I mix the Isopure with water, about half/half and it helps to get it down. I also like the Syntrax nectar fruit flavors. I'm struggling a little with the unflavored Unjury. I feel like I can taste it. I mix it with tea in the morning and I can manage that, but I tried it with chicken broth and vegetable broth and I just couldn't do it. I will say that most everything I drink at this point (day 4) has protein in it. I managed ~50g protein, 48 oz fluid yesterday. Trying for 64 today.

New idea for protein...and it tastes GOOD!

@@CanyonBaby I will ask the dietician when I see her in a few weeks. Right now I can't do that much Protein all at once. During my pre-op diet I mixed Protein Powder with plain Greek yogurt, which is about 45g and really yummy. I guess if I do it next week when I'm on full liquids I will only be able to eat half (or less) at a time anyway. -

I'm day 3 post op, but the nurse who did my discharge instructions said that our bodies can only absorb 21g of protein a time. So the clear Isopure has 40g if you drink the whole bottle (not that I could all at once) you would just pee out about 1/2 of the protein. Also, some of the hair loss is likely due to stress, anesthesia (depending on how far post op you are). -
April 1 Sleever - Need help getting enough water in?
missheidi47 replied to Hope0102's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are still on Clear liquids, then any liquid you have counts. I'm post op day 2, and supposed to get 48 oz of fluids per day and 70g of Protein if I can. The NUT told me to focus on fluids first. I know I won't hit 48 oz today, but I'm not worried because I had an IV all day before I left the hospital. -
So Monday, April 6 is the day. I work in healthcare, so today being Good Friday didn't even register because I worked. I'm working tomorrow too. I'm not really nervous about the surgery (much), but no one called to tell me what time to arrive on Monday. When I met with the pre-op anesthesia nurse, she said in passing that I'm scheduled for 7 AM and someone would call me the Friday before to tell me what time I needed to be there. She said it would probably be around 5. I left her a message before lunch, but she must not be working today because she didn't return my call. I'm kind of disappointed because I work for the same healthcare system and work my butt off to provide excellent customer service to my patients (which is the expectation.) So I'm gonna show up at 5 and hope that's correct. I know it is not my fault if it's not, but it's hard not to worry about it. That's my rant. Heidi

Freaking out a little
missheidi47 replied to missheidi47's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update: While at work yesterday, it occurred to me to call the main number for hospital. The receptionist was really nice, and called up to the OR for me. The charge nurse called me back and gave me the information I needed. Feeling much better, but really looking forward to Tuesday, when my sleeve is done. -

missheidi47 replied to missheidi47's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No. My only hope is that they do "robo calls" like they do for my doctor's office with the automated message to remind you or your appointment. I'm the first surgery, so it probably wouldn't be any earlier than 7 and 2 hours ahead is relatively standard. I would just feel better with confirmation. -
Fruit is definitely out because fructose (natural fruit sugar) is broken down in the liver as opposed to the stomach so it is counterproductive during the pre-op diet. I am lactose intolerant, and I have tolerated 3 - 4 whey protein isolate shakes per day. I use Unjury because that was the first one I tried and I liked it. Good luck!

unjury makes an unflavored Protein powder that you can mix with broth, Water + Crystal light, etc. I haven't tried it yet, but I bought some in case I hate the Isopure after surgery.

April Sleevers! Where are you at in your Journey?
missheidi47 replied to CandyCrushVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm scheduled for April 6. I'm on day 6 of my pre-op diet, and I haven't cheated at all. I am feeling really tired and achy though. I'm allowed 3 - 4 protein shakes a day, non-starchy veggies, broth or low fat cream soups, and 4 oz of lean chicken or fish once each week. I can also have low fat plain yogurt, sf popsicles, sf jello. I mix protein powder with plain Greek yogurt instead of doing a shake for dinner, and it is really satisfying. -
I still have a week until surgery, but I watch the show for inspiration and to remind me that it's really easy to slip back into old patterns. I don't want to be that person. I have been in denial in the past, but no more. I'm doing my pre-op diet right now, and it's not easy, but I have not cheated. I'm taking that as a sign that I can heal my relationship with food. I can empathize with how difficult food addiction is, but Penny still makes me angry sometimes.

