Big Improvement On Protein Powders! Sf Hershey Syrup...
thehappycat replied to Strangefruit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Dude, I totally spaced when you said Hershey's and I bought Smucker's SF syrup. Smucker's has 23 grams of carbs for one serving and I can only have 45 grams of carbs per DAY. On the bright side, my fiance was eyeing the syrup, so I'll just let him eat it and find the Hershey's next time. -
So we're riding the hurricane out at the in-laws' house and it looks like I'm not going to be able to go to the gym tomorrow or Tuesday. I brought some workout DVDs with me, but I forgot the in-laws don't have a DVD player. Anyway, sometimes when I'm channel surfing early in the morning I see programming for things like zumba and other workouts. Are these actually workouts on TV or just infomercials for exercise tapes? Also, any good ideas on how to work out at home? I have no fitness equipment with me at all.

Big Improvement On Protein Powders! Sf Hershey Syrup...
thehappycat replied to Strangefruit's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
That sounds good. I'm going to keep my eyes open for SF syrup next time I'm at Food Lion. -
I'm not going to lie to you, attempting this more than once might kill me. But I will give it a try. I'm way out of shape, so I'm trying to build up my endurance and strength right now. Good news though, my fiance said he can put my DVDs on the Apple TV so I can still use them. I brought Slim in 6 and a bellydance DVD. So I'll have something to do during the day, lol.

Any Protein Bars Worth Trying?
thehappycat replied to thehappycat's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I ordered some Quest Bars and they are amazing! Going to try a few more types when I run out of these. Thanks, everyone! -
I wasn't told I need to differentiate between types of protein. Go for it!

I Really Hate It When The Media Calls Some Celebrities "fat"!
thehappycat replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Rants & Raves
I saw a story about Christina's 'massive weight gain' too and it pissed me off. A skinny celeb puts on 10 lbs and everyone is screaming that they're obese. Please! People wonder why so many young girls are dieting at younger and younger ages and no matter how skinny they get, they think they're fat. It's because of crap like this feeding their insecurities and poor body image. I recently saw Pitch Perfect and I was pleasantly surprised that they had some leading characters who weren't twigs. It's nice to see larger girls carrying a movie. -
Pregnant And 11 Wks Post Vsg
thehappycat replied to ebthompson2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! I asked my doc before surgery if I could have a normal pregnancy after VGS and he was very positive about it. Just work with your doctor and don't stress. Good luck with the pregnancy and the surgery! -
Whats The Worst Thing You've Eaten Post Op?

Doritos. >_< Old habits die hard. -
It's gas, don't worry, after my surgery my stomach gurgling was so loud it annoyed the dogs. It will pass in a few days. Don't forget to walk around. My doc says that will help.

Popcicles And Jello?
thehappycat replied to kmoore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ah, thanks. I'm a little slow, lol. Anyway, I was told that only actual liquids count towards your 64 oz per day. Have you checked with your doc? -
Ventral Hernia Repair With Sleeve Surgery?
thehappycat replied to cmartin15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same with me. I had a hernia and didn't even know. When I woke up in the recovery room a nurse was telling someone I had hernia repair and for a second I thought they gave me the wrong surgery! But the fixed hernia didn't make my recovery any more difficult. -

This Might Seem Like A Stupid Question, But...
thehappycat replied to thehappycat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, ended up not going bowling, but I was still 400 calories under. After finishing my Muscle Milk, I was done. Tomorrow planning on going on a walk with my mom, so tomorrow will probably be under too. Woot! -
This Might Seem Like A Stupid Question, But...
thehappycat posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This morning I went to the YMCA for my first low-impact aerobics class. I'm using My Fitness Pal to track my progress and according to MFP I burned 532 calories during the class. So now in addition to the 900 calories I need to eat every day, I need to eat 532 more. However, I've already eaten dinner and had a snack today and I'm 400 calories short. My Protein is at 103g, my carbs are at 45g. Should I eat 400 more calories or just call it a day? I ask this as we're planning on going bowling tonight and according to MFP you burn 191 calories per hour bowling and I want to play at least two games. So that would be even more calories it would tell me to eat and even if I get the additional 400 calories in, there's no way I can eat 800 more. -
What To Ask The Doctor?
thehappycat replied to Tamara Carter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My questions for my doctor were about pregnancy after VGS. Which is totally possible with no foreseeable complications. Probably even better since I won't be morbidly obese. I asked if I could keep the part of my stomach that they took out. Not entirely sure why. I was just curious. But I couldn't because it's considered biological waste. I asked about how many calories I will need per day. He said about 800-900. I asked if he did surgical staples or stitches. He said he does a combination to make sure that the stomach is completely shut. I asked if it was okay if I went to my in-law's house to recover right after surgery (about a 2 hour drive). He said that was fine. I also asked if I needed to, can I take a laxative as I've had constipation problems in the past. He said yes, over the counter Miralax is fine. I think that's about all. Be sure to write your questions down. I know I wouldn't have remembered them all if I didn't have them right in front of me. -
Wine/champagne When I Would Be Allow To Try?
thehappycat replied to scorpion509's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wondering this too. I'm not a big drinker at all. But of course, once you tell me I can't have something, that's all I can think about! Lol, I'm 2 months out now, but I think I'm going to wait for 4 months. Some of my friends said that they would take me out for a drink when I was cleared for alcohol. Although I am a little concerned. I used to be able to get drunk off one Cosmopolitan consumed with food. Now I think a thimble full would knock me out. I got my mother's alcohol tolerance, lol. -
It's hard to do, but it's so worth it. I used to eat every carb I came across and wash it down with Dr Pepper. The high Protein diet is a HUGE change for me and when I first started it, I slacked off a bit and during my last check up my doctor pointed out that I was losing lean body mass and not fat and my weight loss had slowed down. It was one of those epiphany moments where I told myself, I got this surgery to lose weight, I have to do the diet too and I went at it full force. I'm eating the high protein low carb diet now and not only do I feel good for sticking to my diet and making changes, I feel physically better too. Best advice I can give you; find foods you like that fit into your diet and experiment with cooking. Protein powder/shakes are essential. Also, before you put anything in your mouth, read the label. Innocent looking foods can be filled with carbs you never thought about. Also, don't be afraid to treat yourself every once in a while. Don't go crazy, but sometimes you just need some chocolate to remain sane.

Has anyone found a good article that explains why we all do high protein diets after being sleeved? My mother-in-law is curious and I wasn't 100% sure of the science behind it. Are there any good articles around that explain it well?

Hang in there! If you're doing everything your doctor recommended and you're losing weight, you should be fine. Don't over think it. Sending you good vibes.

No one mentioned hair loss to me at all before my surgery. Now it's bugging me. I haven't noticed any hair loss yet (I'm 2 months out). I'm eating my Protein and taking my multi-Vitamins. Is there still a chance I'll get it? I hope everyone can get their hair back. I know it would freak me out to lose that much hair so quickly.

Oh Yeah Protein Shakes
thehappycat replied to gettinMeBack's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
What kinds did you get? I started out with the Special K Protein shakes, but my doc pointed out how high in carbs and low in protein it was, so those were out. I had to go to GNC to find a good one. The ones I'm using now are Amplified whey Protein 60 and they have 40g protein with 5g carbs in 8oz. I drink one every morning.
