HI dsoprano40! I'm definitely in So. Cal - South Bay area. I'm just over 34 weeks post-op, starting weight 285 and down to 171 at the doctor's office yesterday. Amazing experience. I'd love to offer any assistance I can if you have any questions and this is hands down the best RNY forum on the net. Lots and lots of great folks here!!

You're certainly welcome. My lab is just shy of 100 lbs and I have to agree with you - hurts like hell! LOL! It was totally an accident. She snapped at a spray bottle of topical antiobiotic the vet gave me to spray on a couple of hot spots she developed on her neck as the result of allergies. She got the bottle - my thumb just happened to be in the way. Puncture wounds are healing nicely but the multiple fractures are going to take some time. Other than writing, I'm getting pretty good at using my left hand! Have a great day!!

I'm 34 weeks out and a coffee drinker both pre-op and post-op. I usually drink decaf since the surgery but if I'm out and about and caffeinated is all I can get - I go for it. Haven't had any problems but I probably didn't have any caffeinated coffee for at least four months following surgery. I was quite worried about switching to decaf as I was not a big fan pre-op. But I drink Keurig coffee at home and their decaf is very close to being every bit as good as their caffeinated. I drink two to three cups a day with Splenda and flavored creamers. Great "snack" or for dessert - low calorie, good for you (loaded with antioxidants) and filling. Highly recommended!

I'd flirt with you any time Vamp!! LOL!!! -
Good for you!! Don't push too hard. It's all about "lifestyle changes" and getting and staying active is, I think, a big part of it. When I first started walking it was often a chore that I had to force myself to do. Then somewhere around three months or so of walking at least four times a week (more if possible) I suddenly discovered that I was addicted to it. If I don't walk for more than a couple of days I get irritable I can feel the difference, not only physically but mentally as well. Now I really look forward to and my black lab loves it even more than I do!! LOL!!

I so agree with "I just follow what ever my doctors say"!! Focus on following the protocol and doing whatever your doctors say and let the weight take care of itself. Amen!!

Great job Vamp! You're looking (and sounding) great!! -
Sending lots of white light!! My wife and I had surgeries seven weeks apart. I really think it makes the whole process easier but lots of folks have done it independently. You're gonna love the new you!!

When you guys are up to it, walking usually helps with the post-op pain. No lifting, but walking is a good thing. You don't want to get carried away with it but a little more each day has helped a lot of folks.

OK, just to make sure we're all on the same page, I'm a guy (Dave) and I've been married to my wife, my best friend and my soul mate for 36 amazing years. That said, I would find it deliciously flattering if a woman chose to flirt with me! Having lost 113 pounds, I feel better about myself than I have in a very, very long time. I don't think my feet would hit the ground for a week if someone paid me the wonderful compliment of flirting with me. And I think it would be the same boost to my wife's self esteem if someone flirted with her. With the deepest respect for opinions that differ.

I've read so many great things about the bullet mixers. Including many comments here on the forum. Gotta get me one of those! -
My grandma always said "It doesn't matter where you get your appetite as long as you order home cooking!"

2nd that! It will pass and then the really fun part begins!!

Helpful Tools That Help You With Your Rny Routines?

We buy a ton of one cup plastic containers like Glad or Rubbermaid. Then we cook up a big pot of turkey chili, turkey shepherd's pie, etc. Put the meals in the one cup containers and then freeze them. And we have a similar routine with foods that we buy at the store (pre cooked shrimp for example). Break them down into individual servings, vacuum wrap them and then freeze. Makes breakfast, lunch or dinner a snap!! -
I think most of us in the RNY club have a long history of unsuccessful attempts to lose weight and keep it off. Whether you call it conditioning or nerves or whatever, it's perfectly normal to have some misgivings. Like many have seen me say before - focus on following the protocol and the weight will take care of itself. Sometimes you lose very quickly, other times it slows down and sometimes you go through a period of not losing at all. It's all part of the process. Hang in there! Follow the protocol. Stay away from the scales for a week or two. You're gonna love the new you!!
