Well I finally got thru all 28 pages! Whew there are a lot of August people! I am going for surgery August 28th here in Dallas with Dr. David Kim. I'm currently 5'5" and weighed in a few days ago at 194. I would like to get down to 120-130. I started being overweight at 20, got to around 150, then by 25 I was about 165, by 30 I was 170...you see where this is headed. I have to stop NOW, so that is why I made this decision.
What am I most scared of.....I have three weeks of all liquid diets and I can't stand the Protein drinks! UGH I know this is really silly to be scared about but I want this to be successful and I don't know how I'm going to get thru this unless I find some that I can actually get down without gagging. I'm not so worried about the surgery because I'm healthy, and also it still feels a ways off to me.
Who is the one person I want to see the new skinny me?......me! I want a picture of myself that I'm not ashamed of. I haven't seen one of those in about 20 years.
What preparations am I making?
7/1- Took me 2 weeks to kick the caffeine and carbonation! wow the headaches!
7/16- Tomorrow I am shooting for limiting carbs and continuing to shop for Protein Shakes. My doctor recommends Bari-Essentials and Opti-fast. Anyone tried them? Continue to walk a minimum of 5X per week for 1 hour. Start jogging for at least 6 minutes of that time.
7/23- No carbs at all and move to jogging for 10 minutes and rest walking for a total of an hour a day. Also, this is the week of my pre-op appointments, EKG, GERD Test, Pre-Op diet seminar
7/30- Start limiting my in take significantly. Move to jogging 15 minutes, walking 45.
8/7- Last "normal meal" for my husbands BDAY
8/8-Start the Pre-Op diet
Finally, what are the three things I can't wait to do when I'm skinny?
1.Take a family portrait....I have never done one and my boys are in high school!
2. See someone and have them not recognize me. Wow that would feel good!
3. RUN, JUMP, SKIP, PLAY! I want to do everything!
Here's a new question I have not seen...what is going to be your final reward for losing ALL the weight? (I plan to have small ones along the way as well!) I want to go to Peru and walk up to Macchu Pichu! (not sure if I spelled that right)
Good luck all!
Hi JLOR!
Looks like we are both having surgery this month by Dr. David Kim! My surgery is August 7th.

Tmi, but my top 3 things are:
1) wiping my butt without trying to be a contortionist.
2) shopping in any store I want and wearing pretty clothes, and heels that don't hurt
3) just FEEL BETTER!!! Inside, out, and mentally!!
MGM!!! #1 made me laugh so hard that it gave me a coughing attack! HAHAHAHAHA That reminds me...I lost 40+ lbs on Slim4Life a couple of years ago (and gained it all back ugh). When I lost the weight I noticed my toilet at home didn't creak when I sat on it anymore. It was a big joke in our house about the happy toilet that didn't creak anymore.

My 3 things I want to do is
Go to regular clothing stores
Not breathe so hard after steps or gym
Going to party for my birthday November 16
Whoohoo Tabby! Won't it be awesome to go shopping for new clothes in much smaller sizes for your birthday party? Fun!

Ok so I'm not real sure what three things I want to list cause I have so many. We all share some of the same things. One of mine that I do look forward too and some may find this humorous. But I work on my parents ranch. I love riding horses, actually miss it. I don't ride much at all anymore cause I have dreams at night that my horse collapses when I saddle up. So I so look forward to feeling comfortable on my horse and not like I am gonna crush her and see her smushed to the ground with all for legs out to side.
Awe, Storm! I would feel the same way though. Think about how gorgeous and THIN you are going to be. The horse won't even realize you are on him/her!

Mine are:
1. Crossing my legs
2. Being able to walk with out being short of Breath
3. Getting rid of pain in my feet and back
so many more I can list.
Those are great ones! Mine are:
1. Having more energy to get out and do things with my daughter
2. Polishing my toenails (trying to do it now is not a pretty sight!)
3. Getting off my medications

Well hello!! You for sure are my new BFF
Ok all, I have been obsessing online and ran across this blog. Kinda ... Well, REALLY FREAKED me out. Please take a look and talk me off the ledge!!

LOL We'll go through this surgery together girl! We might end up meeting at Dr. Kim's office since our surgery days are so close together. I'm glad you found this site. There are a ton of really nice and encouraging people on here.
Ok, about that blog you mentioned... Stop freaking yourself out!!! Have you ever heard that expression "people are too quick to complain and not compliment"? A lot of people are more than happy to gripe about things that went wrong. Please understand those experiences are very rare. There are TONS of posts on this site to encourage and motivate you. If this surgery was so horrible, why would thousands of people still have it and have so much success?

Hi txjina1!
Welcome to the group. My surgery is August 7th with Dr. Kim!
-
Thanks so much. I'm going to talk to my doctor again about it (hmm, maybe I should wait until I am off Estrogen and hormonal and then go in there...lol)
-
I take estrodiol and I took it all the way up to my surgery date and directly after surgery with no problems and I have a history of blood clots in my legs! So no worries! As for losing I'm slowly losing but I'm losing, hopefully I won't have another night like tonight though, I let my head hunger get the better of me! Urgggg
I to had a complete hysterectomy in May 2011
Wow, that's great to hear about the estrodiol. I wonder why doctors are so different on things like that. If you don't mind me asking...what dosage are you on? I take 1 milligram.
I'm glad to hear that you are losing and can totally understand about the head hunger. People walk by with their lunches at work and it smells soooo good. It makes me feel like I am hungry but I am really not. Hang in there. We're here to support you!

Hey fellow sleevers,
I've just started thinking about the fact that I am on Estrodiol for hormone replacement (total hysterectomy at 33) and also Effexor for mild depression due to hormonal changes & to help with hot flashes. BOTH of these are known to have side effect of weight gain which is no doubt why I was able to put on over 100lbs in less than a year (that's way faster than normal).
So just wondering from personal experience if weight loss has still been good if on either of these or has it not even been an issue. Also have Hypothyroidism which didn't happen till after Hyster also.....
Thanks for any experience....
Hi Misty,
I am also on Estrodiol for hormone replacement (total hysterectomy as well). My doctor told me I have to stop taking the medication for 2 weeks pre op and 3 weeks post op surgery due to blood clots. I'm worried about the hot flashes

How frustrating. Well I'm glad you are able to have the revision surgery.
-
Awesome! A friend of mine is having a band to sleeve revision too. Are you having problems with your band? Hers slipped and she is having major issues.
-
Hi! Best of luck to you as well. Hey, now that it is July we can all say we are having our surgeries "next month"
Audrey523 and allnewme reacted to this -
Happy to help anytime!

One of the biggest concerns I have is that I have to stop taking estrogen 2 weeks prior to surgery and 3 weeks after. Can you say HOT FLASHES?!?!?!?!? My doctor told me it was necessary to decrease the chance of blood clots.

Here is a way to find some of Dr. Barker's patients... go to Patients at the top of the screen, then Patient Search. From there choose Dr. Barker's name as My Surgeon, then click on Find Patients.
-
Sounds great! Do you have to go on a 2 week pre-op liquid diet? I've been reading different posts and it looks like the pre-op instructions vary by doctor.

Hi everyone. My surgery is on August 7th at Forest Park Medical in Dallas, TX.

QOTD- what diets have you tried before eventually deciding on the sleeve??? Did any of them work for you??
Jenny Craig, NutriSystem, Weight Watchers, Slim4Life...the list goes on. I lost over 40 lbs on WW and over 40 lbs on Slim4Life but of course I gained it all back and then some. I'm good at losing weight...it's the maintaining part that I seriously stink at lol
