Fantastic news! That's why I went through with this procedure. April 1 is my next appointment with my doctor. Hope to hear the same thing -
Doctors office keeps coming up with excuses to not schedule me
IsB replied to FatMamaw's topic in Insurance & Financing
If anything happens it's the doctor who is liable. They need to sign off on everything before the surgery. Remember they don't get paid unless they do the surgery so don't worry. It will happen sooner than you think. -
I've been doing daily exercise for many years. I absolutely feel that it made my recovery a lot easier than it was for many based on the stories I read on this site. I was back at work in a week without a problem. By 2 weeks out I was doing the same elliptical, weight training and yoga that I did pre-op only it was a lot easier. Even my doctor was impressed and he also agreed that all that pre-op exercise paid off.

Make sure you look up proper techniques before attempting squats or deadlifts. These are wonderful exercises but you can easily hurt your back if you do it wrong. Watch some youtube videos before you start.

Requests were sent. MFP is really the best way to track in my opinion.

I didn't even know that test existed. It's something I really want to look into. Thanks for the info.

Why did you Choose sleeve over RNY?
IsB replied to squishymom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I know 2 people who have been very successful with RNY. Originally that was the procedure that I was interested in. Once I serious and started my research it seemed to me that the sleeve would do all the same things, all be it a little slower than the RNY, without some of the side effects that both my friends went through. The biggest negative about the sleeve was a lack of long term data. It was 5 years vs. 15 for the RNY. That really didn't scare me and it didn't seem as big a deal as the malabsorption, dumping, gall bladder and other issues that the people I knew went through. However, if for some reason I had been unable to have the sleeve I would have done the RNY. Doing nothing is a lot riskier in my opinion. -
10 days post op and feeling weak and tired, is this normal?
IsB replied to lissa2270's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It can take a little while for your body to get used to the decrease in calories. Don't worry because your body will get used to it and then you will be able to exercise. No reason to push it though. It's not a race. When you feel up to it you will start your exercise program. -
You're on a diet like half the population seems to be. Tell them that if they ask and no one will question it.

I started eating salads 2 weeks out. I always eat the protein, tuna or grilled chicken, before I start the salad. You don't want to get full before you get your protein in.
-
Quinoa is great. I've had no problem with it but it still comes 3rd after protein and vegetables. For that reason I try to make small quantities.

My workout routine is 40 minutes on the elliptical 6 days a week Kettlebells for strength training 3 days a week Yoga for 30 minutes every day. When the weather cooperates I will use the elliptical less and mountain bike or road bike more. This winter has been tough though. I had my procedure 11/1 and don't want to invest in bike clothes that will be useless next winter. I've been doing a lot less biking and a lot more elliptical than in past years because of it.

Sounds great! Enjoy and come back with updates on how it's going.

I agree with TheGamer. The brand has a lot to do with the taste. Greek yogurt is a hot item. Everyone has jumped in because the want the sales but just because you can make yogurt doesn't mean you can make Greek yogurt. I also like the Fage, as well as the Chobani and Trader Joes house brand. I add some stevia to it which tastes a lot better than those artificial sweeteners. Since I'm post op I put in a little fresh fruit as well but I didn't do that pre-op.

im beginning to think sleeve surgery is a scam
IsB replied to kizzy's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
If you haven't lost anymore weight by the time you are 6 months out and you follow the program then you can call it a scam. You have to at least give it the 6 month try. -
Try grilled fish. You get some nice crust and flavor that you won't get in the oven. Cod won't work but many meaty dish will.
-
Saute on high heat. Add in a little orange zest and juice at the end. Whatever you do don't overcook them. You are looking for a nice sear without being cooked through. Enjoy

Stunning pics. You are the poster boy for the sleeve

Pre Op liquid diet! I did not do that..
IsB replied to UndercoverBariatricGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What's important is to follow the instructions that you are given. Different surgeons do things differently. When you commit to one you are also committing to that program. if you don't like the way they do things you should chose a different surgeon. My surgeon had me on a liquid diet post-op for 1 day. That's not the usual experience but that's what he believed and it worked for me. -
OMG Did I just screw everything up?
IsB replied to mysunflower621's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My cardiologist still has me on a low dose aspirin a day and my surgeon is okay with it. It's not ideal but sometimes you need to weight one ailment against another. Since you're worried you should give your doctor a call and listen to what they tell you. -
You have to be real careful when it comes to slider foods. Those are foods that turn to mush in your mouth before you swallow them. They are usually carbs like chips, cake, Cookies, ice cream etc....You are not going to get that full feeling from those foods, in other words restriction, and you'll be able to keep eating and eating. Lots of great advice on this thread. Keep a diary, My Fitness Pal is great for that. Go back to the diet plan your doctor or nutritionist gave you. Stick to it. By tracking your food you'll know if you're not sticking to your diet. If you need support there's plenty of it on this board.

Has anyone else "cheated" on the full liquid diet?
IsB replied to nck12nicholspd's topic in Food and Nutrition
I was only on full liquids for 1 day. My surgeon doesn't think it necessary. I had no problems eating soft foods by day 2 and then regular food on day 14.
