Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Well, it's time to fess up! Who had a wonderful holiday, hands up . Who was naughtly and ate foods that were really yummy but bad for you, hands up! Who put on a couple of pounds, hands up. Who is now having a problem getting back on the bandwagon, hand ups! I weighed in on Jan. 1st and I gained 2 lbs! I find that now after having lost 50 plus lbs. that I can eat more at one meal and I get hungrier, sooner. Has anyone else found this to be true? I also noticed that while eating all those delicious bad carbs, that my BM's were really hard! I am back on the bandwagon, but the honeymoon is over and my appetite is back along with all the original cravings that I had before the surgery. I'm glad that I kept up my exercise routine, otherwise I might have gained more. I'm hoping for a lose next Tues. when I weigh in again. I'll let you know. How is everyone else doing after the holidays?

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Weight loss has been very slow, but not unexpected. I also am dreading the holidays. This time of the year is really bad starting with my birthday in late Oct. then Halloween (I don't buy the candy but my grandkiddies collected them!), my 42nd anniversary, Turkey day and Christmas! All in a 2 month range! I always bake a ton of cookies every year and it is very hard NOT to taste the batter and then the end product! I plan on baking again this year---it's just something I have to do. I did make cookes a couple of weeks ago to see if I could stay away from tasting---and I did, but with the holidays and the Christmas carolls! I don't know. Does anyone know any tricks to NOT gain any weight over the holidays? Would love some imput! Hope everyone is doing well.
  3. It's so nice to have a group for us grandparents! I have 7 grandkiddies ranging from almost 7 yrs old to 2 yrs old. I also have another one on the way in Mar 2013. We just visited my son with 4 kiddies and they are very, very active. I'm so glad that I can keep up with them! The sleeve was the best decision I have made for myself, for as I go along this journey, I am discovering many things about myself--namely, old habits don't die and now my eyes are much bigger than my stomach! lol!! It's also nice to know that there are older folks who are doing the sleeve and our weight loss seems to be a bit slower, but slow and steady wins the race. Congrats to everyone!

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Hello April Sleevers! Today is my birthday and at the age of 63, I have never felt better! I'm down 51 lbs since 4/10 and I haven't been in a size 12/14 since the 70's when I wore hip hugger bell bottoms! Now that's dating myself!! lol!! I never thought that I could be this low by my birthday, which was my goal. I'm hoping to lose the last 26 lbs by my anniversary date. Just got back from visiting my grandkiddies and my daughter-in-law makes the best apple pie in the world. I wonder if that's the reason I gained a lb this week!! An apple a day keeps the dr. away--and the weight loss. But that's OK, because I am back home now and back on the bandwagon. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

OMG! sleeve evanglist, you are so right. some days I have to tell myself that I need to eat and then other days, I just want to eat everything in sight! In seems to me that if I eat carbs, then I want to eat more. But I love my carbs, I don't eat much but I still love them! As long as they are not in the house I'm fine, but I still will go looking for them anyways! lol. Keep up the great work! This has been and still is one heck of a journey, and I am loving every minute of it. I just cleaned out my closet for the 2nd time today, and my closet is very, very bare! Kept some bigger clothes just so I have something to wear. Been going to clearance sales because I really don't want to buy too much until I get ot my goal weight, which is about 26 more lbs.

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Hi April sleevers! It's been a couple of weeks and I have lost 51 lbs. As of today my BMI is 29 which means I am no longer obese! I'm just overweight. I'm so excited!! I need to lose another 22 lbs before I can be considered a "normal" weight! What a great journey this has been. I hope everyone else is doing equally well!

