I might be freaking out but....

In the beginning your body is kind of in shock. Keep doing what you are doing and the pounds will come off. I thought I hadn't really lost that much, but now looking at how much I've lost in 3 months I'm doing great. Don't stress.

    Water weight and fluctuations

I weigh myself every day, but for some reason I don't attach a lot to the number. If it's up a little or not down, I know that it could be a little extra salt or hormonal or not drinking enough. I found in the beginning the numbers were all over the place. I'm almost 3 months out now, and the scale seems to be steadily going down. If the numbers are freaking you out, stop weighing yourself. I do my measurements once a month, and take a picture in work out clothes once a month to help keep track of my progress. That helps.

    Self Conscious....

I was walking quite a bit, and then it got way too hot, so I had to join a gym. I joined the Y here in Charlotte, and for several weeks I would only work out in the women's fitness room. Every time I went I would tell myself today I'm going to venture out, but I wouldn't do it. Friday one of the treadmills was broken and someone was using the other one (only 2 in the women's area.) I sucked it up, and went upstairs and it's a whole new world. When I see a larger person working out, I always think "good for you!" I'm assuming that's what others think of me, and if they're not I don't care. Find whatever gets you through the door. Cute workout clothes, good music, I'm listening to an audiobook only when I work out. If I want to find out how it ends, I have to keep going. Good luck!

    Am I really that vain?

I have some friends who don't comment/compliment on weight loss because if you don't know the situation you can really put your foot in your mouth. Like if you tell someone how great they look and it turns out they've lost weight because they have cancer. Keep plugging away, you are doing great!

    Uncertain futures

My mom's cancer taught me how to breathe too. @@CanyonBaby it sounds like you are taking good care of your hubby, and trying to take care of yourself too. Sending lots of prayer and positive energy your way.

    Eating on the go

I mixed flavored protein powder with plain Greek yogurt. It's pretty filling, but lots of protein. I also used Fairlife skim milk to make my protein shakes. It has 13g protein in a cup (vs. 8g for regular skim milk.) Good luck!

    Out Patient vs Hospital Stay

I stayed overnight. Surgery was at 7:30 and I was home the next evening. I would have been home earlier in the day, but my ride had to work. I live alone, so I was glad to stay overnight in the hospital. I was on ice chips after surgery, then started Clear liquids the next day. I started purees after 1 week.

Ok. WTF am I doing wrong?

I've NEVER watched my fat content. Just sayin'. My NUT said not to worry too much about fat. His reasoning is that most items that are made low or fat-free have more carbs. I use regular salad dressing, but I found an Italian dressing with 3g carbs and 60 calories in a serving (2 TBSP) but I only need 1/2 for the little bit of salad I eat. I stick with cheeses that are naturally lower in fat like string cheese, and of course the meat I eat is typically turkey or chicken and lean.

HUNGER - is it really reduced?

I'm almost 3 months out and I get hungry, but it's usually when it's probably time to eat. It's really hot in Charlotte right now, and my appetite is reduced because of the heat. I've been eating Greek yogurt for dinner, and I'm full after 5 ounces. I agree that the hunger is not as bothersome as it was before surgery. Also, because Water fills me up, I can drink water to stave off the hunger for a bit.

    Post sleeved Group Question

I'm almost 3 months out. I did not have a problem getting my liquids or Protein, really from the beginning. I've also had almost no nausea. I've lost 47 pounds (including the pre-op diet.) Even though I had no trouble getting in my liquids, I'm full after eating 5 ounces of Greek yogurt even now. My sleeve is definitely working for me. I think I was just blessed with a relatively easy postop course. Sounds like you were too. The weight will come off. It seemed slow to me in the beginning, but losing 47 pounds since mid-March is not really slow, so I'm not complaining. Good luck!

