mountainnurse got a reaction from Angelizz10 in I Swallowed Gum!!Thanks guys! If I have pain, I'll call my doctor. I don't think I'm supposed to chew it either. I didn't know it puts air in the pouch. Lesson learned☺

mountainnurse reacted to msc430 in I Swallowed Gum!!That is soooo weird! I swallowed my gum today as well. I am having a little discomfort mid back, but my liquids are passing through without a problem. What a coincidence!

mountainnurse got a reaction from kll724 in Two Months Later, Still No FillWow. I think 20lbs in 8 weeks is pretty darn good I was banded June 8. I've lost 25. I've had one fill. I thought I was doing good?!

mountainnurse reacted to Missy05.29.12 in Chick Fil A Saved The Day!!!I was traveling today and it ended up taking longer than expected so I was not prepared and I had no time to stop to sit and eat.
I panicked...until I remembered that Chick-Fil-A now serves grilled chicken nuggets on the kids menu. I ordered 6 grilled chicken nuggets, fruit, and an unsweetened tea (for later) and it was awesome!!! The chicken probably had more salt than I would have used if i had cooked it at home, but it was still a much better choice than some other options.
Chicken = 110 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, & 20 grams of Protein
Fruit = 65 calories & 0 fat
Talking about saving the day! I could have had a major cheat situation but I avoided it!!!
Next time I will be more prepared, but this low fat, low calorie option did the trick today :-)

mountainnurse got a reaction from PattyGirl66 in FruitHi everyone! I'm three weeks out and have been really enjoying watermelon! Since I'm still on mushies, I make a protein shake each morning with protein powder, nf plain Greek yogurt, frozen fruit (berries, bananas, peaches, whatever) and fresh spinach or kale and sometimes carrots. It's delicious! I can never finish the whole serving so I save the rest for my afternoon 'boost'.

mountainnurse reacted to Thats All Folks in Help. Im Gaining WeightThe first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing not losing. For now, concentrate on following the doctor's orders and the post op diet. Losing will come later.
In the meantime, do try to make sure what you're drinking is good for you. If you're drinking say, loads of fruit juice, you may as well be drinking pure sugar. I know it's hard when on the liquids stage because choices are so limited already, but if you can try to make healthy choices even now it'll help you in the future.

mountainnurse reacted to jennifer1 in Help. Im Gaining Weightjust a warning. when you get to mushies and soft foods the scale may go up as well. dont be ready to jump off the cliff like i was. it is perfectly normal. we werent made to survive off liquids only so your body is gonna be confused and start holding on to food cuz you've been on liquids. dont panic it's normal. like the above poster said the first 4-5 weeks are about healing not weight loss. be patient( and trust me i know how hard that is), but this is a journey not a race..best wishes on your journey

mountainnurse got a reaction from 2muchfun in I'm At Newbie At This!Wow! I was banded on the 8th. 25lbs is fantastic!!! Great job! I know it's hard, how do we get through this? For me, protein and keeping very busy is helpful. Keep it up!

mountainnurse reacted to mbmama in Just Had To Share My Nsv!Monday will be 2 weeks post-op. Today I put on my wedding ring for the first time in 8 months. And for the first time in 3 years, my feet aren't sore and swollen. I am down 20 pounds since pre-op which isn't too shabby either. I hope this is the start of the new me!!!

mountainnurse reacted to Sombra1718 in Please Help Me Plan :)So I thought it might be fun (and very, very helpful for myself and others) to try to generate some menu ideas. I do not do well without a plan and it takes me FOREVER! to write up menus for myself. I know we cannot all eat the same things sometimes but who better to know what a good lapband day should look like than my fellow lapbanders. So if you could tell me what you would eat for a whole day while following the lapband rules and even how you prepare the food (if you like) I would be so very appreciative

mountainnurse reacted to SageTracey in I Don't Want To Go To The Gym!! But No Work Means No Results!!You don't have to go to the gym to get your exercise in. In fact, I have not set foot in the gym and have lost 62kg. The most successful exercise routine is the one that you enjoy because you will keep on doing them. For me, that is cycling, dancing, walking and swimming.
Good luck on finding an exercise that you enjoy.

