
  19. So, there I was out to dinner with my husband and son tonight at a local Chinese buffet. As I was eating my dinner, I realized "Wow, my life is really going to change soon." I bet I won't even be able to eat a whole egg roll and a cup of Soup post-op (even if it is 1 year out). This kind of startles me and scares me to be honest with you. I worry that I will mourn food and long for more at each meal. I am a variety gal and love lots of different foods at a sitting. So now, I am second guessing maybe VSG isn't for me, but then I think the food is exactly what got me to the 300+ pounds I am. I am just so very confused as to how I could possibly be okay with 4 bites of food for the rest of my life. 4 bites of food! 4 bites of food! That just doesn't seem like enough to survive on and get adequate nutrients. Why do I keep flip-flopping on this decision? I'm committed, I'm not, I'm committed, I'm not, I'm committed, I'm not --- I feel like I have picked a daisy in the yard and am pulling the petals off one by one. Anyone ever feel like this? And how did you get past these flip-flop feelings?
  20. Yeah, I'm going to need to get that recipe! Can you message me with it?
  21. You have no idea how much your post means to me! I am so glad that someone really understands where I am coming from. I am not looking for instant gratification over my health but I am a wonderful cook and enjoy food. I just know I don't need to enjoy it to the tune of 300+ more pounds. I will keep posting and continuing on this journey. I think everyone of us has to come to grips with a sense of loss and a sense of renewal by finding that gratification in other things in life, besides food. For some of us the road is harder than others.... Thank you for your honesty and perspective!
  22. That is a great response! Thank you so much for that reassurance. It is exactly what I was looking to understand.
  23. And, no I don't think I need to sit down with a counselor and work through my issues with food - I know what they are, just am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the 4 bites of food for the rest of my life!!!!

    Smoking

Wow, no offense here but that is absolutely obsurd! Why would anyone want to take such a drastic measure (VSG) to get healthy just to start smoking? I have never heard of that, but I am completely shocked anyone would consider that. Now, I do understand if you were a smoker before surgery and had a hard time breaking the addiction, but to just start smoking is sheer craziness in my opinion. Just my 2 cents...
  25. Did you PCP give you a reason why as to why he doesn't believe in it? His job as a physician is not to pass judgment on the procedure itself or whether or not he agrees but rather make a determination if this will positively impact your (his patient's) life.