Pre-op Diet! successes? struggles?
missheidi47 replied to Katie Bartholomew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I've been following my pre-op diet for 6 days. I have 3 - 4 protein shakes a day, non-starchy veggies, low-fat cream soup, and plain yogurt (I usually mix protein powder with plain Greek yogurt for my last protein shake). I can have sf popsicles and jello. And 4 - 6 ounces of lean chicken or fish once each week. My calories have been between 1000 - 1200 every day, carbs less than 75g (have to be less than 100g), and protein at least 80g. The NUT said the one to really watch was the carbs, so I have. I was doing okay, but for the last 2 days I am so tired and achy. I know I'm not getting sick, because I have no other symptoms. Anyone else experience something similar? I'm drinking my water, and planning to email the NUT, but probably won't hear anything until Monday. Thanks! -
Pre-op Diet! successes? struggles?
missheidi47 replied to Katie Bartholomew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There were healthy (and less healthy) desserts for our staff meeting at work today. So tempting, but I just munched on my salad and drank my protein shake and pictured my healthier self after surgery. -
Why do work people feel it is okay to steal food?

Put it in a container and label it "breast milk." Bet nobody touches it -
Pre-op Diet! successes? struggles?
missheidi47 replied to Katie Bartholomew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same date and started my pre-op diet Monday as well. Generally, I have to keep the carbs under 100 grams, no sugar, no fruit. It's 3 - 4 Protein shakes a day, and non-starchy vegetables, broth, cream Soups, plain yogurt, sf popsicles. I can have up to 6 ounces of chicken or fish once each week. The NUT said that salad with regular (not fat-free - too many carbs) dressing. I too had the piercing headache on the second day because of caffeine withdrawal. The NUT said that a little caffeine from tea was okay, but definitely none after surgery. So I bought some crystal light iced tea, and I put a little in my Water. Trying to taper down to no caffeine next week. It's not easy, but I've been mixing one scoop of Protein powder with plain Greek yogurt for dinner. It's pretty filling (and about 40g protein) and helps with the cravings. Good luck! Heidi -
Only off 7 days from work. Is this too soon?
missheidi47 replied to SouthernBelle69's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was planning on taking a week because that's what the surgeon had said. Then when I had all my pre-op appointments, the PA said 2 weeks. I went ahead and put in for the second week and I'm going to see how I feel. I am an occupational therapist, so I will be on light duty, but it is still a lot of walking. 6000 steps at work is a low day for me. Some days I hit 10000 steps before I leave work. -
April 6th. Finished all my pre-op appointments today. Starting my liquid diet on Monday. The nurse who did my pre-op lab work had the sleeve (same surgeon) in August, and she looked great. She really eased my mind about everything, and shared her first-hand experience. I'm ready!

1 week post op protein problems....
missheidi47 replied to 2bullymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is not for a few more weeks, but my doc and the nutritionist stressed that getting fluids was the first priority during the first week. The NUT also said that some people like to add Water to the Isopure since it is a little "thick." I tried a few flavors of the Isopure so I would know what to get for postop, and it wasn't thick exactly, but there is something different about it. I did not like the orange, but I did like the apple melon. The NUT also said that you can have unjury strawberry sorbet mixed with water or mix some of the unflavored Unjury with water + crystal light or broth. I am lactose intolerant, so I use Unjury pretty much exclusively for Protein shakes. -
Exercise after surgery
missheidi47 replied to missheidi47's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, everyone. Will definitely check with the surgeon. Heidi -
My surgery is scheduled for 4/6. I know that walking after surgery is important, but I'm curious about other exercise. I've been doing a Zumba-like class and it's a lot of fun, but I think I will probably have to wait a few weeks (at least) after surgery. The moves definitely work your abs. I will ask the surgeon when I see him for my pre-op appointment. Anybody else doing classes after surgery?

I love Lands End. They have lots of options, including tankinis, separates, long torso.

Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet
missheidi47 replied to BeautifullyCreated1982's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I start my liquid diet on 3/23. When I met with my NUT she said that you can have a piece of lean chicken one week and a piece of fish the second week. I also am allowed to have non-starchy vegetables if I get hungry. I'm planning to bring some raw veggies to work to help with the cravings. Good luck!
