  1. Tell your boss that you on a diet and thanks but no thanks. No one ever questions someones diet. They won't be insulted.
  2. It's a new week and I'm still waiting for some good news.
  3. It's pretty much the standard here in the Northeast. Every market carries Boarshead
  4. My surgery is scheduled for October 30 with Dr. Dan Davis at Stamford Hospital.
  5. I hate to say it but the best thing to do is use glucose tabs. I know that all diabetics hate them but they do prevent those horrible lows. No way would I get off the medicine without the doctor's say so. There are too many lasting effects of high blood sugar. I'd stay on the medicine and take 2 glucose tabs when you feel the lows coming on.
  6. Very cool! Great to see that you can still build significant muscle after WLS. Thanks for sharing.
  7. My advice is to research, research, research. Don't be afraid to attend all the information sessions in your area until you find a group you like. Don't dismiss any of the 3 major procedures. Read this board and the ones for the band and RNY. You many think you know what you want after the information session but you don't yet because you just don't have enough information. You need to realize that this is just one of many tools. You still need to overcome your mental issues with food. You need to learn how to eat right and to make exercise part of your daily routine. The more you can work on these things before your surgery the better off you will be. The last thing is that you have to decide that WLS is for you because it's not for everyone. There are millions of people able to lose weight and become healthy without it. This is only for those who have tried everything else and still can't maintain a healthy weight. Be honest with yourself. WLS is not the easy way out. It's takes the same commitment and dedication that every other weight loss program takes. Don't forget that.
  8. Great news! I'm sure it's nice to feel like you are getting somewhere after fighting so hard for it. Good luck with you surgery.
  9. Willpower. You have to really want to get healthy. If you are committed to a new you then you just do it. The better shape your liver is in the easier it will be for the surgeon. Giving up solid food for a couple of weeks isn't that bad compared to the risks of complications.
  10. Great job! Keep it up because it's obviously working
  11. That is so cool! I love stories like that. Keep running!
  12. Lots of great DVDs you can get on the cheap that can help. I've been doing Yoga for years and swear by it but if you want a little more cardio you can try Pilates as well. Start small with some beginner programs and then work your way up. The key is to do a program that isn't so hard that you will give up on it. Choose something that you can do 5 days a week and make it part of your routine to keep doing it.
  13. Protein shakes are my go to in that situation. You might as well get used to them since you'll be drinking them as meals soon enough. A protein shake as a snack is a good way to start the habit.
  14. That's the way to do it! You'll kick some butt and then it will be done and over with
  15. I've been jumping through hoops for 6 month now too. Unfortunately as someone with heart disease I also know that a stress test is the only way for them to rule out a heart irregularity. It's a pass/fail test. Just get on that treadmill and pass it and they'll leave you alone. 7 years ago I failed mine and went through a series of other tests that ultimately led to a surgery that saved my life. Good luck.
  16. I just finished the old waiting game, 6 month supervised diet, this morning. Now that's done everything is being submitted to the insurance company and we start the new waiting game which is the wait for approval. I'm hoping there won't be any issues. The surgeon says I should have no problem. The insurance coordinator checked everything before we started and we've checked off everything we need. It's always in the back of your mind though that this isn't settled until the insurance company sends you that acceptance letter. If everything works out I'm looking at an October 30th surgery date. Fingers crossed
  17. I like the sleeve better too but knowing some people who have done well years after having the bypass makes me comfortable with it. I always feel have the smallest surgery you can for the biggest effect which is how I ended up choosing the sleeve. However if for example insurance didn't cover the sleeve, I'd be okay with RNY. if anything with diabetes it does have some quicker positive effects than the sleeve. I don't have your migraine issues which is obviously a different situation. My point in all this is to say that worse comes to worse you still have options. What's most important is being able to lose the weight and you can still do that. Don't stress and get sick over this because it will work out.
  18. Why not get the bypass since you have that condition? At best aren't you going to have serious acid reflux issues? It's good that you have another option for surgery. My sister in law had RNY 3 years ago and a good friend had RNY now almost 6 years ago. Both have done great. If something came up and I wasn't able to get the sleeve I would have no problem switching to RNY instead. The band though I would avoid. Good luck in whatever you decide
  19. Mine ends tomorrow and then we submit to Oxford/UHC. I don't care what anyone says, 6 months is a long time. Can't wait until it's over.
  20. I know what you mean. Tough to eat that way when you have a mouth full of teeth. I have a feeling that hard boiled eggs will be on the menu a lot
  21. That's incredible. 85 pounds in 3 months is amazing. Great job
  22. Fitbit is the way to go. They're coming out with a cheaper version that I think is going to be $60. The full featured one is $100. I've been using it for the past 4 months and it's really worth it.
  23. Since your goal is to build muscle why not start with yoga instead of the elliptical? Yoga should be done on an empty stomach anyway. It will get your breathing in a good place and build muscle. Do that for a month and then take another shot at the elliptical.
  24. That's awesome! Now that you did your first you have a time to beat for your second. Congrats
  25. Good luck. All those things they currently are spending money on are reasons to be optimistic.
