    Where You Ever A Naysayer?

@shrinkydinkme..too funny that is what you thought. Right after my surgery, my aunt said, "You know they say that if you just eat like you had the surgery that you will lose weight just the same." WHAT!!! If it was that easy there wouldn't be any overweight people. I just said well guess I'm not one of those people...I actually needed to have the surgery to lose the weight. Lol. .Some people just don't get it!!!

    Where You Ever A Naysayer?

Yes, when I originally went in 2 yrs ago, I didn't go through because I thought it was the easy way out. 40 pounds later, I realized I couldn't do it on my own. I was sleeved 7/17 and can say with utmost certainty that it is NOT the easy way out but far from it. As for being a hypocrite, just own it!! You just weren't ready back then. It definitely is a mindset to be ready to completely change everything about your life. You can just tell others that. Anyway, RNY wasn't for you that is why your doing VSG. Your feelings are completely normal!!

The Rules - Vsg Vs Lapband

I haven't heard that you have to avoid them but they can cause gas. There are many recipes in the recipe forum that include broccoli and cauliflower. I'm almost a month out so will find out Tuesday from my NUT when I can venture into the wide world of veggies!!

    Semi New Here

Welcome!!! I was sleeved on a Tuesday too, July 17th and doing great so far. It is so fun to watch the scale go down!! I would say that the first two weeks are the must trying as you learn to drink and eat again but the benefits far outweigh the short lived inconvenience. Wishing you luck on your surgery & a speedy recovery!!

    Finally Made My Decison!

You have made a great decision. I am almost 4 weeks out and feel great...a little tired here and there but already feeling healthier. I should have done this sooner....weird to watch your body shrink after so many years of expansion (lol)

    Is This Weird ?

It really depends on a lot of things.....current weight, BMI, etc. I only had 24 hrs of clear liquids before surgery. Just follow your specific doctor's plan. You can always ask him about his plan. I did and my dr does 2 weeks liquids for patients over 300lbs. Best wishes and a speedy recovery!!!
  8. I have a similar picture from before I had kids on my refrigerator. We will be as close to those pics before you know it. I take each day as if it us a gift. I'm down 16 pounds since surgery (7/17) and whether it comes of slow or fast, I know that I'm only getting healthier!! Good luck!!
  9. I know it can be frustrating but pre-op I tried to do things to get ready for surgery and keep my mind off of the waiting. I went through my closet and got rid of anything that was too big or just didn't need anymore. I organized the rest by sizes so I would be sure not to miss any clothes I had hiding in there that I haven't been able to wear. I started keeping a journal about things I was looking forward to. I'm not a very good waiter either!! Time will fly by before you know it!!

    How Painful Was The Surgery?

I felt that it is more soreness (million situps) & not much pain. I am prone to nausea so I asked for a nausea patch which I put on night before surgery & it lasted for 3 days. I had a 50/50 chance of a drain...ended up not needing one. No pain pump just IV meds. I went home with Percocet pill form...no problems taking it. Worst part of the whole thing was drinking the gastrique the next day for the leak test. YUCK!!!! I was very bruised & sore at my large incision where my stomach came out. I used an ace bandage for support the first week & slept with one of those pillows that has arms. It made me sleep in a semi upright position....felt good & didn't aggrevate my stomach. Not too much gas..just a lot of burping. Get up & walk as much as you can. I'm almost a month out and it almost seems like a distant memory. I'll be wishing you a speedy recovery!!!

    Plethora Of ?s

Diet Swiss Miss is on my list but I never had it. There is such a wide variation to diet plans. I have my 1 mth appt next Tuesday and will see the NUT...looking forward to discussing "real food" & all of my questions!

    I'm Mourning Something Stupid.....

Could you put them on Craigslist to try and sell them? Or a consignment shop that will buy from you outright. If not, you could always find a woman's organization that helps them find jobs...many of these take donations of work clothes and you can write off on your taxes.
  13. Welcome - wow you have done great with your weight loss. I will be 3 weeks tomorrow - boy does time fly!!!
  14. Just take a deep breath and it will be alright. I am 3 weeks out today and I think you are doing great. From reading this site EVERYONE has stalls. I have lost almost 15 lbs from my surgery on the 17th and everyday the scale is different (I know I shouldn't weigh everyday but sometimes can't help myself ) . Your body probably needed time to readjust after your initial loss and from surgery....with as little as we are taking in you WILL lose weight. We can drive ourselves crazy with how much. I think a lot of people think that once we have the surgery we will drop huge amounts of weight over a short time. 14 pounds is a lot to lose in 1 month. Just don't be so hard on yourself this isn't a race (so I keep telling myself ) but a journey. If you ever feel the need to just talk it out feel free to pm me. We are strong for having made it this far and will continue to get stronger along the way!!!

    Please Help Pain

It could be your internal stitched area healing. I still have it 17 days post op but not painful....just a pulling sensation. Mine was on my left side where they pulled my stomach out...they make a deeper cut and stitch your muscle with a deep stitch. If you are concerned just give your dr office a call that is what they are there for and you will feel better knowing it is nothing major.
  18. Yes, they scheduled my surgery before insurance approval. I was told that they wouldn't schedule it if they weren't sure approval would go through. I have Federal BCBS....my approval came the week before my surgery date.

    Jewelry During Surgery

No jewelry for me either. I just left everything at home for safe keeping. That way you don't have to worry where it is at the hospital. Good luck on your surgery!!
  20. I am almost 3 weeks out and have something similar. I was told by dr that it is the deep stitched area healing where they took your stomach out. It should feel better as time goes by.

    How To Stop Worrying...

I too worried about the what ifs...but then I had to think about what I knew was in store for me if I didn't have the surgery. I HAD to have faith in my decision to get healthy, in God and my surgeon. It is a scary thing to have surgery for any reason especially elective surgery. I thought long and hard about being the one that didn't make it through and left my family for an elective procedure. BUT, then I could and probably would be leaving my family sooner by not doing something proactive. Just know you are making the choice to give your family a longer life with them and one not surrounded with weight related issues. I was anxious right up until they took me back and then a calmness came over me and I put all my effort to healing and working my program. You will do GREAT!!!

    Surgery Tomorrow!

You all will do GREAT!!! I am almost 3 weeks out and while still learning how to work my new sleeve...I feel so much lighter. I will be thinking of you and wishing you all a speedy recovery!!!
  23. I also had my surgery on the 17th...I'm so sorry your having such a difficult time. I'll be thinking of you. I can say I still feel swollen and bloated 3 weeks out. I don't think I'm like some that the swelling goes down quickly. Keep us posted!
  24. I made frequent calls to them to check on the approval process...they were always very helpful and telling me where it was in the stage of approval...they might tell you that you have a precertification # but just waiting on final approval. Calling them also lets you know when your dr office submitted the paperwork. Sometimes you have everything turned in and it can be some time before your office turns it in because you have people in front of you.
  25. My req were: 1) 3 NUT visits (mine was over 3 mths) 2) 2yr documented weight from my PCP 3) Letter of medical necessity from PCP 4) Psych visit
