    Pre_Op Clearance.. Yay!

Great news! Hope everything goes smoothly.
  2. My doc said I have to drink liquids only (non-clear liquids are allowed, thank God!). Can you drink protein shakes and Slim Fast? What else do people ingest after surgery?

What I Won't Miss About Being Fat...

I am totally with you! About two years ago we went to the amusement park where my parents live and I couldn't fit on my favorite roller coaster. I was so embarrassed. That is definitely going to be a non-scale victory for me when I start losing weight.
  4. Congrats on your surgery! I hope everything goes smoothly for you.
  5. I've been going back and forth about whether or not to tell people I'm getting weight loss surgery. I thought about posting it on Facebook, but I really don't want to give the impression that my body or my weight is a topic of discussion and if I post publicly about it, there's nothing from stopping people from treating it like that. On the other hand, it seems silly not to say something upfront but wait until I start dropping serious amounts of weight and my friends and family noticing I'm suddenly 50 lbs slimmer before saying, "Oh yeah, I had surgery." Thoughts?
  6. Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories! I posted about my surgery and got some positive comments. My sister's boyfriend also put me in contact with a friend of his who has had gastric bypass. So I've been talking to her about her experience. I feel kind of relieved that I got that off my chest. I've never been one for keeping secrets, so it's nice to know it's all out in the open.
  7. Thank you for all of your opinions and stories! I've decided to be upfront and announce it on Facebook. I hope everyone will be understanding and a few of my friends might be considering the surgery themselves, so I want to be supportive of them as well. If there's any negativity, I'm going to ignore, although the people who usually comment on my Facebook posts are my close friends who are always supportive, so I don't think that will happen. Thanks everyone!
  8. Thank you to everyone who has responded. You've given me a lot to think about.

Hello! Soon To Be Sleever Here.

Hey everyone! I just got back from my one-on-one consultation. It went really well. Dr. Clark is super nice and friendly. I asked all my questions and he answered all of them. Apparently, I can't keep the part of my stomach that they take out. Huh, who would have thought? I talked to one of the assistants and she tentatively penciled in my surgery for August 13, 2012. Now I just have to get my psych eval done with the doctor I've been seeing and I'm all set to go! I'm so excited! I can't wait to start living my new life!
  10. So far I've told my fiancé, his parents, my sister and my parents about wanting to get sleeved. I'm waiting until I get a surgery date before I tell anyone else. Everyone has been really supportive so far (my fiancé promised to take some time off of work to take care of me after the surgery), but my mom doesn't want me to get the sleeve. She says that she doesn't think it will help me to lose weight. Which doesn't make any sense. She also wants me to keep dieting, which I've been doing for years with no success. I've tried to give her all the info about the sleeve so she knows how it works and how it's going to help me, but it doesn't seem to click with her. Anyone else in a similar situation?

Hello! Soon To Be Sleever Here.

Will do! I'm so excited for tomorrow, I don't know what to do with myself, lol. What kind of work do you do for CNU? I have a few friends who went there. Great school. I go to ODU right now. Working on my masters in English. I hope to teach college-level English one day. Will update after my one-on-one meeting!
  12. I'm trying to get my mom to come to a WLS seminar with me at the center where I want to get my surgery, but we both work, so it's hard to get our schedules to line up. I went over all of the information I had for her and answered all of her questions, but she's still not on board. Then, she apparently talked to my aunt, who used to be a nurse, and she wasn't okay with WLS so now my mom is even more against it. I'm definitely going to get the surgery if I can, but it would be nice if my parents were supportive.

Hello! Soon To Be Sleever Here.

Nice to meet you! I currently live in Smithfield, but I work in Williamsburg and go to school in Norfolk, so I'm all over Hampton Roads, lol. What is going to be covered in your education class? My one-on-one meeting is tomorrow. I can't wait! I hope to be sleeved after my summer classes end and before Fall classes begin, so I have enough time to recover in between.

Any VSG people in Hampton Roads?

I'm in Smithfield. Looking to get my surgery with Dr. Clark in Newport News.