    Pre-op diet vs post-op diet

For me, the cravings haven't been as bad after surgery. I still get hungry, but it's typically when I probably need to eat again. I'm almost 3 months out.
  12. So I've gotten at least 70g of protein daily every day since I started on clear liquids (surgery 4/6.) Today I'm not feeling well, probably stomach bug since I'm not usually nauseated and crampy. Not vomiting, and I've eaten a little: chicken soup at lunchtime and a soft boiled egg for dinner. There is no way I'm getting more than about 40g of protein today. I thought about a protein shake or some yogurt, but it doesn't sound at all appealing. How big a deal is it if I don't get my protein in today? I'm on track with liquids and I know that's the most important thing.
  13. I felt like I wasn't really losing at the pace I expected in the beginning. I was sleeved 4/6, and I have lost 46 pounds (including the pre-op diet.) So 46 pounds in 3 months. I will take it. Don't stress, follow your plan, and the pounds will leave you.

    caffeine withdrawal

I had a little caffeine the first few days of my pre-op diet. The NUT told me not to worry if it helped me get through the diet. I made sure to have a little less each day for a few days, and then I was fine. And I took some Tylenol to help with the headache.

    Touch of the stomach bug

Feeling better today. Woke up hungry, and I'm heading to work. Hopefully it's all done. Thanks!

    Occasional indulging!

I had a cheeseburger a couple of weeks ago because I was craving one. I skipped the bun and ate it with lettuce. If you make it yourself you have control over how lean your beef is. I think you have to decide how to make it fit your plan, and if it is something that will get you off track or not. I choose not to eat bread because it was something that I really thought I would miss. I don't, but I also don't want to open the door. If I crave meat of some kind or fruit or something that has nutritional value that I don't eat regularly, I'm going to fit it into my plan. If I'm craving jelly Beans or Pasta, maybe not. Good luck!

I'm eating like a normal person

I'm surprised that I haven't missed bread. And I loved my sandwiches before surgery. I haven't had a bite of bread since I started pre-op diet, and I haven't had a craving at all. I also love that a bite of something yummy satisfies instead of being the first of many. I have a bag of Hershey's special dark kisses at work, and I have maybe 1 or 2 a week.
  18. I struggled with veggies when I was on pureed. I tend to like my veggies raw or steamed crunchy, which was obviously not an option. I ended up getting some baby food that had fruit and veggies blended together and I mixed a little Protein powder in. Other than that I at Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and eggs. I pureed hard boiled eggs with light mayo and a little mustard and that was good. You will probably be less hungry if you get more protein.

    Lazy in the kitchen!

I don't love to cook, but I have been trying to prepare some meals on Sunday and freezing. One thing I love to make is veggie frittatas in a muffin tin. You can use whatever veggies you want - the last I made were with broccoli. Spray the tins with Pam, put the veggies in the bottom. Then I scramble 6 eggs with some seasonings and divide among the muffin cups. Top each with 1 TBSP of shredded cheese. They freeze really well and are yummy for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Super easy too. Pinterest has a lot of recipe ideas.
  20. I felt so good on day 2 and most of day 3, I was making plans to go back to work the following Monday (would have been 1 week post op.) I hadn't taken any pain meds other than Tylenol, I was walking, getting in all my water and protein, had no nausea. I couldn't believe how easy it was. Then it hit me. I felt pretty bad that night. Took some of the Vicodin and was a little less active the next day and that seemed to turn things around. I ended up taking another week off work, but I probably could have gone back mid-week. I decided that a little extra time to get in my walks and work on advancing my diet were a good thing. Now I'm 2 months out and feeling great.

    motion sickness

I would think it is a fluke, because motion sickness is about your vestibular system and involves your inner ears and nervous system. In other words it is the brain making you nauseated, not your stomach if that makes sense. I would definitely ask the next time you see the surgeon or your primary care doctor.

    Vitamins, protein shakes, etc

I was doing the Flintstone chewable prior to surgery because I cannot swallow Vitamin pills. Initially the surgeon had me take 2 a day, but now I'm back to just one. They are definitely cheaper than the bariatric Vitamins, and you can get coupons in the paper periodically. I like the unjury, and I order from their website. Even with shipping it is cheaper than buying it at the doctor's office. So annoying! Like they are not getting enough money from me and my insurance company!
