  1. great post. My experience is similar to yours.....satisfied with the end result (lol...the difference between my story and yours is that I didn't meet Ortiz until AFTER the surgery....which was/is still annoying), but talked to him a bunch the next day. Are you thinking about going back for plastics when your weight stabilizes? Not much on this site about Ariel Center.....I know that the OCC had a relationship with a dentist which is no longer, but wondered, since Dr. Ortiz is also plastics, whether that was an option for you.

  2. Dottie, I am also a Dr. Ariel Ortiz patient (August 2012); wondering why you weren't considering the Ariel Center for plastics......I had originally chosen Dr. Ortiz/OCC because of the connection with Ariel Center, but now am re-considering and wondering if Dr. Saucedo, with doing so many, and haven't heard of any complications so far (other than seromas, which is a risk anywhere)....

  3. I had sleeve surgery with Dr. Ortiz last August. The thing was helpful that is missing.....a heating pad. I had it on at the marriott as I was achy, then in the airport, I found plug and got much more comfy with the heating pad....

Protein powders is another....I got the Unjury sample pack and the Nectrax sample pack...took two unflavored and several of the Nectrax so I could have something if I really didi get hungry. I think I added the unflavored to the chicken broth at Marriott.

  4. Oh Jordan1923 thank you so much for that! Answers so many of my questions! Just a couple more if you don't mind. First off' date=' how are you doing now that you are home? Second and I know this is probably silly, but what did you do for you phone so that you didn't have international roaming? Really concerned if we should get a prepaid or what, but my husband and I are both going so I really want to be able to keep in touch with the kids. And lastly do you have any recommendations as to Protein drinks/shakes ect that you tried before surgery? I have bought some Unjury samples that I plan to try but haven't yet.[/quote']

I used google chat and Facebook chat to talk......clinic has phone you can use. I brought injury sample and mixed with Soup or Water.

Your preop diet is in the email material...you have three/four choices of hat to do.

Am doing great, have liked via phone with them several times. Am 6 weeks out, no probs so far!

  5. tipped the driver from the clinic who picked me up at airport and took back - $30 as he got us back through border quickly. didn't tip the driver who took back and forth from clinic/hotel as it was hotel van. (note: when I checked out on first day and had luggage to the clinic, I did tip, but that was because of the luggage). Ate at hotel, had the free broth, tipped a buck each time....

did not tip the hotel cleaner as they did not EVER bring the Water like supposed to....and came very very late in the day (early evening) to clean room (the Marriott)

  6. sorry it took so long for me to respond -- my ipad lost its log in informationand I could not remember it.

I was sleeved by Dr. Ortiz on 8/13; experience went very smoothly. I found another patient on the same day on OCC's forums and we have become friends. I traveled alone and she had daughter who had VSG in February in Canada and her husband with her, so I had company during the days I was there in Mexico.

Nursing staff was wonderful. First time ever that someone got a IV in the first time without hurting me....they were very attentive. Dr. Ortiz was informative and great to talk with. I have had a couple occasions to call them and have spoken with Dr. Soo, who is very nice.

I think folks go with cheaper and there's a lot of talk about the other docs (and Ortiz is definitely not cheaper). His coordinator doesn't seem to be as involved as the other TJ docs, but then again, I didn't need her to be. I will be going back there in a year for the plastics and that was one of the reasons I chose OCC --- to establish a relationship for the next surgery to be done as well.

    Good luck!!

  7. I meant reactivating, dang iPhone.

make a new account -- with a new email account. When you activiate the new Facebook account, go in to your account settings and set all for friends only viewing. I have two accounts...my personal one, which only friends (not even friends of friends can see my posts, pictures, etc.) can view and then I have my business account -- which anyone can see, but no one can post to without my permission. The FB group is set to secret, so none of your postings will show in anyone's sidebar if you set your settings to the extreme....

  8. okay, so I turned off noti

fications in my email from VST as I didn't want my staff to be logging into my mail and being nosy, and then found out I see NO notifications at all, so thought everyone on the August Sleeve Board had totally stopped posting!!!

So, how are we? Anyone have infections/leaks/worries? What are you allowed to eat at this point? or not?

I am on full liquids until another two weeks (day 22 I can have soft food).....I am tired of Soup already!!!

  9. Hey all!

I will admit I haven't been the best about reading the posts in here since it got so huge! I just thought I'd give an update since my surgery was yesterday.

I seem to be one of the people with lots of nausea (boo!) I threw up blood most of the night. I am a revision surgery so I'm sure there's more trauma with them removing scar tissue, etc...

I am feeling better this morning, it's amazing, the pain is just about the same as it was getting my band placed! It's just the nausea that's killing me! Luckily the anti-nausea meds helped me sleep.< /p>

The best thing I did was bring two of our down comforters from home in space bags for my husband and I. I didn't do this last time and the sheets were too thin here. I've been sleeping lots better with my cozy banket.

I hope all you sleevers are going great!

    Love to you all

    Erika :)

oh, I hope you are feeling better! My best thing was to buy a heating pad and bring it....

  10. Wow! It's been a while since I've posted, but a HUGE Congratulations to everyone that has had their surgery! August is bread with awesome soon to be healthier people. I'm glad that everyone is recovering well. That is very motivating to see going in. This forum is great! To all the soon to be sleeved twins on Aug 13th, I wish you good luck and God's speedy recovery. I'll see you on the losing side of things! :)

where are you having surgery? Hope things go well!

  11. I have worked in surgery for over 20 yrs. The doctor @ our hospital has done by passes and bands for 8 yrs but has only been doing sleeves for almost 2 yrs....this is what I've been waiting for! Plus in Jan. `our insurance is covering it like any other surgery! My surgery is scheduled for Aug. 13th...excited but also nervous...I know too much! Pre-op, since Jan. I'm down 24 lbs....I can't wait for my new future!!

come on over to the August Sleevers group and then join our FB group too. I am also getting sleeved on monday....

  12. OK....so I hit a bump in the road...I'm still in the hospital. I had a pin hole leak...n had to go back in surgery Wednesday.... the day I should've went home. I am feeling a lot better n should be home by Sunday. At least it was found before I went home....out of the thousands of surgeries he has performed.. I am his first leak.

extra warm fuzzy thought for YOU!!

this needs a DISlike button. Get well soon.

  13. cross posted in the August 13th Sleeve Group and on the FB page:

okay, I am an organizer of sorts. So, the August 13thers (and the slightly before and slightly after) who are in Tijuana......I believe at least two/three of the docs use the Marriott. I am traveling alone so by Wednesday, I will be stir crazy for someone to talk to. Who else is gonna be at the Marriott? Let's pm each other and get something going!!! I think a conga line dance around the yummy buffet that we can't enjoy will be a good start. :P :P

  14. Crossposted on the big list and the FB list:

  15. aarrrrhhhh, I would feel ever so much more positive about the whole experience if I hadn't gained .8 pounds between yesterday and today on the pre-op diet (protein drinks all day and a dinner of approximately 350 calories....). The last time I seriously dieted, was optifast--lost 17 lbs the first week and then 2 lbs in the next EIGHT weeks while maintaining a steady 800 calories a day. (okay, I admit it, I don't exercise), I figure my body thought I was in a coma and shut down the metabolism completely. So, wasn't expecting much with the preop.....finally hit 10 pounds after about 1.5 weeks but to GO BACKWARD (YES, I know it is probably Water weight, but STILLLLL.......).

anyone else GAINING weight on the pre -op?
