    Early Soft Foods

Wow, pizza in 30 min..it takes me 90 min to drink a Protein shake and I'm 18 days post op. I personally think about the "bad" foods but it is all in my head because I am not actually hungry. I'm just taking this one day at a time. I am now in my soft/puree phase. Variety seems to sound like it is the hard part for everyone. Also, it takes a lot of planning to do good & not evil (lol). @Butterthebean....you always make me smile with your comments (which I take to lighten the mood). Best wishes to everyone to making it through the post op diets (including myself)!!!
  3. How long posts op are you? I can see a BIG difference! I bet you feel great!!

    I Want To Cry... :(

I had to have a 2yr weight history...my pcp pulled from my past visits. I also had to do 3 months NUT visits. Just stay as busy as possible...I know it is hard when you want something so badly and have to wait. Wishing you a speedy 6 mths!!!

    The First Few Days

I didn't like plain Water much the first couple of weeks either. I survived off of Fruit 2 O....the flavors were light and not overpowering. The sipping is a bit of an adjustment!!! Works to get your brain to SLOW down ;-}. It is funny how liquids go down now...sounds like a system of funnels in there with all of the gurgling! Post op day 5/6, I had a bad gad bubble right at the top of my breast bone...fortunately a lot of walking and was gone the next day. Keep up the good work before you know it this will be a distant memory and you will be reaping the rewards!!!

Hopefully Going Home In The Morning

Glad to great you are feeling better. Make sure you ask for some nausea meds you can take at home to help. Wishing you a speedy recovery...you'll feel better when you get home!!!

Is The Pain Worse Than Labor?

I too was worried about pain but just felt like I did a million situps. The only major discomfort is the incision where they remove your stomach. I would recommend an ace bandage for tummy support. You will be tired, sore and a little bloated but much easier then labor. I also had a nausea patch that I asked for (put on night before surgery and lasts for 3 days). I attribute this to no nausea post op. You will need to rest the first week but will feel a lot better during week two. Everyone does experience their own moments of discomfort but in general I think it is not too bad considering the type of surgery. Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery after surgery!!!

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Hi all...I'm a nurse too LPN finishing my BSN (2nd degree). I currently work as a part time school nurse. I was just sleeved on 7/17 and doing great!!! For those with upcoming surgeries ask about getting a scopolamine patch to put on the night before surgery. It was a god send and I feel this kept me free of nausea post op. I am excited about what my future will be and feel so much lighter already!! Looking forward to hearing about everyone's successes!!

    Here We Go!

    Congrats!! You will do GREAT!!!
  11. First off welcome and congratulations on being approved. I only had a 24hr clear liquid diet prior to surgery but my dr has his patients do a 2 week pre-op based on their pre-exisiting weight, conditions, etc. Were you supposed to have lost weight before next week? Try not to stress yourself out too much. I can offer that my dr gave me a nausea patch to put on the night before surgery and it lasts for 3 days. I can say that I believe that this prevented me from having nausea post-op. Good luck and keep us posted on how your surgery goes

    A Few Questions.

Your mind does play with you. I am 16 days post op and not physically hungry but definitely mentally hungry. It takes me about 90 min to drink a Protein Drink. At your stage, I was just getting in small sips. Most doctors will tell you to not worry so much about Protein the first week but focus on fluids in general to stay hydrated. You might want to take the Milk of Mag or Colace to prevent constipation. It will get easier everyday. You have given yourself a BIG gift and are doing GREAT! Just take it easy and get lots of rest!

    Post Op Pain Killer

I was sent home with Percocet pill form. I just broke in half (pills had line) and took. No issues here taking pills. I have to say no real pain other than big incision other just felt like did a million situps. So many variables to whether you will personally experience pain and how much. I have noticed that those that have hernia repairs seems to have a little but more discomfort. You are right that the experience fades overtime. Just take your meds if you need them..you will go great!!!!

Protein Shakes Only Twice A Week?

I just had my 2 wk post op appt on Tuesday and was told 1 Protein shake (30 g) a day and try to get the other 30-45 g from food. Boy, this whole process is a life altering experience. Just do your best to follow their program. They understand that you are human and no one expects perfection. They are there to help us navigate our way. It will take time to learn what works for you. You have made the first step to be healthier and should be proud of yourself!!

    Early Soft Foods

Also, forgot that the broth off of egg drop soup helped a lot. I would just drain off the liquid from the egg and sip. I found it very soothing to my stomach and a better taste then Water and Protein shakes! Hopefully you will find something that works to get you through 1 more week. Best wishes!!
  16. It is a very weird sensation...to me it kind of feels like it is going down through a funnel! I'm 16 days post op and feeling good...getting better everyday. You are doing great! I do have to say that gastrique literally went right through me! Yucky stuff isn't it!! Get lots of rest and sip, sip, sip. That will feel like a fulltime job for awhile ;-}. Best wishes!
  17. Congrats!! In 2 weeks you will feel fabulous. Just rest and take good care of yourself. Welcome to a new start of your life!!!
  18. My paperwork has the same post op instructions for all 3 surgeries in regards to diet progressions. However, only the band and RNY are referenced as having pouches. The sleeve is still an anatomically intact digestive system but the stomach has been reduced in size by 85%. We don't have a "pouch" but more like a "banana". The nurses at my hospital can only treat bariatric patients after attending a 6 week program by the surgeon & surgical nurses. I didn't experience any of the confusion of surgery types. I suppose terminology depends on your specific dr office.

    Early Soft Foods

I know that the liquid diet is VERY hard. I am 16 days part op and have been on mushies for 2 days now. It felt like I would never get to the 2 week mark but try really hard to sick with it. I'm not sure what specific liquids your allowed to have but I can tell you what helped me. I would mix up milk, a little ice, Protein mix (any flavor you like), & sf, ff pudding mix (flavor of your choice) with a little splenda. This have me a thicker liquid that was still on my dr list. Just hang in there...what seems like an eternity now will be a distant memory before you know it. It is amazing how your brain plays tricks on you but you are strong and WILL make it through!!

    2 Questions.......

    No, titanium shouldn't go off at the airport. My mom has a titanium rod in her spine and she doesn't set off any metal detectors ;-}
  21. soccermomx2

    2 Questions.......

The staples are titanium and you will have those for life. That is neat you actually received a DVD of the surgery. Is your tongue and throat actually white? If they are you could have thrush from the antibiotics and surgery. I would check with your dr office. Glad your feeling well otherwise!

    Itchy Skin?

Yes I had something similar to hives around the incisions and a few other spots. It was the worst part of this whole experience and was attributed to the betadine used during surgery. Took Benadryl and used hydrocortisone. I had it for about a week and it is much better now.
  23. I too had my surgery on the 17th. My dr office says that the average lose in the first month is 20-25# with some losing less/more. I am only walking right now...no pulling, lifting, or hard core exercise until 1 month. I totally understand how your mind gets the better of you and you think that you should be losing like 5# day!! The first 2 weeks was taking in about 300-400 calories/day. At my appointment yesterday, they told me to start mushies and aim for 800. I have found that I feel lighter overall with the amount I have lost. Try to look at the long view of your healthier life you have given yourself. You are doing great...try not to be so hard on yourself (advice that I too struggle with ;-}).
  24. Just keep at it..it will work out!! This surgery has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. Best of luck navigating through!!
  25. Good luck...you will do GREAT!!! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