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Hello April Sleevers, It's been awhile since I was last on. I am so psyched! I am only 2 lbs away from NOT being obese anymore! I will only be overweight. I haven't been this low since I had my last child 32 yrs ago! It's great!! I lost 4 lbs last week, but that was because I had an incisional hernia repair and I'm just starting to eat normal again. The hernia was huge and it had many little "sister" hernia's. I no longer look 9 months pregnant! We went to the mall yesterday, and I kept looking at my reflection in the windows noting my belly wasn't there anymore! It's the greatest feeling! I can't wait for the swelling to go down so I can buy some new clothes! Kohl's and Bealls, here I come!! Hope everyone else is doing well.
  8. At 4 months out my Dr. said I should be doing 1000-1200 calories daily. I'm 5 1/2 months now and doing about 900-1000. If I eat more than that, I don't lose the weight. I'm a very slow loser and I'm losing, if I am lucky, about 1/2 to 1 lb a week now. Hope this helps!

    ~April Sleevers~

I am 5 months out and have finally lost 45 lbs. I'm only 6 lbs away from NOT being obese! I'm so excited! It's been many, many years since I've been this weight and it feels great! Thank you Dr. Jawad! My clothes look like bags and I've had to shop in my "closet" for my smaller clothes. This is the first time in my life where I actually gave away all my big clothes. Yipee!! How's everyone else doing?
  10. Holly, you may want to try the Quest protein bars. I swear by them. they have a lot of yummy flavors, have 160-210 calories per bar, 20 gms of protein, 17-18 gms fiber, and only 1-2gms sugar. They are very filling (after you have the sleeve). You can buy them on line at QuestProteinBar.com or at The Vitamin Shoppe in your hometown. I recommend the Chocolate Brownie, Strawberry Shortcake, Cashew Chew, and Apple Pie! Oh my, they are sooo good. And these bars are VERY chewy! Good Luck!

    Hi Over Sixty Sleevers!

Haven't been on for awhile, but I am doing great. Losing is very slow and I even had a 4 week stall that really was freaking me out. I'm losing weight again, about 1 lb a week and I am now down 43 lbs pre op, 36 post op. My clothes are a bit baggy and I'm so glad I had my closet to "shop" in. You know how it is when you yo-yo diet for 44 years!! Many different sizes. This time around, I gave all my big clothes away. Never did that in the past. I WILL NOT gain this weight back!!! Hope everyone else is doing great!

    Hello, Everyone!

Ronie, you are doing the right thing. You are just having cold feet at the moment. I was sleeved on 4/10 and I'm doing great. I'm not saying that it is easy, but the sleeve is just one more tool to use to lose weight. This site is a God-sent. It has calmed a lot of my concerns and I know that I am not alone in this journey. It's also good to have a forum for us older folks. We tend to lose weight slower than the 20-30 yr olds! Let us know when you are having your surgery and we will be there to support you.

    ~April Sleevers~

The one thing that I have learned about myself through this whole journey, is that old habits die hard. I can't believe that I still have such a great appetite and I still find myself grazing at night. I was really hoping that the urge to graze would have vanished after the surgery. I was wrong. Some days are better than others, but each day is still a struggle. I find that if I keep a food journal, I can control my munchies at night. During the day I don't have a problem. The journal will also let you know if you are eating too much, I believe that we all can gain the weight back by eating too many calories. No one said that this would be easy, but Randaljohn, you have done so well so far and you will lose the rest of the weight. Keep a jounal, I know it's a pain, but try it for a week and see where your weakness' are. This might help! Good luck!

    ~April Sleevers~

After a 5 week stall I have finally lost 3 lbs this past week!! Yipee!!! But I also decreased my caloric intake from almost 1100 calories to 900 calories. I'm still getting at least 70-90 gms of protein a day and I try to get at least 50-60 fluid ozs. For me, it's tough getting all 64 oz in. It's been 21 weeks since I was sleeved. Anyone else having a hard time losing weight. I'm down 42 lbs with 35 more to go and I rejoice in that number, but it's coming off so slow. It's tough having a body that has fat as it's BFF(best friend forever!).Hope everyone else is doing fine.

    April Sleevers Losing Hair?

