  1. My surgeon only requires 2 days of Clear liquids prior to surgery. I am scheduled for surgery on Wednesday, October 3rd which means I don't start on a pre-op diet until Monday, October 1st. I am concerned with having an enlarged liver and experiencing complications during surgery. So, here are my questions: 1) How long does it take to shrink your liver? 2) What diet should I be following to get a jump start on the 2 day pre-op diet? 3) How would you know if you have an enlarged liver? Or am I needlessly worrying? Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Welcome MsShaunaMarie! So nice to have you here. This forum is AMAZING! So many wonderful, educated, positive and supportive members. I am scheduled for surgery October 3rd and am excited, scared, nervous, etc. I look forward to hearing more about your journey!
  3. I am scheduled for surgery on October 3rd and I seriously think this EVERY single minute of EVERY day that ticks down til surgery. I understand this is just a tool to help me get to where I need to be. But that anything can be manipulated to not benefit you. If I choose to suck down 1,000 calorie milkshakes this won't work. I will just have to be responsible and accountable for what I eat, when and how...

    Pre-Op Diet

Thank you for your explanation - very helpful. How long do you thinik it takes to make a difference. I only have Tuesday - Sunday of this week and then my clear liquids start on 10/1 and then surgery 10/3. Should I even bother or will a little bit help?

  9. I am scheduled for surgery on October 3rd and I am very anxious! Hoping that my nerves calm down or else I will be having them give me the "happy juice" as soon as I cruise into the hospital... I think it is pretty normal.
  10. My husband is taking off work to be at the hospital for my surgery and the 2 days after - he is meeting with his boss tomorrow to let him know he is taking time off on those 3 days. What do you think he should say to his boss? Should he advise his boss I am having bariatric surgery or just say surgery and not elaborate? I am not ashamed to be having bariatric surgery; however, we live in a small town and I don't want to become the poster child for WLS. I want to be able to tell people on my own terms and in my own way. I don't want friends finding out through the grapevine and then being upset that I didn't share this with them before. Any advice?

    How Should It Be Explained?

Interesting that you say that b/c I actually am having a hernia repair done. Husband's concern is how it would look if later it came out that I had WLS and his boss assumed he was dishonest about it. Don't want his boss to think he is untrustworthy.
  14. This is exactly how I feel. I just got the call the other day too and am scheduled for surgery October 3rd. I am scared as hell and nervous and wonder the same exact things. I hope this anxiety wears off b/c I practically think about it round the clock...sure wish I could relax and know this is the right decision, only time will tell....

I have Cigna Open Access too and I was approved in 5 days on the first try. I would call and demand to speak to a supervisor to understand what is taking so long. Good Luck!

    Big Day Scheduled!

My pre-op diet is only the 2 days before the surgery. I will be sure to follow it to a tee, but I am terrified!
  19. So, the time has arrived - for so long I have jumped through hoops, completed all the requirements for surgery, met with the nutrionist, PCP, etc...AND today I get that call: Surgery is schedule for October 3rd! 2 weeks away - are you kidding me? WOW, how fast that will go by. I am terrified and excited all at the same time. I am so nervous I might vomit! Anyone else share the same surgery date? Any tips from post-op folks?

    Spouses Sleeved Too

I am being sleeved in October and hubby is being done in December...so we will be in the same boat. I would assume it is easier to change your entire lifestyle at your home. At least I know when grocery shopping we are eating the same foods and not special meals for me and different meals for him. Is your spouse sleeved or getting sleeved?
  22. Do you use both the Truvia and the Equal at the same time or is that Truvia OR Equal???
  23. I like to think I am a pearple (pronounced purple) - I am a cross between a pear and an apple. I am just fat all over! Looking forward to surgery in October so I can get on that loser's bench!
  24. Wow! Looking great! I even see a collar bone sticking out there...I'm pretty sure I don't have one. Will be nice to find mine. Keep up the great work!
