  1. I have not been sleeved yet but I've been on enough diets to know that rule 1 is to recognize when you screwed up. You did that. You realize the consequences and won't make the same mistake again. What's done is done but the way you are handling it is a very positive sign for the future. Stop beating yourself up and learn from this, which is sounds like you already have.
  2. Remember that they are not you. You know what you need to do for yourself. Don't let anyone else influence your choices. Make sure you take care of #1 because no one else is going to.
  3. Getting information never hurt anyone. Go to the information session and then see if it's right for you

    Too Skinny?

I know where you are coming from. I'm a short guy but I have a large frame and have always been big. I don't want to suddenly become short and tiny guy. Go to the Man Room forum. You'll see that there are many guys into weight training who don't just lose all their muscle after this surgery. They're not suddenly 150 pound, spandex wearing marathon runners. They still look like guys you can play Saturday morning flag football against. It put my mind at ease. Check it out.

    Relationship Help

That's a good reason why a councelor could really help both of you. Having a professional who knows how to get couples to communicate is a good thing. If you willing to talk about it on a board with strangers you should be willing to see someone who is trained to help in this area.
  6. You should post a review of both after you have a chance to try them. That would be very helpful to others with the same question.
  7. How did you get that? Was it a special offer?

    Some Insurance Confusion

Every insurance company is different. Even different plans in the same insurance company can be different since employers can decide not to include coverage for this surgery. It's very possible that there isn't a medically supervised diet requirement. My advice would be to go to a couple of different informational sessions for surgeons who accept your insurance and then once you find one you like explain the situation and ask how to proceed.
  9. Weight loss surgery isn't for everyone. If he's able to get down from a 40 + BMI to a 25 BMI through diet then he doesn't need this. Not everyone is able to do that though. I've been on Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers and many others over the years without those results. You have to do what works for you.

Patrick Rocks! His posts have been incredibly helpful. Can't wait to read about the next part of his journey to health
  11. Good luck big guy, or I should say, not much longer being a big guy. You're attitude has been inspiring. I look forward to seeing your views post-op

    Too Much Exercise!

My suggestion is adding Yoga to your exercise routine. As we age stretching becomes more and more important. 20 minutes of Yoga a day will make the pain go away. There are half a million DVDs out there for all levels. Get a beginner one and use it in the morning before breakfast. In just 1 week you will notice a huge difference. The pain melts away.

    3 Month Diet?

I have a 6 month diet. I'm doing it all at the same time. My surgeon has a nutritionist on staff who I meet with every month. It's just another thing on the list. Once everything is done they will submit the paperwork.
  15. gotaleed for anyone looking for a MFP friend. I love this app
  16. MFP is a great app. Easiest food tracker that I've seen. Just make sure you measure everything. Buy a food scale if you don't have one. It's only as accurate as the information you put into it.
  17. Who even knows if these people lost weight or are even interested in the sleeve. It's just a way to get a free ad. They could be anyone. Nothing stopping someone from making a profile and history look any way they want it to.

    Am I Going Crazy?

Waiting 6 months sounds similar to being pregnant. It's going to happen eventually and there is a lot to do before it happens but you still have wait for it to happen. No point obsessing over it. You're just going to have to go through the process and wait. For the record I'm in the same boat. I'm looking at November at the earliest.

    Please Read And Help!

When you go to the lawyer explain the entire situation. See if the lawyer thinks you should continue with this doctor for treatment or if makes more sense to see another. If you go to a lawyer who specializes in medical malpractice you should be able to get an expert opinion on how to pursue this. Good luck and don't get too down.

    Spicy Foods?

Glad to read the responses to this thread. One of the things that worries me most about this procedure is the possibility of not being able to eat the spices I love. I'm that guy who puts dried tien tsin peppers in eggs and diced cayenne peppers in my tuna. I'd hate to think that my future is going to be bland and boring food. This gives me hope. Thanks.
  21. That's what I want. The time and money for this test is really not something I am looking forward too. So far the surgeon's office hasn't pushed it but I have a 6 month medically supervised diet to get through so I'm sure they will add more things as time goes on.