mountainnurse reacted to pink dahlia in I'm Hoping With Wheight Loss I CanSince ive lost some weight i have lots more self confidence because i look and feel better. the compliments dont hurt either, especially from men ! ( Im married , not dead !) The cuter clothes are in a smaller size, i have more energy , im sleeping better and am able to run a little. Im wearing a belt ! A cute one ! etc. One day after i had lost about 30 lbs i had an unexpected nsv. I sat down on the couch to paint my toenails, and i very easily pulled my heel up to my rear where i could easily reach my feet . i had not been able to paint my own toenails comfortably in many , many years because my big ol' stomach had been in the way ! Not anymore ! So im looking forward to hiking, riding a horse , being a runner, dropping more weight, having my pants get too big again, getting rid of my sleep apnea machine, climbing in to our fishing boat without rocking it, etc................im saving money because i eat less, so i spend it at Goodwill on clothes that will fit my shrinking body !

mountainnurse reacted to isit5yet in Dental Cleaning: FunnyThought you all would enjoy this, and it's actually good advice. Don't eat before getting your teeth cleaned. Seriously. I know most people don't eat anyway because we don't want stinky breath before the appointment, however my appointment was at 9am - after being awake for three hours, getting ready for work, getting the kiddo ready for preschool, etc.
I grabbed some turkey slices and a slice of cheese for a good, quick Protein Breakfast. I ate it about 15mins before my appointment. Bad idea. As the dentist chair was going down with my head slightly below horizonal I thought, "Oh sh*t, my breakfast is still in my pouch and not in my stomach. With nothing stopping it from coming back up, omg, calm down, this is not going to be good *weird hiccup burp*." I had to stop the cleaning a few times, apologizing profusely (my hygenist knows about the band). Gravity was not my friend. Since the food was sliding back up (or down given the position I was in), my esophagus kept making more mucus thinking I was stuck. Awesome. The hygenist even said, wow, a little soupy in your mouth referring to the extra saliva from the incident - totally laughed at that. I finally stopped the cleaning, stood up, did a big no no and jumped up and down hoping gravity would make it all get past the stoma and into my stomach which worked. Of course, you have to imagine the most polite way to jump was to cross my arms over my chest to hold my boobs in place so it wouldn't totally be obscene or so I wouldn't hurt the tatas. Total comedy.
So my advice, eat way earlier than you dental cleaning to avoid looking like a schmuck jumping up and down in a dental office.

mountainnurse reacted to bbbanded in Curious...what Could You Eat Before Compared To After The Lapband?Great post, before surgery I could eat a healthy 12" from subway, I could probably fit another 6" if I wanted to but I've never tried.
Just a few days ago, I had my surgery 5 weeks ago and I've had one fill so far 3cc's, I made a turkey provolone open faced sandwich on toasted wheat. I ate one half and the other half was out of the question, not because I was stuck but I was just satisfied enough that I didnt want the rest. Normally I'd have to clean my plate or I'd be mad at myself, not this time! Pretty good deal I'd say.

mountainnurse reacted to PandorasBox92264 in Curious...what Could You Eat Before Compared To After The Lapband?Ok scratch the 1/2 tuna steak! Hubby just made a really nice marinated tuna steak that we split... two small bites of that which i chewed well..and have a lovely time with a PB and a slime episode. SIGH>>
First grilled tuna I had since the last fill, and looks like I will have to keep with another way to cook tuna maybe just tuna from a can and non fat mayo.
Guess we will keep to Salmon which I have been able to eat since the fill!
Hubby is very supportive..and feels bad.. and said.. Well.. we will stick to Salmon!! Can I make you anything else? Love him to pieces!
