  1. What a great topic. I don't even have a band and I still love it...
  2. Make sure you're getting your protein in somehow. It helps you keep up, and it helps you lose weight...
  3. Cool, there's a line through my words. I've heard of the plication, you can have double benefit, that's awesome...Take care and good luck...
  4. Filled out history papers for my band/follow up dr. today, surgery August 28th seems more real now.

  5. Smile! You're going to feel sooooo good after you have this done and lose the weight!!!!
  6. I chose the lap-band because it is less invasive than the sleeve (my other consideration) and because I felt like I would be better able to stop the loss-process when I wanted to better than with the sleeve. My bmi is only 32,so the band seemed like the better choice esp. for me. I don't like the idea of having 80% of my stomache gone forever...But I think the sleeve is an awesome tool for anyone needing wt. loss surgery with a little higher bmi than me.
  7. I love my band ,(gertrude), but she's in Mexico right now, we will be united on August 28th! I can hardly wait to get started on my wt. loss journey. Time is going by slow for me while waiting... I leave out on August 27th for San Diego, and will be banded the next day. I will love my band & try to take good care of it.
  8. DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM! Plainly tell them " i'm going to do it! " If they're not supportive walk away... You have to do this for YOU, not for them...I had the same problem at work and I nipped it in the bud and just quit telling anyone...They'll be happy for you when you lose the weight, and then you can say " i told you so".

What Kind Of Job Do You Have?

I'm a nurse, and can delegate the lifing of people/supplies for a while. I plan to do this for atleast 3 wks or so to be safe. I'm not going on "light duty" or anything but just plan to not lift on anyone for a while. Take care...

    Recovery Time?

I'm off work 8 days after surgery so I appreciated your question. I am a nurse and can delegate on the llifting part of my job for a while. I was wondering the same thing about how i would feel in a week. Good luck to you...

    First Post-Op Visit

That's great for both of you.... I feel good about my decision when i hear things like this....Good luck and keep in touch.
  12. I chose the lapband for the very same reasons that you did. I didn;t choose it because it was cheaper, cause in the long run iit's not. I didn't like the idea of having 80% of my stomache gone forever as in the sleeve. I have a lower BMI than some and I wanted something that I could kindof control myself a little how much restriciton I have. I hope I never have to have it taken out...

Lower Bmi: 5'5 And 219lbs. Anyone Like Me?

Im 5'3" and I weigh 185, my BMI is around 32 give or take a little. I am self-pay of course, the US hasn't quite caught up with the FDA's lowering of the Bmi qualifications to 30 to have surgery yet..

    Lets Be Proud

Bless both your hearts going to school and raising family's and being banded in the middle of all of it.... I commend you for alll you do...I'm a nurse, so I realize all that you're going through. I'm working on my bachelor's in nursing now at a slow pace though.

    Youngster Bandster??

cassiem93 is 24 years old, she's my band -buddy.
  20. I'm sure if you tell anyone you're having surgery you'll get all kinds of lap-band advice as well. I know I did last month. My family knows more about lap-band surgery than my surgeon. Just ask them!!!!
  21. I'm going back to day-shift at work August 1st! I have gained 20 pounds since starting night-shift about 5 months ago, I think being on daysshift will help with my eating habits very much!!

    Duration Of Pre-Op Diet?

The liquid diet(from what I have read/heard) is to shrink the liver & fat around the stomache to make surgery easier/safer. My surgeon said it depends on your BMI how long you have to be on pre-op diet. Makes sense to me I guess...The higher the bmi the more fat that is around the stomache to interfere with the procedure...
  23. No as a matter of fact my surgeon said to stop taking blood thinners 2 wks before surgery. But every surgeon is different...
  24. I'm reading how everyone is starting their pre-op diets for august except for me. I'm august 28th and have to be on pre-op liquid diet for 3 days. My BMI is not real high is why I only have to do 3 days. I can't wait to start preop diet because I'll know it's almost time....Good luck to all of you...
