  1. My husband wasn't supportive with my band surgery. Now that I have to convert to RNY, he is really unsupportive. I was thinking sleeve, but I may as well go all the way this time as I should have before. He didn't attend any of my Dr. appts. or meetings. But as someone said, I will try my hardest to get him to come with me to the Dr. and have them explain my situation. Due to my health issues, this surgery is a necessity. Your Dr. can explain it to him better.

    Any Band converters under........

Thanx Mary23, I've also heard that the weight is slower coming off when you convert from band to either other surgery. I suppose I shouldn't worry about losing too much. My Dr. would like to see me lose 75 more, but I'd be happy to lose 50 lbs.

    Any Band converters under........

I'm diabetic and heard that I should have rny instead of the sleeve.I'm at 215 lbs now and I am just worried about losing too much if I went with the rny. Anyway, I have a CT scan scheduled for tomorrow and I suppose my Dr. will inform me of what she feels would be best if the band is my problem. But that's where my pain is, up and down the port area.

    Band to sleeve tomorrow!

Good for you! That's the way I would like to do it but my old surgeon makes you wait 6 mos. I have a CT scan scheduled on Tuesday and I really don't know what this new surgeon will suggest when the band is removed. I hope there's not too much damage done my the band and I'm sleeved the same time as the removal. Wish me luck, and please pray for me!

    Band to sleeve tomorrow!

I hope you have a quick recovery. Did all of you guys have band removal and sleeve done in the same procedure?

you've done great. I know it's not easy. I'm looking to be there one day
  7. Hello! My story is the same as everyone else here. Next month will be 4 years banded. I lost 45 lbs in the first 6 months and nothing else since. I've just been too afraid of converting to another surgery in which my Dr. insists that I need due to many complications and still needing to lose weight due to my health issues. One week ago, I was in so much pain and went to E.R. I had upper stomach and port pain. All tests came back showing nothing so I was given pain meds and sent home. I called my Dr. and told him that I am now ready to have it out. My surgery is in three weeks and Im still afraid but I have to wait before being sleeved due to what he believe may be a lot of scar tissue. Has anyone else have their band removed and is waiting or had to wait before being sleeved?

    Any Band converters under........

Thanks Sue, I thought that the band was what I wanted. Like many others, I made a poor decision. my Dr. tried hard to tell me w/o telling me not to go that route, but I didn't listen and now I weigh less and still have to have RNY.
  10. reshiapooh96

What made you chose RNY rather than sleeve?

I'm afraid as well. My band must go and my Dr. is saying that even if I get the sleeve and it doesn't work, I could still convert to the bypass. With that said, why not just do the bypass and avoid a third surgery. I weigh 215 now and I'm sure once my band is emptied I will gain back more weight. I must do it soon and stop fooling around with my diabetes. The Best to everyone!!!

    Band Out And Waiting Anyone?

I had to go see my PCP due to high B/P before my surgeon will take out my band. My PCP says he doesn't want to alter my meds it wasn't too high when they checked it and I just need to watch the things I eat. My B/P was higher when the band was placed, but this new surgeon wants it lower. Right now, I just want it out safely. If I remain with the surgeon that I have now, I will have to wait 6 months. I did get another opinion and If I change surgeons, I don't think I'll have to wait as long but will have to pay expensive transfer fees. I can make sacrifices to help me with that and I believe that it would be worth doing. I'm not a spring chicken anymore...LOL

    Band to bypass scheduled!

Well, off to see my personal Dr. tomorrow in hopes of getting my pressure down and for a clearance for bypass. This has been a long time in the making and I'm ready to change my life for the better. I've had my band for 4 years now and no weight loss in 3.5 years. Some of you had it done in one procedure and I'm hoping that I could too. But even if I can't, I'm ready to get it when I can. Thanks for your support and your posts. It's the boost I needed.
  13. Hello All! I was banded in '09 and was having issues as well as not losing and gaining even being tight. My Dr. want me to convert to either sleeve or bypass (sleeve being his preference I believe). Anyway it was my preference. I was scheduled for pre-op this week and band removal on the 6th of this month. Due to my B/P that's too high, He wants me to get a clearance from my personal Dr. I'm glad I took time to check out these posts while waiting for my appt. b/c I'm finding out that there are some folks that still have to have bypass after being sleeved. I regret that I chose the band over bypass anyway, so even though my Dr. said that I could still convert to bypass if the sleeve doesn't work out, Why not just go with the bypass. Anyone else feel this way? I need help with this b/c my weight is at 215 right now and my diabetes is climbing along w/ all of my other numbers.

Was thinking sleeve but now thinking Bypass

I've learned that wheather you have diabetes or not, it's better to go with the bypass to avoid further weight loss surgeries down the road.

Was thinking sleeve but now thinking Bypass

SoccerMoma, He is leaving it up to me as well. Yes, the bypass does make better since and Im sure your logic is the same as what I'm thinking. Soooo sorry I didn't take this route at first.

Was thinking sleeve but now thinking Bypass

Hi oldoneyoungagain, I'm leaning more towards bypass now b/c I don't want to have any more surgeries if the sleeve is not successful. The more I think about it, the better bypass sounds to me. Thanks!

  18. When I was first banded, I may have lost more weight if I had remained on liquids a little longer. But I was ready to eat soft foods and advanced to eating any and everything I wanted in no time. Looking back on things, It was at that stage that I lost the most weight. For those of you that had to wait before getting sleeved, How long did you stay on liquids after band removal?
  19. I'm with you. What are FAT POWS?

How Long R U On Liquids After Band Removal?

I agree. Nobody could convince me of that at first when I wanted it so badly. I wish I had listened.

    Too "small" for surgery?

I have a BMI of 38. It was 44 on the day I was banded. Long story short, complications are the issues I'm facing and my Dr. said that the band has to go. He wants me to revise to sleeve. I was worrying about my skinny ankles at first b/c my co-worker always take jabs at me about em. I still have all the co-morbids as before including diabetes and still have 60 lbs to lose before reaching goal. These health issues run in my family as well and I have seen what my mom went through. So I would say yes to you and hope that others here will support me on this as well. We will just have to close our ears to the haters that say that we( aren't big enough and just do it on your own). They just don't understand.

How Long R U On Liquids After Band Removal?

Hi, Sorry about all the problems, I'm sure we all have had our issues with the band. How have you been doing with your weight?

Sherry, That's great. If my Dr. doesn't recommend it, I will be asking him about doing the same. Thanks

    lightweights around 200 pounds

I am also glad to have come across this post. I will be losing my band in 2 wks. Dr. said that I need to convert to "sleeve or by pass" b/c I still have diabetes and H/P. My weight is 212 right now. I started at 248 4 yrs ago with the band that has to go now. I am worried about doing either one. I have now ruled out the bypass. After reviewing these posts and seeing that there are others out there in my shoes, I believe the sleeve is the way for me. Thanks
