I hate GERD and I have been really struggling with it lately. Everytime I eat, I cough and cough and cough - sometimes until I throw up. When I lay down at night - same thing, even though I haven't eaten for 7+ hours usually! I was really hoping that it would be totally fixed from the surgery... anyone else? Did it heal it for anyone?

I greatly appreciate all of you taking the time to respond. I have learned so much already! That is probably the thing I want to learn the most - how to eat the way I KNOW to eat to stay healthy. I know that the VSG is my tool to ensure that my portions are controlled. I lost 75 lbs on Atkins a few years and felt so good but between the plateau and the skin, I gave up and ate my way back up to my max weight again. I KNOW how to eat and I know now that I will have to eat that way forever to be successful. I am just grateful that I have the ability to have the VSG to keep me moving in the right direction. I can do this!

I can see your point. I see from your ticker that you lost a lot of weight in the short two months since your sleeve! Congratulations!! I really hope that I follow in your footsteps. I want my life back and I want to never return to this time in my life. I am so ready to be free!!

I have no experience with that but I would have to *guess* that you would lose major weight. Carbs help to keep weight on us as far as I am concerned. I wasn't planning to eat anything but protein and very low carbs once I heal. Maybe someone with experience will have a different take on this..?

Welcome! So am I understanding you correctly that you went in for a full gastric bypass but got a VSG instead? If so, from what I have learned, you are lucky! I chose the VSG to avoid all of the malnutrition problems of a bypass and I am getting my sleeve on July 23rd. I would say that 11 pounds in a week sounds pretty darn amazing! Congratulations!!!!

I haven't been sleeved yet, but I have lost 75 pounds before with Atkins and I can tell you when the weight starts coming off, like it sure has for you, (way to go, by the way!) you start to care again. You start to care about your clothes and your hair and it all matters again. It's a good sign, girl! It means your self-esteem is growing and repairing and it should! You look great and you're getting even better with every passing day. Enjoy the attention and RELAX. You're going to get more of it !! Best wishes!

I wondered... my husband told me I would have liquid in, liquid out, but I doubted him. LOL Now I know. I start on the liquid in a couple of weeks.

I certainly haven't been in those shoes, but it seems like you will be healed enough by then to do fine. I am a Realtor in Washington State, so I commend you on your wise choice to buy a home now before the prices go up any more than they have! Best of luck on your surgery AND home buying!
