  1. Macroeconomics for WLS folks- should be a course in WLS 101 lol! Excellent post! I think a lot of us who have this surgery may not consider how much we use food as a crutch in our lives. This surgery is done on our stomachs not our brains. I'm still pre op and I honestly do fear this. Food has been my best friend for 23 years, and I know it's going to be hard to 'break up' with it. It's the longest and most toxic relationship I've ever had in my life and it's going to be hard to break. Food needs to be fuel not fun. It's something I've always had a problem with. But is the cost worth it? I think it's something we all need to ask ourselves. Thank you for this post!

The Cons Of Gastric Sleeve Life! :-(

I'm sooooo looking forward to being cold! I don't ever get cold. Even in the dead of winter with 2 feet of snow outside I'm still sweating sadly. It will be SO nice not to sweat all my makeup off before I even make it to my destination! I can't wait for that!

    Any Sleevers With Pcos?

Hi guys! I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS but I've been doing some research on it and I have a lot of the symptoms. I have a medical appointment on the 24th and Im gonna bring it up. The hair growth on your chin omfg I've had that for YEARS this finally makes sense as a cause. I've also usually had very regular periods but he last year since I gained like 40lbs they have been very out of wack. I've also gotten some mild cramping latley not related to my TOM so im concerned. The hear growth on my chin has also been way worse with the weight gain then ever. Like I said I'm going to get this looked at.

    Newbi

I know you said you were lactose intolerant but the Nectar line by Syntrax is protein powder your able to mix with water and they come in fruity flavors. I've heard of some people mixing them with Crystal Light or any type of low cal sugar free water flavoring and it tastes very good. Might be something to give a try- idk if they ship to the UK but you can try and see

How Many Ladies Here 250-300 Lost Over 120 Lbs?

I'm preop but I've seen lots of people here (and also on OH) lose over 100lbs with VSG. I get worried because my starting weight is quite a bit higher then a lot of the folks on here and have double that to loose so I hope and pray I can do it!

    Beware Ladies While Exercising!

Holy cow that's crazy! Glad your okay! I live in NYC so I'm unfortunately used to seeing all sorts of crazy things and have encountered my share of weirdos on the subway. There was a homeless guy who would ride my train line who liked to flash people. Sure enough I get on an empty train car and he gets on and it's flashing time! Luckily the conductor was right next to my car and he came out and called the cops. I also was on te train once around 5 am (crazy people always are out at this time lol) and in a semi full train I say across from a guy who was rubbing himself very noticeably though his jeans. I just got off and waited for the next train. There are so many crazy people out...Just glad you were okay. I agree maybe try a different route for a while just incase.

    Surgery Cancelled -July 16Th

Aw sorry you had to cancel, but your right going in for surgery while sick is not a good idea. And it's only a week later so not much of a big deal when you think about how long it takes us to actually get everything together pre op lol. Good luck and hope you feel better ASAP!

Pre Op Low Carb Diet- All Hail Cauliflower!

Sorry for the late reply- had a sleep study last night and lets just say not much sleep was had lol Slim here are recipies for some of the things I mentioned. I'm a measure by eye girl on most of the things i cook but I'll try to give an estimate. Remember all these things can be adapted, things can be added, substituted and portions can be changed. This is just a guesstimate Califlower rice 1 head of cauliflower Cut into chunks and pulse in the food processor until it has the look and feel of rice. Put in a bowl and microwave for 3-5 minutes (depending on microwave) And voila! chicken coconut curry over 'rice' Boneless skinless chicken breast 1 bell pepper 1 medium onion 1 zuccini Scallion 1 tsp curry powder 1tsp light brown sugar 1tsp cumin 1 can light coconut milk Cut the chicken into bite size pieces. Brown in a pan. Take them out and set aside and saute the onion, scallion and bell pepper (I diced them up into small pieces) when they are slightly translucent add in diced up zuccini. Cook until slightly tender, then add in the cumin and curry powder. Cook for a few minutes until the spices are fragrent then add in the coconut milk. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes or until the milk cooks down enough so it's not so soupy. Add in the tea spoon of brown sugar (optional, it adds a little sweatness to counter the spice of the curry and in a big pot its not much.) Add the browned chicken back in and serve over califlower rice. This was awesome! Fried 'rice' 1 cup of riced cauliflower 2 tsp of low sodium soy sauce 1 egg scallion I sprayed a skillet with a little PAM and added one scrambled egg. Chop it up in the skillet as I went, then added my 'rice'. Let cook for a minute, added soy sauce and let it 'fry'. Added in some chopped scallion before serving. Moc Mashed potato bake 2 cups for riced cauliflower 2 cloved of garlic a few tbs of FF sour cream (you could use greek yogurt I bet for more protein) chopped fresh parsley 1/2 cup for FF shredded mozerella cheese Put cauliflower, garlic, souce cream and parsley in a food processor and pulse until creamy. I mixed with most of the shredded cheese after I was done and put it in a baking dish and sprinkled a bit of the cheese that was left on top. Baked 350 for 10-15 minutes. Bean shrimp and garlic over zuccini 'pasta' 1 can of white Beans 8 shrimp (mine were jumbo) 2 cloves of garlic 2 zuccini Parsley Splash of chicken stock Cook the shrimp till translucent and then take out of pan. Sauteed the beans in a tsp of EVOO, added the garlic and parsley. Let the beans cook down until soft, added the chicken stock so it wasn't so dry. Add the shrimp back in and shut off. Slice the zuccini with a veg pealer, or mandolin (It takes some practice. Google 'zuccini noodles/pasta' and it should help.) Once sliced microwave for a few minutes until 'al dente' Serve the shrimp and bean mixture over the 'pasta' and done! The pizza crust recipie you can find all over online- google low carb pizza crust. It was just riced cauliflower, shredded cheese and Italian seasonings. I made one with a chicken, mushrooms and onions on top and the other I did something different and put slicked fresh mission figs and goat cheese with a drizzle of balsamic vinagar. Also really nice with some arugula on top!

