  1. I will have my first visit with my surgeon Monday. His office emailed instructions for Pre-op diet that I need to start 5 days before surgery. I'm required to have 2 Protein Shakes per day. Is ther a minimum or maximum amount of Protein that I should make sure I follow for each shake? Thanks Dana
  2. Wearing my original wedding ring.
  3. I have figured out one of the best things that I am looking forward to will be wearing my wedding ring again. I haven't been able to wear it for about 18 years. I've had to wear bigger non-original rings instead. Nothing like wearing the simple band that we chose together. Getting banded July 26. Dana

    Anyone Getting Banded In July?

I'm getting banded July 26. Texas Teacher Insurance (BCBS) requires surgeries at only certain centers. I was assigned one closest to me. The surgeon is at that center once per month. I was hoping for sooner, but I guess this will do. My insurance is paying 80%, so I'm good with that. No major hoops to jump through. Just BMI is taken into consideration to start the process. Dana

Older Ladies - have a question

My husband is going through treatment for prostrate cancer. He has to take female hormone shots. I think it is funny that is going through hot flashes with me, although he has a medicine that can make them less severe. I think all men should go through a hot flash at least once. He now sees what I've been going through for a couple of years. Unfortunately we are freezing our daughter out of the house.

Does Anyone Else Have A Controlling Mother ????

My mom is very similar. I haven't told her anything yet. I'm waiting until right before the surgery. She gets fixated on one thing & won't let go.

So Glad I Didnt Get The Sleeve

I thought about both band & sleeve. I think what made up my mind were the commercials & print ads for "sleeve reversal". I didn't see anything like that for the band.
  8. I am also a Type I diabetic. I have my psych & nutrition appointments tomorrow. Good luck to you. We will always be diabetic, but maybe cut way down on our insulin.

    So How Honest Were You....

I have told my daughter and my husband. They live with me and I have no other children. I have told some of my fellow math teachers who will see me some during workshops this summer. I have not told my parents who live in another part of the state and also in the same town as my sister. I will tell them all after I get my surgery date. If I told my mother right now she would bug me every day about when I was going to get the surgery done and my dad would worry unecessarily. My dad never says anything about my weight, but my mother is not so kind. I have thought about this for years and havce even looked into it. A few years ago I tried to do this, but there were so many hoops to jump through for my insurance company. This past year, my insurance company changed their policy. I can't wait to get this done. As soon as I know my surgery date, everybody will know!
  10. Oooooh! So true on clipping toenails & tying shoes. Good ones.
  11. I am looking forward to not getting winded walking from my car to my classroom or not getting winded when I have to climb a flight of stairs. I look forward to feeling better and reducing my medication. I look forward to shopping in the "regular" clothes department. But most of all, I look forward to a longer life.
  12. I just joined today. So far, I've been approved by my insurance for the lap band except for a letter from my primary care doctor about one of my medications. Last week, I had my first consultation and a physical. I have my psych exam & meet with a nutritionist this coming Monday. What should I expect from these appointments on Monday? What comes next? I am a Type I diabetic. I know that I will always have diabetes, but I hope that losing weight will make my diabetic complications fewer. I am a teacher and I am hoping that I can have the time consuming part behind me before I go back to school in the fall. I hope this is possible.

    What's Next?

Thank you for the information. I think there was something mentioned about an EKG. Don't know if they'll do it Monday or on another day. I have sleep apnea and a CPAP machine so I don't have to worry about that. I'm getting very excited about doing this. I hope that I don't have to do the pre-op diet for very long and can get going ASAP.