Oh my goodness, Am I the only one not losing my hair? I was sleeved 4/10, lost 39 lbs and so far no hair loss. Taking Biotin and zinc like my doctor told me too and eating lots and lots of protein. Hope your hair stops falling out soon!
  16. Really cute, I can relate to several of them!
  17. Hi! I just heard this rumor that after we have this surgery, we are uninsurable for 5 years, if you try to move to a different insurance company than the one you have now. My friend who had the sleeve done 2 days after I did was thinking of quiting her job where she now gets her insurance thru until she heard that no insurance company will pick her up because she had the sleeve. Anyone else hear or know about this?
  18. Thanks for all the replys. It does seem strange that an insurance wouldn't pick you up because of this surgery. After all, we are all getting healthy and in the long run, it will cost the insurance companies a lot less to carry us. This is why we are all going to this extreme to get healthy!!

    ~April Sleevers~

I was sleeved on 4/10 and I have been taking biotin and zinc as my doctor recommended and have not had any hair lose yet---hopefully that will stay. Also on the protein formula---my doctor told us 80-100 gms of protein a day, which I have been managing to do but with that formula, I would only need to eat 62.16 gms a day. This would mean I could eat more salads and fruit! Maybe I'll give it a try. Miss the fruit and veggies because of all that protein we have to eat!!

    ~April Sleevers~

Hi! I was sleeved on April 10th. I'm down 38 lbs and I have been in a stall now for 2 weeks. I get at least 80-100 gms of protein a day and I exercise (treadmill, weights, and pool walking) almost every day. Hoping the stall will unstick by next week when I weigh in again.

    ~April Sleevers~

Hi! I haven't been on here for awhile, but i was sleeved on April 10th. I'm doing great. Lost 36 lbs so far and have a lot of energy. We just got back from a 3 week vacation and even though i didn't exercise much, but grandkiddies kept me pretty busy. I also ate a lot of foods that I shouldn't but I still lost 3 lbs. Couldn't believe it when I got home. I am now back on the bandwagon and hopefully I will continue to lose the weight I need to lose. I am no longer diabetic or hypertensive and I'm so happy that I decided to get healthy so that I can enjoy all my little munchkins, who range in age from 6 1/2 to 1 1/2. (there are 7 of them). How is everyone else doing?

    Hi Over Sixty Sleevers!

Hi! I was sleeved on April 10th and have lost 36 lbs so far. I'm doing great. what is even greater is that I am no longer diabetic or hypertensive, which was my original goal. I still seem to have problems getting all of my fluids and proteins in, especially when the day is so busy. I'm retired and don't seem to have enough time in the day to do everything! Go figure. I'm so glad that their is this forum for over 60 because it seems most of the sleevers are in their 20's to 40's and they seem to be losing weight faster than us older folks! I just hope and pray it continues to come off. We just got back from a 3 week vacation to see our kids and I ate all kinds of things I shouldn't but in small amounts of course. I lost 3 lbs! Boy was I surprized. I know that if I did not have the surgery, I would have gained at least 5 lbs and kept it on. Now I'm back home eating the right foods again. Hope everyone else is doing great!

    ~April Sleevers~

I had surgery on 4/10/12 and I am doing great! I can't believe all the energy I have. I'm able to get all the protein and fluids in daily and I've gone back to our fitness center and I'm doing usually 45-60 minutes on the treadmill at 3.3 mph and 10 incline! I usually also take a walk around our neighborhood, about 1 1/2 miles. I'm averaging between 500-600 calories daily but now I am at a stall at losing weight. I haven't lost anything since last week. So in 3 1/2 weeks I lost a total of 18 lbs, but 7 of those pounds were 2 weeks pre-op. I understand though that this is normal. I just hope it doesn't last much longer! It gets very discouraging when you are exercising so much (burning more calories than consuming). But Ill keep plugging away. How are you doing?
