  1. Fiddleman- what is your resting heart rate? I also get dizzy if I get up fast. The other day when I was at the gym I started my heart rate monitor when I was still in my truck relaxing and I notices my heart rate was 50. I tried to relax and I got it down to 46. I think that may have something to do with me being dizzy.

  2. Hey midnight

I had the same fears as you. I'm 6 1 and weighed 408 the day of surgery. I have been fortunate that I have not lost a lot of muscle mass. I had my surgery on August 27th. I did the bod pod at my gym at the end of September and my lean muscle mass was around 200 pounds. When I did the retest in December my lean muscle mass was 213 pounds. I don't really think I gained that much muscle mass, probably just better hydrated that day. I know these tests are not 100 percent accurate but it is probably close. With that being said I don't think I lost any mass either. I was mostly just doing light cardio and light weights during that time. I am trying to get more serious about lifting and working out. I have been trying to get at least 100 grams of Protein per day. My current weight is 284. I'v been in a bit of a stall the last three weeks or so. Even though I have not lost a lot of muscle I still feel small at 284. I think my shoulders look smaller. Never thought I would worry about being too small! If you have any questions feel free to pm me. Good luck!

  3. Karissa I'm a firefighter also and last year I was taking the batteries out of the thermostat in the day room so they would stop turning up the heat! Now I have it too warm for the rest of the crew. Never thought that would happen. I think being cold is much better than being hot all the time though!

  4. I also struggled with the idea of surgery. I was in the non surgical program at Swedish hospital for over one year. When I started I told the PA I was working with that surgery was not an option for me. After being in the program for over one year and only losing 30 pounds and then gaining 15 back I decided surgery may be the best option for me. It was a very hard and emotional decision for me! Once I decided I wanted the surgery I could not get it fast enough. At first I thought I wanted the band but the PA I was working with suggested the sleeve. After talking to the Surgeon that is what I decided on. I made the decision sometime in May and had surgery on Aug. 27th. I have now lost 110 pounds. After having the surgery, like most people I wished I would have done it a lot sooner. With that being said I think I needed that year of trying without surgery. I also think that year has helped me be as successful as I have been so far. As you read more of this forum you will hear over and over how most people with they would have done this sooner. Good luck on what ever you decide to do!

  5. I was sleeved Aug. 27th of this year. I started walking and using the elliptical the first week after surgery and started to lift a few days a week . Sometime in the middle of Oct. I did the bod pod at my gym towards the end of Sept. because I wanted to keep track body fat percentage and muscle mass. I was really worried about losing muscle. Last week I did the bod pod again and lost a total of 43 pounds in 9 weeks(total of 95 pounds down since surgery). The cool thing was that I gained 13 pounds of lean body mass! According to the bod pod results I lost over 50 pound of fat. Although I have no plans to body build I still want to keep lean muscle.
