  1. Welcome! My best advice is to follow ALL of your doctor's orders. Don't start bending the rules before you've even had the surgery, or you'll set yourself up for a tough time. The 2 week pre-op diet helps soften and shrink your liver so it's easier to move out of the way during surgery without damaging it. My doctor has stopped surgery before when the liver had not shrunk enough. Play it safe and follow the rules; your surgeon has them in place for a reason.
  2. This is true for diabetes. Both my parents has GB because of diabetic factors. GB has a much higher cure rate than the sleeve for diabetes.

    Surg TOMM

I found I really didn't need much. You're pretty out of it and not there very long. I brought PJ's which I never wore, the hospital gown was easier to manage. Bring a robe for walking the halls and slippers. I brought my toiletries ad Chapstick and I didn't even need all of that.

    Stomach After Surgery

Your internal staple line forms scar tissue and that's what holds everything together. The 5 hold in your belly heal pretty fast.
  6. I had my 6 month post-op appointment yesterday, with labs done ahead of time. Although I'm good at taking my vitamins, I had dangerously low levels of B12. I now have to take my recommended weekly dose every single day for 6 weeks, then re-test and find a stabilizing dose. B12 deficiency is serious and can cause permanent neurological deficits. Make sure you're getting all of that monitored post-op! I'm glad my surgeon and nutritionist are on top of things! They also said I can expect to lose about half the weight I lost the first 6 months, in my second six months, with lots of exercise. That would put me right at my goal! All in all, a fairly easy experience. The B12 has been my only complication.

    Sleeved yesterday

I felt that way for about 5 days, then steadily improved and felt awesome at 2 weeks post op.
  8. I'm 5 months post op and in the midst of my first real stall. I'm a slower loser to begin with, so it's making me nervous. I was sleeved August 6th in San Diego. I weighed 235 pre-op and I weigh 182 today. So, 53lbs gone. I'm thrilled but I'm trying to get to 145. I work out with a trainer, but I'm thinking I need to step up the cardio, fluids, and cut back on the carbs a bit (even though I don't eat many). Any other suggestions??
  9. I am 5 months post op. I started my journey at my heaviest weight of 235 lbs, and 5'6". My weight loss has been on the slower end, compared to some, but steady nonetheless. Here is a "before" picture, in a very unflattering dress, and a couple of progress shots. I am now 12lbs lighter than the most recent picture in red. My journey has been complication free. I can eat 4 ounces or so at a meal, and starches are not my friend! I avoid bread and pasta. I workout with weights 3 times a week (my trainer gives me a weekly routine) and I do cardio on the other days. I have only vomited once, when I was mindlessly eating and did not notice I was full. That never happened again after the one time. I feel great and had a great surgeon - Dr. Meuller in San Diego.
  10. My primary care doctor helped me set my goal at 145lbs, which places me in a healthy BMI range.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

I'm the same way. I think I want something and then it either doesn't taste good to me, or I can only have a couple of bites. I figure I got exactly what I wanted from this surgery. My weight loss had been slow an steady and as long as I dot want food, it will keep coming off!

    Low Bmi'ers...how Long To Goal?

I have a lower BMI too and find I'm averaging 2.4 lbs a week. I'm happy with that!
  13. I'm 3 months out and can take whatever I want, no meds restrictions. In fact, I have a sinus infection and just got everything I always took pre-op at the drug store plus antibiotics from my Dr.

When Can I Eat Raw Friuts And Veggies?

I just had my 3 month post op this week and was cleared for raw veggies and fruit with skin on it. Don't try it yet, especially if it's acidic.

    Sluggish 1 Month Out

This is super normal. I'm 3 months out and still have sluggish days. At 1 month post op you're body is still using energy to heal. It gets better.

    Whole Pills Post Op

My Dr said it's fine as long as there is no enteric coating, like some vitamins have. I've been taking whole pills since week 3.

    Frustrated

It's just a stall. How far along are you? Try increasing calories and carbs for a day or two then cutting back again...that always breaks a stall for me.

    Four Month Update

You're losing at exactly the same rate I am. That is not slow! That is steady weight loss of 2-3 lbs a week. Be proud of yourself!
  19. You'll need 2-3 weeks. Even though I wasn't in pain I was exhausted. I'm a teacher too.
  20. My Dr. said it's fine to take pills of any size once you're 8 weeks out. I take huge pills and they've never bothered me at all. You're stomach can hold 5oz. One pill shouldn't cause an issue but call you're surgeon and ask.
  21. I woke up in ONEderland today. First time in 4 years. I'm so excited. I was sleeved on August 6 in San Diego with Dr. Meuller. Great experience, no complications. I have PCOS so my weight loss has been a little slower than some but a steady 2-3 lbs a week with one 3.5 week stall.

    Cheesy Experience

Melted cheese was by my nutritionist too.
  23. You may consider boarding him for a week or so post op or doggie day care. My two young boxers go to camp Bow Wow. I sent them a few more times a week for the month post op to wear them out. It worked really well. My surgeon said the #1 cause of wound infection is dogs in the bed and on furniture...a big no no for 6 weeks.
  24. I started weight training as soon as I was cleared at 4 weeks. 45lbs down and no loose skin.
