  1. Out of all the forums' date=' I particularly love this one the best. Although I know full well what I'm getting myself into, I also am well aware of all that could go wrong. Am I the only nurse out here scared to death? I do pray, and I am most certain that God will guide me with making the best decision; however, I still have fear deep down. That nagging thought of "what if something goes wrong". I also realize that if I was having this surgery in the US, i would be more at ease. I think the bulk of my anxiety comes from having this procedure done in Mexico.[/quote']

I'll keep you in my prayers as well! Let go of the "what ifs" and take the leap of Faith. You're going to do great!

  2. Wow! I pray my recovery is as good as yours! My doc promises me I will ready to return to work as a labor/delivery nurse in just 2 weeks-I thought he was pulling my leg! I plan on requesting 6 weeks just in case. I also don't want anyone' date=' other than my director to know about my surgery-so I want to go back 100%. Thanks for sharing!@[/quote']

From my experience, your Dr is right. By 2 weeks you should be back 100%. Seriously.

I'm curious though, if you don't want your coworkers to know about the surgery then what do you plan on telling them when you're gone 6 weeks? Just asking...

Best of luck to you!!! :)

  3. Question how much weight have u lost since your surgery? I've lost only 40 pounds and I feel like I'm slow. I had surgery on 4/27/12 and just curious to know

Surgery date was 4/30/12 and as of today I am down exactly 50 lbs. 259 to 209. My first 6 lbs were actually lost on my 2 week preop diet though. So technically I'm down 44 lbs since the actual surgery.

Sounds like were right on track with each other then! :)

Keep me updated with your progress! You're the only other one that I know so far that has a surgery date so close to mine!

Congrats on your success so far, keep it up!!

  4. Hi 3 years ICU nurse here. not sleeved yet but im planning going to mx before this year ends. I really worried about the weight cause in our unit we must give baths and make the changes of position and battle with the usual disoriented patient. I will have only 2 weeks free.

I will love to hear some experiences thanks.

I work weekends on an Ortho/Neuro floor and we do a lot of the physical pushing and pulling as well. I took off 11 days and when I came back to work I didn't have any issues. I didn't take any pain meds past the 3rd day post op and as long as I drank my Protein shake everyday lack of energy wasn't a problem either. Maybe my case is the exception, but I really didn't think the surgery was that big of deal. Hopefully yours will be the same too! Good luck to you!

  5. That's an average of 10lbs a month! That's great! Don't compare your journey to anyone elses- we're all different. Just remind yourself that you didn't put all the weight on over night so don't expect it all to come off over night. Slow and steady is healthy. Congrats and keep up the great work!
