  1. Thanks ladies!! My family is very supportive. Actually, everyone BUT my husband. He says I want the easy way out. That's not the case. He said try hard for 3-4 months, and if I still fail, THEN he will support my choice. He's afraid that I might die or live with complications. I'm 90 pound over weight. I could die at anytime from a heart attack or stroke.
  2. I was just approved by my gastroenterologist that its perfectly safe (I have Crohn's disease) that I have the sleeve. I'm super excited, but scared to death. I made the mistake of telling a few friends and their answer to me was that I was crazy. Ughh! I'm nervous enough. I don't need unsupportive friends.
  3. Thanks for the info. I am 35 years old (female) and need to lose 100 pounds to be at my ideal "normal" weight. I will speak to my gastro dr tomorrow to see what he thinks. I'm ready to do it, but so many people (non sleevers) are telling me I'm playing with fire by having crohns and doing the surgery.
  4. That's great to know. I go to my gastroenterologist tomorrow to get his opinion on the surgery. I was diagnosed with mild Crohns 5 years ago . I only take Pentasa as far as meds. Do you find your crohns symptoms are better from losing the weight?
  5. Do any of you sleevers have Crohn's disease? If so, has it affected you good or bad after being sleeved?
  6. Can you all give me an idea what I'd be eating about 4-6 weeks post op? How soon after surgery do you feel normal? When I say normal, I mean not feeling like you had surgery.
  7. Wow!! I can't get over your stomach in only 2 months!!! 8 weeks? How did you prevent the loose skin? That's amazing!
  8. Congrats!! I hope you have a speedy recovery. Please update us on your experience. I'm looking into doing the sleeve. (I originally chickened out)
  9. Thank you everyone. I'm weighing my options again. I think since I've gained weight 10 years ago (95 pounds to be exact) I've hid behind my hair.
  10. I was supposed to be sleeved on 9/11 and chickened out. I'm scared to death of hair loss. I have thin hair now that I'm very self conscience about. I'm scared of losing it and becoming bald. I know it sounds silly, but it freaks me out!
  11. Thanks for the reply. I've had 3 c-sections and my gallbladder removed. I'm just sooooo terrified of ready many bad stories on this blog. This blog is Great, but I wish I would not have subscribed to it until after the surgery. I'm terrified of complications.
  12. So honestly, how bad ( or not) was the surgery? Im so scared that I actually cancelled my date of 9/11. Still thinking about doing it if I can get past the fear.
  13. I just finished reading all your posts and funny enough, you spoke about Iggy too. Her story was the icing on the cake for me. Poor poor woman! I don't want to end up like that!
  14. Hi there! Just to let you know, I chickened out also. My surgery was tentatively scheduled for 9/11, and I cancelled it. I am terrified!! I decided then to exercise and try a 1200 calorie low carb diet. Have I done that yet..... NO! I have 90 pounds to lose to be at my perfect weight. I'm 34 years old, a mother of 3 kids under 13 years old and I am terrified of having something go wrong with surgery. This sounds silly, but I gave thin hair, and I'm terrified of the hair loss as well. I keep saying to my self "what it". What if I'm that small % that has a problem. Other than being fat, I have zero co morbidities. What if I have problems from the surgery?? I do not know what to do. I know EXACTLY how u feel. In fact, I'm following another sleever on the site named Iggy. She's had a horrible time. Her posts helped me in chickening out.
  15. I'm pre op, but curious. My surgeon does 1st week liquids, 3 weeks full liquids and after that soft foods. What are considered "full Liquids"?
  16. My father is a heart surgeon. He originally told me to shut my mouth and exercise. Then after 12 years if realizing its easier said than done, he said go for it. He said since I was healthy, I would tolerate the surgery fine. He also said it was my decision that only I could make. My sister is in dermatology. She is all for it. In fact, her boss- a doctor, just had it done last year and swears by it. I even spoke to her boss. She told me it was the best thing she's ever done. I'm just a big baby. I'm scared to do it. What if, I'm one of the ones with complications?! What if?! I have 3 young children. If something happens to me, and my kids lose their mother, I did it to myself. That is my biggest fear!! If I had a crystal ball, and or I was guaranteed a successful uneventful surgery, I would do it in a second.
  17. This is making me LOL. I'm in the SAME boat as you. I even went as far as canceling my surgery on 9/11 cause I was so freaked out. To top it off, my dad is a doctor and my sister is a PA, so knowing too much is not good either. Ignorance is definitely bliss. I have 90 pounds to lose and this is the only thing that will help me. I need to stop thinking negative and just do it! I freak myself out on a daily basis, change my mind like my underwear, and I'm driving everyone around me crazy.....including myself! Ughhhh!
  18. I would LOVE an answer go your last question too. I was supposed to be sleeved on 9/11 but chickened out for the same reasons you have. I'm just so scared. Like you, I read the horror stories and they stuck to me. I also "think" and over analyze everything! I'm hoping to get back on the wagon and reschedule my surgery.
  19. This is a HUGE fear of mine. If I had a think head of hair I would feel better, but my hair is so thin to begin with that if I had a mild fall out, it would be horrible. I don't think I could rock a wig either. I think that night be my biggest fear.
  20. To seasoned sleevers, Does the hair that you lose post op really grow back? I'm so scared of this as I have thin hair to begin with. I know it's crazy, but I sometimes feel I'd rather be 90 pounds overweight than bald!
  21. Doxie: you made me laugh. So nice to see the good posts . I'm pre op. was supposed to be sleeved on 9/11 but chickened out. I read to many scary posts and chickened out. Hoping to change my mind.
  22. Come on post opers! I want to read the good outcomes!
  23. Thanks ladies!! I need all the happy stories I can get! I'm so scared but I need to do this. Gayle, you look amazing!! What a big difference! Congrats!!