Pre Op Pulmonary And Sleep Study

I just had the second sleep study done last night with the CPAP machine. The first night was not bad for me. Yes the wires are uncomfortable, theres a lot of them so be prepared for that. One of the most annoying parts is the bees wax they use to stick the controllers to your scalp. It's thick and annoyingt to get out (someone mentioned hot oil being helpful to get out of your hair, or I guess any kind of oil) You should call and ask about the fan, my center was pretty accomadating and allowed me to bring food and things to drink. They have cable TV usually so that's nice. A tip I HIGHLY recomend it make sure your dog tired when you go in. The first time I stayed up all night so I was exhausted when I went it. It went pretty well (about as well as something like this can go lol) The second test- last night- when I should have made sure I was even more tired because of the CPAP machine- I didn't have the luxary of staying up all night the night before and I had the hardest time ever sleeping, So just make sure your tired.
  16. LOL at this site censoring s n a t c h! I was trying to figure out what you could have possibly said for them to pleep it- I thought surley she isn't saying the F bomb that just makes no sense LOL too funny! Anyway back on topic, I've wanted to try the chicken flavor but I've heard such mixed reviews on it I'm not sure what to think. Good to know Ebay may be a good place to look for protein! Thanks!
  17. Sleep study part two tonight...ah wish me lucky hope I can sleep!

Question About Higher Bmi Vs Weightloss?

This is what I've gathered too. I'm still pre op, but I've gathered us folk with high BMI loose fast j the beginning and then its harder to get to our end goal. I'm pretty afraid of this happening since I have so much to loose. That I'll drop 100lbs right away, and the rest will not come off.

Pre Op Low Carb Diet- All Hail Cauliflower!

Thanks for the suggestion pookey! I used to eat turnips a lot growing up- we used to make them in place of potatoes since my step dad didn't like mashed potatos I had forgotten about them! I'll definitly be adding them to my low carb arsenal!

    Sleep Study Friday Ahh!

Just got a call and I have to go back tomorrow night for part two with the CPAP machine so looks like I have sleep apnea. Ugh I am dreading part two with that thing on my face. Guess I'm staying up all night again so I can actually sleep tomorrow night. And the bees wax ahhh- darn it not looking forward to more of that! :sigh:
  21. I have my sleep study scheduled for Friday and I'm freaking out a little bit. Does it suck as much as I've heard it does? I plan to not sleep much Thursday night- but I double scheduled myself that day so my NUT appointment is that morning so I have to get some sleep...but hopefully I'll be tired from running around that morning. I'm dreading it though! My best friend who is going through this process with me- we're both planning to have surgery- she actually has to have one too so they agreed we can come in the same night so I guess it's nice to have someone to go with, but doesn't mean I'm dreading it any less lol. Any sleep study war stories to share?

    Body Dysmorphia In Reverse

I had this issue a lot growing up. I never saw myself as big as I was, only when I would stand next to a normal size person, or compare clothes with them did I see differences. I think it hurt me in a way in my teens because I didn't see I had a problem most of the time so I didn't want to recognize it and work on it. Now I definitly see it, though sometimes I still see myself as 'normal'. I definitly understand.

    Walking Dead

I LOVE The Walking Dead! Can't wait for season 3 in October! And OMG Pookey that 5K looks AMAZING! I'm still pre op so there is no way I would be able to do it lol but if they do something like this next year I am SO there! That looks awesome! They do a zombie walk not far from me every year and I already planned to do it next year- this is just another thing to add to my list!
  24. This is coming from a pre op so maybe my views will change. Maybe it's just the fact that I've known/know many very large people but I feel to each is own. Even being obese, when I was younger I would see a very large person an automatically feel sorry for them. But over the years, meeting more people who are very large I've learned to not automatically assume the part of feeling sorry. Being a very large person, sympathy is not something I've ever wanted from thin folk. I don't think I would ever go up to another fat person and tell them about WLS. I'm sure they are aware of their options and I know being a fat person if someone ever came up to me and started talking about WLS I would have been mortified and a little angry. I guess we sometimes think that every big person is miserable and feels trapped but I've seen that not to be the case for everyone believe it or not, so I wouldn't assume it for them. Of course weight loss would make every big persons life easier but not everyone suffers from it as much as others. I personally am at the place where I AM suffering, and have gotten TOO fat where it's gotten in the way of my life so I've decided to change it. But not everyone feels the need to take it this far. I've known a few big people who are anti WLS and it's their body and their right to choose, same as it's mine to chose to have it. I guess I learned not to judge and just hope for happiness and good health (which I hope for myself too of course lol) Perhaps my view will change if and when I actually get skinny (hopefully lol) Just my two cents.
